Guest guest
I was wondering about which are the best vitamins to take....... it's so confusing.... There is so much out there....... sooooooo many different kinds/brands. Manmade vs natural etc... and it's so expensive to buy them individually, not to mention time consuming to sit down and do all the research on which ones do I need and how much, etc..... I was wondering if anyone really knows which are the best/healthiest/and worht the cost, etc.... I am a fairly healthy 47 yr old, going through Menopause and on HRT, which I'd like to get off of as they're causing swollen tender breasts and spotting and light bleeding every other week..... even though the severe hotflashes and depression are gone... I've tried the maximum strength Estrovan... didn't work...... I drink soy milk and was taking a multi vitamin mineral supplement (till I ran out), along with along with viactiv calcium and osteo joint triple strength. I really don't like taking a whole bunch of different pills and supplements, as they upset my stomache easily and don't leave much room for meals..... Guest guest
Hi Kari, my name is Jacky and I'm 39. I use " Doctors Total Nutrition " supplement myself . It's all natural and has really worked wonders for me. I believe it can be purchased on-line . I get mine from a health food store. You've got to be careful when choosing a vitamin supplement because most vitamins are synthetic. That means the vitamins are formed in a laboratory, they're counterfeit versions which duplicate structural components that nature has already created. Most people don't know that they are processed at very high temperatures, contain petroleum derived chemical solvents (like ethyl cellulose) and they are coated with methylene chloride which is a carcinogenic. Now don't panic because most people don't have any obvious side effects from ingesting small amounts of toxins found in these vitamins but long term consequences of continuous, daily intake is potentially dangerous. For years, we've been told if we eat a well balanced diet, we can get all the vitamins and minerals we need and that is simply not true. There is data that proves if you took a few supplements everyday, you can significantly lower your risk of a multitude of diseases so NATURAL vitamins are specific compounds essential to our physical well being as well as mental health. Keep in mind that any vitamin that lists " acetate " is a synthetic vitamin. The FDA allows companys to claim they are natural if only 5% actually is so read the labels. If you are going to go natural, remember to always store them in the refrigerator, because they will spoil and don't buy more then a one month supply at a time. I believe that what ever you choose should include all of the following,Vitamin A, vitamin C, (not ascorbic acid, tha't NOT vitamin C)) B12, folic acid, vitamin D, vitamin D, B1 (thiamin) B5 (pantothenic acid) B6 (pyridoxine). Now you should also know that a liquid vitamin is more easily absorbed and digested. I personally can't get past the taste and have never tried one brand that I actually liked. But, that's just me. To get the most out of a tablet or capsule, the vitamin should always be taken with food because it helps the body to absorb the vitamins and minerals more efficiently. Fat-soluble vitamins like Vitamins A,D and E require some dietary fat to be properly absorbed. Overall, there is no comparison between natural and synthetic vitamins and if you're serious about your health, all natural is the way to go. They will cost more but the benefits are substanial enough to justify the expense. Most of us already ingested so much garbage daily without really thinking about it so to follow all that up with a inferior vitamin is just plain silly. I mean, when you look at the ingredients of a particular food, do you know what all the ingredients are? Well, if you're a chemist, you do, but most of us don't. If these labels we're put in layman's terms, we'd really think twice before ingesting them. That being said, I'm going to have a twinkie.LOL. Guest guest
Hi Kari, Everything Jacky has said here makes sense to me. I just wanted to suggest that you look into an excellent well-rounded powder supplement, made by " Metagenics " . I use their " Ultra InflamX " in the Tropical Mango Flavor. One scoop in a full glass of chilled water in the morning, stir well, drink down, after a bananna just to give it something to settle on in the stomach. It absorbs easily, and I have had no stomach upset or added fullness with this supplement. In the evening, I use a liquid form, " Blue Bonnet " from the Health Food Store, of Calcium, Vitamin D and Magnesium, in a glass of low-fat goat's milk. I find " soy " is not the wonder food it's cracked up to be and cow's milk is just out of the question. It is true that our food supplies and the soil in which they grow, have been depleted and we do need to supplement more than ever. Finding the right combination is very confusing but I would agree that steering clear of synthetics is a wise choice. The extra cost, the way I compute it, is actually a savings in health care expenses. I order my Ultra InflamX powder from Natural Health Technologies, based in Fircrest, WA (www.naturalhealthtechnologies.com)-they usually keep a limited supply on hand, and they may only offer these to those who are established patients, (I was before we moved to NM).. but I think you can also google Metagenics and get more information directly from the manufacturer. I like this supplement because it is natural, balanced and includes the all important B-complex and trace minerals. The cost of the supplement and to have it shipped to NM from WA, costs me about $72.00. One jug will last me about five weeks. I have been using it for about a year now and I have definately noticed more energy, less prone to colds/infections, more stable moods, (I am nearing menopause), and overall just feel better. Hope this helps, Best wishes, Powitree NM Jacqueline <gottabjv wrote: Hi Kari, my name is Jacky and I'm 39. I use " Doctors Total Nutrition " supplement myself . I sincerely believe that concentrated foods are a far superior way of getting your nutrients. There are many good green drinks and greens in capsule form on the market. The trouble with vitamins/minerals etc is that they keep finding new ones. When you get whole food-based supplements you get the goodies that have been discovered so far plus the ones that will be discovered tomorrow, in a balanced form that your body can recognize as food. Always keep in mind that different products work for different people. Here is a way to think about isolates versus whole food-based supplements: It is a bit like chemical fertilizer versus compost. In the short run you can grow crops with artificial fertilizers. But in the long run nothing nourishes the soil like compost or well rotted manure. Guest guest
Food-based vitamins and minerals are the best because your body recognizes them. Take minerals: ground up minerals are still just rocks and only plants can eat rocks efficiently. Finding food-based multivitamins that also use food based minerals is actually very difficult because the technology is difficult and exclusive to a very small number of companies. Incidentally, the last vitamin or mineral to be identified was in 1935. Recent discoveries are in the area of antioxidants and other types of nutrients. These all fall into a broad category of " phyto chemical " which just means plant chemical. Many of these act as cofactors and catalysts in enzymic reactions in the body. You don't need to know what they are: you just need them. For example, in the 1937 Nobel Prize in Medicine for the proven link between the disease Scurvy and Vitamin C, it also states that Flavones (at the time called Vitamin P) are required in this biological process that makes Vitamin C do it's thing. Therefore, the vitamin C you buy in the store, which is usually not vitamin C but a molecular isomer called Ascorbic Acid, and is missing the vital cofactor necessary to be usable in the body. I have roots in tincture, some in Wodka, some in ACV for a change. Guest guest
The root is always better to use but either will do. They both contain the same vitimins and minerals. I dried my dandelion greens for winter use. Susan Access over 1 million songs - Music Unlimited.
