Butch - as always you make us see things in a different light ;-)

For me personaly, the is no phobia at all involved, although I know

that many of my friends suffering from the same illness, have had

quite a few bouts of them. I have gone through this whole experience

funtioning normaly (or as close as I can possibly get - hehe) - that

is, I have had no problems with going into stores, public transports

and such. I think I have Fiona to thank for that too (amazingly good

thereapy dogs are), cause I never had the oportunity to stay indoors

all day long ;-) I know many who have done that and in my oppinion it

only makes things worse.

When it comes to pills and stuff, I do belive in behavioral therapy -

both in group and one-on-one. Jeezz, I'm not a very much group person

and had my serious doubts on what good could ever come out of sitting

with 8 middle aged burned out women??? But let me tell you, it was

great! I think I almost growed up during that period. But, I had

fought of my doctora suggestions on using the new kind of

antidepressants for almost 2 years, cause I wasn't depressed at all!

But, after realizing what these dang attacks realy was and reconizing

how much strength they pulled out of me, I submitted and tried them

and - they worked very well for me. So well, that I have a strong

belief that I have been missing this substance in my brain for most

of my adult life and even though I'm still not well enough to start

working yet, I'm a much more harmonious today than ever before.

But - even if the pills are working fine, I did make up a small

bottle of smelling salts with rose otto, rose bourbon, sandalwood,

clary sage and some clementine. Smells awfully good, gonna be

intersting how it works out in the middle of the night ;-)

.. Reading seed catalogues causes almost the same adiction as EOs

does, so now I'm gonna order a whole lot of seeds from Thomson &

Morgan and Mr Fothregills :-D

Dear Bonnie,

I lost a son under bad circumstances and the anniversary of his death

has been a hard thing every year. Seems the events start rolling in my

head like a bad movie that I can't turn off...

I just know one thing that with years, I still anticipate that day with

high anxiety, but it's almost a relief when the day passes.

One just grits their teeth and gets through it, somehow..

Doing something in his memory that day and surrounding yourself with

good friends might be helpful.

The native American's in my area have a wonderful ceremony every year

during the first week in October.

They have something that is called ghost suppers. No invitation goes

out, just dates for people to know where the ghost supper is being held.

It's to 'invite' the person that departed for supper, meals are served

family style and one setting is kept 'empty' for the 'ghost' to sit.

Favorite meals of the departed are cooked, one talks about them, so th

echildren will remember them , a fire is lit outside and a little bit of

food from every dish is put into the fire , so the smoke reaches above.

It's a big thing around here, I hosted several of those meals and it as

helped.

Bonnie,

I'm deeply sorry for your loss. I'm sure there's someone here that can help you

with the spray (because calming lavender is all that comes to mind at the

moment). I wanted to mention that you might try getting massage or taking

meditation classes. I have been a massage therapist for over 8 years & worked

w/clients that suffer from a variety of physical & emotional ailments, including

panic attacks. It's important that you find a therapist that is truly loving,

compassionate & has the best of intentions. Feel free to " interview " them

before deciding to get a massage. I have had people evaluate me prior to

choosing me as their therapist, so it's not uncommon. You must feel safe &

secure so that you can fully relax & focus on your issues. It's also important

that you learn how to breathe... deep breathing can help you center & find peace

of mind. Focusing on breathing can do wonders to take your mind off of

stressful thoughts.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Bright Blessings,

Hi Bonnie

I'm sorry for your loss. It must be really hard. If you were closer I'd make you

a blend of Rose and Frankincense. If you wanted a spray you could use the

hydrolats of each combined. I think it's perfect for grieving - Rose is very

much about the heart and love, Frankincense is about the connection between you.

panic attacks

Greetings Friends,

It has been some time since I have written and I need your help. I am coming

up on the year passing of my beloved Bill and I am starting to have panic

attacks. I have been having nightmares of him being sick, how very ill he was,

and taking care of him and they are becoming more frequent as I approach his

passing date of Nov 9. I am already under my Doctors care for post traumatic

stress disorder from all that transpired during his illness and after his

passing. I take Xanax but I was wondering if anyone could recommend something I

could make up in a spray so when I feel the panic attack coming on I can just

spray myself in the face as they seem to start from the top of my head and work

their way down. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This journey has been

very rough.

