Dehydration is often a major cause of back pain. Rule of thumb I follow is a quart of water per 50 pounds body weight plus a quart every day, and if you're sick or in pain, make that plus 2. I do not know why it is particular to females and not males, but something to do with chicken can cause chronic low back pain in women - even organic chicken. Guest guest
Hi Menma, There is hardly a nurse that I know that didn't hurt her back in the early years of working with patients. Yoga can help. Gentle yoga and was taught at the IYI and other places until you strengthen your muscles in this area. Find a good acupuncturist. Acupressure or Twi Na massage can help. Hanna Kroeger recommended St. John's Wart Oil to regenerate the discs. See if they have it or know where to get it at http://www.kroegerherb.com/ or http://www.southernherb.com/ . Or find a good Chinese Chi Kung master to work on you. There are several in the USA and elsewhere. Keep your weight down. No stress. Use fiber daily to keep the intestinal tract open or it will stress the middle back. Don't do any lifting without a belt for support. Guest guest
TKS- Lifting weight might have caused disc prolapse and u may have escaped major complication this time but if u continue doing that then u will have to stop it one day for how long only the amount of disc damage will decide. Consult an orthopaedic-surgeon of your area.In the mean time Tab Paracetamol 500 mg twice or thrice daily along with cholzoxazones 250 mg (they come in ombination will help to relieve your muscle spasm and pain, but continuing excercises will zeopardise any benefit gained. rajibnain <rajibnain wrote: --- In , " ash_shkh " wrote: > > Hi I am new to this group and its nice to know that people are getting > the solutions to their prob from all over the world. > > I would like to know, How to keep my back healthy? Guest guest
Hello Memna, You are so young to have this problem, so I suspect your goal is to find the best way to manage your condition and prevent further problems. Do know that I have seen young clients who have fared well with back surgery, but unless it's an emergency, I would suggest trying less invasive things first. First I would want to know how well your neuromuscular therapist was trained, as there are many people who call themselves that, but are less than optimally trained. Paul St. John and Judith Delany are the most advanced trainers, and Ralph Stephens and Doug Nelson have some good work too. They were all trained by Paul St. John who got his work from Dr. Nimmo, DC. If your arthritis and degeneration are moderate, I would have expected your treatment to be more effective unless something is pressing on a nerve. Has your NMT done a postural evaluation? There may be clues in areas other than your low back. As I am a massage therapist, I look to that first for a solution to your problem, but others may actually have a key that helps you find the answer. There are other somatic techniques that may be useful. Craniosacral therapy may optimize the cransiosacral pump and free anything along your central nervous system that needs freeing. Feldenkrais is a movement therapy that can teach you how to use your body in ways that minimize or eliminate the pain and dysfunction. Myofascial release or structural integration can release the fascia that may be holding your body in a pattern that emphasizes the pain. An osteopath who still does structural alignment may be able to help you, as could a good chiropractor. Some people have even found energy work surprisingly effective -- Shiatsu (also physical), polarity, Reiki, prayer, meditation, etc. If your diet is overly acid it will stimulate your pain receptors. Look for a good balance between acid and alkaline with lots of leafy green vegetables. If you are over weight, find a way to bring your weight to normal to reduce the stress on your back. If your posture isn't optimal, get a coach and bring yourself into alignment to make optimal use of your skeleton. Your skeleton should hold you up, not your muscles. Muscles should be used to keep your balance and for movement, but they should not be holding you up. Even the right shoes with proper arch support can help align your whole body and can be especially effective in low back pain. If your body is in alignment, there is nothing better than regular walking to get those muscles working efficiently together. Leave the bags at home so your arms can swing freely and naturally as your walk. I hope there is something here that you can find helpful. Guest guest
Hi Im new to this group too. I have had back pain on and off for over twenty plus years i had spinal fusion for scoliosis when i was in my teens. I have been having probs on and off since. I have had pain in lumbar area with pain going down my leg. I had an epidural steroid injection earlier this year which has helped. Prior to that i did a stint of hydrotherapy, also acupunture. I recently bought a pair of MBT shoes which are great. I also do pilates which helps. - Kat Miller Sunday, November 11, 2007 6:15 PM Re: Back pain > Menma wrote: > > Hi all...I am new to the group and looking for methods > to treat my now chronic back pain and leg pain. Guest guest
