Citizens Flood Congressional Offices With Calls, Emails Against War Funding

 

 

(Washington, D.C.) - From around the country, the calls and e-mails are pouring

into Congressional offices urging representatives to vote against providing an

additional $81 billion for war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Progressive Democrats

of America (PDA) is one organization that has been encouraging this effort on

its website, www.pdamerica.org.

 

 

" We are beginning to give voice to the majority of Americans, who do not support

this war, " said Tim Carpenter, Executive Director of PDA. " We hope that sooner,

rather than later, we will pull Congress's position into line with of that of

the American people. Silence on this issue is interpreted by the President as

consent; not speaking out would show disrespect to our grassroots. "

 

 

Polls by AP/Ipsos, CNN/USA Today/Gallup, Pew Research Center, Harris, and NBC

News/Wall Street Journal show a majority of Americans believe the war was a

mistake and that the U.S. should leave Iraq this year. See:

PDA is encouraging Congress members to vote against additional funding, and to

vote for Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey's (D-CA) Resolution to End the US Occupation

of Iraq (H.Con.Res.35). The House vote on appropriations is expected Tuesday,

and a similar vote is expected in the Senate next month. PDA members plan to

pressure their Senators to take a stand at that time.