Hi Bonnie,

I certainly can't top all the great ideas you've gotten from the folks

here, but I wanted to tell you that my thoughts and prayers are with you

during this hard time emotionally! Its never easy to lose people we

love, but take comfort in knowing that although he went through those

devastating physical hardships, having you there showed true love to him

during the darkest times, a beautiful gift that not everyone

experiences. Although he's not physically here any longer, never doubt

that he is always with you, in your heart and soul!

Dear Bonnie ... yes, it's time to look after yourself. You may find flower

essences to be helpful ... they are so gentle for emotional healing. They

can be taken internally or added to any spray mist you may choose to make

from the many suggestions you have been sent. I would suggest lavender and

peony to begin the process.

I want to second that.

Let me tell you a personal experience. One year ago this week one of the

greatest women I have ever met in my life passed away. She knew she was going

home. Told my mom so a few days before she left.

I drove in a fog from Brooklyn NY to Aurora IL by myself for her funeral. I

would have driven across the country to be there. She deserved to have me

acknowledge her passing but even more so I needed to go and accompany her to her

final resting place.

As soon as I heard she'd passed I cried out I didn't get to say good-bye. Just

as sure as she was standing there I heard her say to me 'You said it was okay to

go home. So I went. It's beautiful here. " It was true I'd said my goodbyes in

a way because I knew she was lingering comatose from a massive stroke and I

didn't want her to suffer. Now, Shirley Davies is a woman who doesn't mince

words. Says what's on her mind and expects you to feel free to do the same with

her.

As I drove away to head back home I was driving down the highway, crying,

thinking of her and never seeing her again and wondering if I ever would. As

sure as I saw the road ahead of me I also saw the wild prairie that I knew was

her home when she and her previously departed husband were raising children in

the Bitteroot Valley in Montana. As clearly as I saw and felt autumn I also

felt and saw the warmth of a prairie summer and wildflowers and felt butterflies

flitting by. It was so real.

I knew she was with me. I knew she was sharing with me what her heaven is like.

They never leave us. Even when we're sobbing and hurting and even angry at

their homegoing...they are still holding us.

Bonnie:

You might want to try a Homepathic by the name of Bach's Rescue

Remedy. It comes in a spray or liquid tincture. Helps a great deal

with panic. You can get it at almost any good health food store.

Good luck.

Bonnie,

So sorry to hear about your loss and grief. I don't think the old

saying " time will heal " is really working, I jsut think the ache and

pain maybee lessens in strength over the years, but it will never go

completely away.

When it comes to panick attacks, I'm a master LOLOL... Well, have them

on and off, specially in times of stress. Mine almost never occurs in

daytime, but when about to fall asleep, in the middle of the night or

the in wee morning hours. I have been to therapy, even cbt and it have

helped some, but still the attacks just comes either I want them to or

not. So I made myself some smelling salt, inspired by this group, a

lot of months ago. First I made one with roses and in a EO type of

bottle poured 8ml fine seasalt, Rose Bourbon EO 2dr, Rose Otto 4dr,

Lavender 12dr, Clary Sage 2dr, Sandalwood 6dr and clementine 12dr.

Even if it smells just fine and dandy, it didn't do anything for MY

attaks. So I tried another blend; fine seasalt 8ml, neroli eo 11dr,

clary sage 4dr, vetiver 2dr and lavender 8dr. And what-da-ya-know -

sniffing that bottle on the onslought of an attack plus visualising

pure color energy entering my head chakras and running thorugh my

body, have helped me through many, many evenings and nights. I have

even fallen asleep, with the bottle on the pillow, under my nose.

Hope this helped you in a small way :-)

Hi Herb,

You've got a great name for this group, by the way! :)

Anyway, I would recommend that you search the group archives (on the

web page for the group). There have been many discussions about

this in the past.

I also had panic/anxiety attacks for many, many years.

Kava Kava and St. John's wort really helped.

However, it's more difficult to find the Kava these

days, altho you can still get it in a tincture.

