knee surgery for cartilage

Well, I had knee surgery for cartilage on Jan. 2 of this year. My

PCP said, Mild to moderate arthritis - but I knew it was more than

that and went to a Orthopedic surgeon. I had fallen on this knee 20

years ago, so I knew there was some old damage in there.

My pain was so severe that at time I thought I'd throw up. I was

concerned that if I let it go any further that the damage would

become worse.

I have photos from the surgery (they are pretty cool) and there was a

loose/broken off piece of cartilage that was causing the problem.

That never would have gotten better -- supplements would not have

kept that from floating and getting in the way and causing

excrutiating pain.

So, how am I doing a full month after surgery? GREAT! I started

physical therapy about two weeks after surgery and after the first

appointment my range of motion improved 65%. After two weeks of

physical therapy I can almost straighten my knee for the first time

in 4 months -- I'm walking normally now and after 2 more weeks of PT,

I suspect I'll be back to my pre-injury self.

In the mean time, I am taking supplements now for cartilage -- but

I'm very glad I had surgery -- that intense pain is now gone, and I'm

97% normal now.

I'll have to have this surgery soon. I dislocated my knee and tore the

cartilage. There's a small piece of it that is floating. If it flips and locks

my knee, I'll have to have emergency surgery. The doctors wanted me to have a

hernia repaired before I had the knee surgery. So, I'm recovering from that

now. In a few months, I'll have the knee surgery. One of the main things that

the doctors worry about is my diminished capacity to feel pain. I was struck by

lightning when I was 17. I have all but one symptom of post-electrocution

syndrome. (I don't have seizures.) I learned much from the lightning and from

the post-electrocution syndrome. I've tried my home remedies, herbs,

homeopathy, aromatherapy and more for my knee and everything else.

Unfortunately, very little seems to help. Any suggestions?

you

have if you don't mind?? I had some mild pain and the natural product we take

addressed it for me. But I also have a good friend who had shoulder and knee

pain (pretty bad) also seeing a chiropractor and has been taking a product

that's really helping. let us know please

A Chinese herb called Fo-Ti is excellent for the knees. It also heals the

knees as well as helps with pain. Fo-Ti keeps hair from graying and is a

rejuvenative remedy also.

I am not presently taking any medications. I do take vitamins and minerals. I

have prescriptions for an anti-inflammatory that I use only when necessary. I

don't feel pain, so pain medications are not beneficial.

When I had surgery to repair a hernia, I did not need any pain

medications because the surgery site only burned a little. It wasn't

even enough to be uncomfortable, just enough to draw attention to

it. The same was true when I dislocated my knee. I felt the bones

move, but it didn't hurt. It's weird because I remember what pain is

supposed to feel like, so I know when something should be painful.

Several of my doctors have told me that it is related to the

lightning, and have told me that soon even the burning sensation will

disappear. According to them, I will no longer be able to feel pain

at all in a year or so. There have been many other changes that are

also associated with being electrocuted.

Here is a link to an excellent article on the topic.