I'm so sorry about your pain! I, too, am a " retired " nurse with an HNP in the lumbar spine. I am faithfully on the Mackenzie program and this keeps me much more comfortable than I was before I found it. Not every practitioner is good at this technique; try to find someone who is certified in it. Also, have you tried raindrop technique? Ask the person who sold you your essential oils to help you find someone to do this on you. Raindrop helped me but it has to be done more than once for a good result. And I use essential oils daily for all my ailments and to maintain wellness. Good luck to you! Guest guest
Hi Toni, Yes, my goal is two-fold, deal with the condition as it is now and prevent any worsening. Surgery would be my last resort. According to the MRI there is not nerve compression, but my symptoms have progressed since then, so it is possible. My Neuromuscular therapist is trained in the St. John method, although I am not sure who trained him persay. He has done structural analysis which showed mild scoliosis and a 11mm leg length discrepancy confirmed by X-ray, probably making me more susceptible to the injury in the first place. So now I have a lift in my shoe and have changed shoes several times. As far as some of the other methods you mentioned...I have dabbled in quite a few but not really found much success in. So far what has been the most helpful has been the yoga and the neuromuscular therapy. Unfortunately nothing really has been all that effective in treating the burning in my legs, which tells me that the root issue is not being addressed. I do however need to lose some weight, which actually has been happening on its own because often I lack the energy to eat when I get home from work. I could stand to improve my diet and actually the neuromuscular therapist recommended that as well...big undertaking however. Thank you for your thoughts:) Menma ______________________________\ ____ Be a better sports nut! Let your teams follow you with Mobile. Guest guest
Jude, What is the Mackenzie program? I have heard the name but am unfamiliar with it. I have not tired the raindrop technique as of yet. How often does it need to be done for beneficial results? I have a friend that does it but she doesn't live nearby. naturalhealthgirl2 <wellness Tuesday, November 13, 2007 4:47:25 PM Re: Back pain I'm so sorry about your pain! Guest guest
Hmm...I probably don't drink enough water then. I bet alot of nurses don't for that matter. I will try to improve on that one. As far as chicken goes. I do on occassion eat it but not often. I am not a big meat person. Guest guest
rajib is suggesting a homeopathic oral preparation, which you should be able to find at your local health food store or from your homeopathic doctor. Arnica topically applied can also be very effective in bringing down inflammation. That you can find also at your health food store or massage supply store. Guest guest
Ashfaq First, you MUST rest!!!! Stay off of your feet for about 3 or 4 days, rest, rest, rest. Take a mild anti inflammatory, and use heat and cold alternately on your back. Marsha and the Yorkies http://www.miracleyorkies.com
Guest guest
It is desirable to keep the stomach free of gas. Accumulated gas, do compress spine when bending. This is only a tip & not cure. ================================= Miracle Yorkies wrote: > Ashfaq > First, you MUST rest!!!! Stay off of your feet for about 3 or 4 days, rest, rest, rest. Guest guest
If i had this happen to me I would seek out a chiropractor who is certified in Mackenzie therapy. I have been helped immensely by this program. Also, essential oils may be able to help with comfort and recovery. Make sure you get the therapeutic kind. Young Living is one brand which is therapeutic. Good luck! Guest guest
He needs to find a new doctor, I went to the county hospital one on crutches, stopped in the hall crying like a baby, a nurse found me got a wheel chair and took me into the emergency room, the doctor came in and said what can I do for you, I told him I needed pain medication for my back, he told me sorry we don't give pain medication for back pain and sent me home, if someone had handed me a gun, I would have blew my head off to get out of pain. I found a doctor to operate on me, but he wouldn't give me pain medication, so I found an Osteopath to prescribe Loritab 750 MG by complete bottle, a muscle re laxer, and an anti inflammatory, I took 2 loritab every three hours around the clock, for over a month until I found a good doctor to operate, then I was so constipated from the pain pills, it was supposed to be one 750 every four hours, I has to take 2 750s every three hours to live. You must find a doctor that will perscribe good pain RX , muscle relaxer, and anti inflammatory, that you can take, when you know that you messed up, then take them for about a week, then you can stay fairly well, without too much pain, until it backs off. Find a Doctor that has back problems, he will give pain meds. Good Luck Richard In a message dated 5/14/2009 3:37:39 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, luellamay129 writes: You know what? I agree with you. Guest guest
I'm a distributor for a range of magnetic products that have be shown to be very effective in relieving back pain. While I don't want to be seen to be plugging a product, I believe that could probably get a lot of benefit from this type of unit - particularly one with a fairly strong magnetic power.