Sometimes these attacks can mean depleted

neurotransmitters in the brain, as well as high

stress. This can indicate a need for amino acids and

other stress relieving things. What has helped me the

most is GABA, L-Tyrozine, L-Glutamine (a precursor to

GABA), L-Lysine and L-Taurine. I always muscle test

for the brand that my body wants, as there are several

companies that make these amino acids. Also muscle

test for how many of each per day. Also, good diet

helps and lots of protein and water, and exercise.

Dear Herb,

Would need to know a little bit about your life style before answering the question specifically.

Lobelia is a great herb for panic attacks, but perhaps there are other things you can do. Suggest you go to the Herbal Remedies parent site at: http://www.AcademyOfNaturalHealing.com and listen to my FREE CD lecture if you haven't already done so. In the lecture I talk about the "CAUSES!!!!!" of these body and mental problems. If you just use the Lobelia, it may work for a while, but it'll still be a band aid if you don't get to the root of the problem and handle that.

Obviously there are some lifestyle changes you need to make to get a permanent long lasting result here.

Hope this helps.

Hi!

I suffered with severe panic and anxiety attacks for years. I was on

alot of different meds but the side effects were horrible. I finally

read a book about Sam-e and started it along with B complex, magnesium

and fish oils. I also have learned to use positive self talk when I

feel the anxiety/panic coming on so I can talk my self out of a full

blown attack! The mind is a very powerful tool so why not use it? Try

the Sam-e with the vitamins and fish oil and see how you feel.

Good luck!

also, a point known as sanri/3 miles (stomach #36) is good for nausea, motion sickness, etc.....hook your thumb into the top/back part of the tibia and hold for two minutes (in the depressions between the tibia and the tibialis anticus, 3 cun, [finger widths], below the patella, [knee cap])

also, if you're lucky enough to have someone around who will 'rock' your body, that is extremely sedating and relaxing to the body and the mind....you lie on your stomach, arms at your side, and the other person pushes gently down one side of your body from armpits to hips, and then the other, creating a gentle wave like motion in the body

recommend web search and/or shiatsu books to see exactly where to put the pressure, not all points are recommended for pregnant women

valarian, chamomile, and mint (pepper or spear)are

calming. smelling lavander oil may help too.

Breathing techniques are really the most useful for

panic...they help change the neural patterns going on,

but they take some practice, so you may want to look

for guided meditiation books or information on

biofeedback techniques.

Relax Now made by Herbalife, kava kava, chamomile tea, red poppy tea and kratom are all useful in treating these as well as a high protein diet.

I suffered from them too until I read about a simple method of

" short-circuiting " the attack. Wrap a thick, wide rubber band around your

wrist and when you feel an attack coming on, give it a good, hard snap.

This distracts the brain long enough so that you can gain control over the

attack and hopefully stop it before it becomes full-blown. I have even used

it with success in full-blown attacks.

Hope this helps...good luck! :-)

Does anyone here suffer panic attacks? I take Xanax for mine. I wonder if

there is a natural remedy for the smaller ones. The larger ones must be

medicated at my stage. And if there is a natural remedy, would it be

healing of the plants or just the deep breathing process that actually

works? I have been working on deep breathing to overcome smaller attacks

without medication. Any calming oils or remedies would be greatly

appreciated.

Hey Seasprite,

I take drops of Motherwort tincture (I got it at my local health

food store) under the tongue when I feel " the crazies " comin'

on....happens more than I would like to admit!

I also switch this up with tincture of Lemon Balm....drops under the

tongue also. They both calm me down, but are not narcotics.

You may want to consult a book about herb/drug interactions before

you try these though...they are potent medicines.

Good luck.

Bach's Rescue Remedy is wonderful for panic attacks. LOL on the big rubber band n the wrist. That is the exact same thing my counseling profesor said to do under your desk to enable yourself to " remain professional" when you really wanted to " go off" for some reason or the other. That advice has been priceless over the years.

Ariana,

I have similar experiences, something that helped me is yoga and meditation.

At the end of the night do something relaxing like reading or bathe, or have

your husband give you a massage. Put it in your mind that things will be okay.

Remove what stress you can in your life.

I honestly think its the stress of having a baby and having this little person

you know have to be fully responsible for.

Make sure you find a babysitter and go out!

I hope this helps.
