Guest guest
Breathing Difficulties and Allergies Although there are many causes of breathing problems, there are two that often get overlooked. Allergies and Structural imbalances. Under allergies everybody knows about Hay Fever, noxious fumes, and dust, but not many people relate breathing problems to diet, what we eat and drink. Leaving aside the medical reasons for lung damage, like trauma. smoking, industrial waste, and disease; what triggers the body's immune system to react to substances or situations? ALLERGIES, that's what. Allergic response by the body to :- · Dust, house or pollen. · Drinks; alcoholic, sugars, colouring, milk or artificial additives. · Food; what is in it, how was it grown or manufactured · Fertilised, genetically modified, or even organically grown foods can affect us. · Proximity of animals, animal hairs, especially domestic pets. · Smells; from cooking, perfume or mould. Therefore it becomes essential that we find out what is affecting our breathing or, on the basis that prevention is better than cure, what might affect us in the future, especially for children where it runs in the family. All of the above bullet points can be tested. How ? Allergy testing is the answer, this can be done medically with, blood sampling, skin testing or a Rast test. Naturopathically it is done using muscle testing, which is far less invasive and, in my opinion, just as reliable. The method used is called applied kinesiology and can be done by professional testers or by self help in the home. The other problem that can cause restricted breathing is a structural one where the spine and the ribs have been restricted in movement from a physical accident or fall. Either can affect the function of the spine and ribs effecting the breathing, the ribs being a physical restriction, preventing a full expansion of the rib cage and hence the lungs, the spinal restriction preventing a full nerve supply to the lungs causing reduced capacity. In either case you will need specialist care from an Osteopath or a Chiropractor. My name is Don Moody and I practiced as an Osteopath and Natural Therapist in Devon, now retired, for the last twenty four years. If I can be of any help please let me know.
