Dear Council and Community Members,

Time is running out! You only have 3 days left to respond to the

changes

proposed by the Social Security Administration. SSA will go ahead and

make

these changes if we do not speak up, NOW!!!! To date they have only

posted

17 comments. This will not make them change their revisions. The

hepatitis C

community (and that includes you) must speak up and let SSA know that

the

proposed revisions are not satisfactory. THE ONLY WAY IT WILL CHANGE

IS IF

THEY ARE PRESSURED BY THE COMMUNITY TO DO SO. The proposed revisions

are

potentially devastating and would leave only those whose death is

immediately imminent eligible for assistance from SSA.

Please, take 2 minutes out of your day, and add your voice to this

issue -

it's fast and simple.

If you want to make a difference for people living with this disease,

start

clicking! You can do this very easily in several ways.

1. Post a comment with your own perspective

2. Post a comment that you agree with the Caring Ambassadors Programs

response

3. Cut and paste the paragraph below and POST IT TODAY!

Regarding the proposed revision of the medical evaluation criteria for

chronic liver disease, I believe the proposed revisions are too

narrow and

exclude some of the most common manifestations of disability caused by

chronic liver disease. I have read the comments and suggestions

submitted by

the Hepatitis C Caring Ambassadors Program, and agree with the

content of

the comments. Specifically, I believe that:

chronic hepatitis C needs to be directly addressed in the medical

evaluation

criteria

evaluation criteria must not be based solely on histologic findings

on liver

biopsy, but reflect functional and metabolic factors as well

the medical evaluation criteria must be expanded to more accurately

reflect

the pathophysiology of chronic liver disease

uninsured and underinsured applicants who are eligible for curative-

intent

therapy should be provided an option for treatment to attempt to

prevent

life-long disability

I urge SSA to make additional revisions to the proposed medical

evaluation

criteria for chronic liver disease according to the recommendations

and

suggestions noted above.

Sincerely,

XXX

Finally, forward this message to colleagues, friends, family members -

anyone who cares about making a difference in the lives of people with

chronic hepatitis C. Encourage them to also forward the message to

others

who may also be willing to take action. This truly is a crucial issue

for

those living with chronic hepatitis C.

Again, please take action on this issue immediately.

Happy New Year to All,
