Dear Readers,

Beginning with the next issue of Simple Times, we'll be having

two Sponsor ads in each issue. If you've ever wondered how

to have an ad in this ezine, we've previously never accepted

paid advertising before, but as of this month, Simple Times

has been adopted by The Dollar Stretcher and will be an official

Dollar Stretcher resource. We're all grown up now!

If you have a book, resource, or product that might be of interest

to Simple Times 30,000+ readers, drop a note to Andrea at

marketing with a subject line of: Simple Times.

Discover the modest rates for reaching this targeted market.

Also, in the near future I'm going to be starting an email newsletter

called " Solo Parents " which will be published in conjunction with

The Dollar Stretcher family of resources. If you're parenting on

your own and you'd like to join the " Solo Parents " mailing list --

and be among the very first rs to this brand new venture

(hey, you'll be an official " Charter Member! " ) -- send an email to:

join-solo-parents

Since becoming essentially a single parent, myself, I've found

that most resources directed at single parents tend to focus on

things like " how soon can I start dating again? " Honestly, most

single parents I know mainly just want to get through each day,

keeping themselves and their families intact, without going insane.

I see this new ezine as becoming a repository of short articles

and tips for parenting, saving money, ideas for homemaking,

cooking, chores, child training, schooling options, homework

help, balancing schedules, mental health, spirituality, family

fun ... all with a solo parenting spin. Practical things we can

all implement without too much time or preparation ... after all,

time is a commodity in short supply in single parent homes.

I also realized while developing this new ezine that Solo Parents

doesn't have to apply only for people who are divorced, separated

or widowed. What about all the wives/mothers whose husbands

are serving overseas? Technically those parents might not be

single parents per se, but they're definitely doing the solo parenting

thing for long periods of time. They need all the support and help

they can get. I hope Solo Parents can address their needs, as

well.

the past few years that made me into essentially a single parent,

SIMPLE LIVING QUOTE

" Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have

into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos

into order, confusion into clarity. It turns problems into gifts,

failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and

mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our

past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow. "

10 PEOPLE TO SEND A " THANK YOU " NOTE ... TODAY!

Copyright 2007 Daria Perse

Used with permission from EzineArticles.com.

We live in this fast paced world, snatching at some things that

seem important at the moment, but don't really add to our

happiness; longing for goods or relationships that shall bring

us bliss.

We're focused on everything we lack in our everyday life and

forget to appreciate all the good stuff. Instead, we take the

good things for granted. Even more so, we don't have time

to appreciate the people and the relationships.

But today can be different. We can make someone's day --

it's not all that difficult. Here's an idea! Pick up a " thank you "

note and send it to someone, who made your day one way

or another; to someone who made you laugh; to someone

who made your life feel brighter, sunnier or different; nicer

on a single or several occasions.

Send a thank you card to someone who has done you a favor

when you hadn't even asked for one.

Send a greeting card to your mom for whatever good she did

for you (and forgive all the times when she was negative).

Send a thank you quote to your dad for something nice you

did together (and stop grieving about the things you expected

and never received).

Send a thank you note to that aunt who winked and understood --

when no one else in your family did.

Don't forget your child who made that precious drawing or a

favor to you -- which was a pure gift of unconditional love from

the innocent heart.

You might all of a sudden feel a need to thank a dear friend,

your neighbor, coworker or a relative for a special moment you

had together or simply -- for being themselves.

You can certainly make anyone's day by sending a " thank you "

note. It just might bring a smile on addressee's face or even a

tear in someone's eye. Your card will plant a seed of happiness

in the recipient's heart; this human being will go out and shine

that love to the world.

I believe that every act of kindness will come back to you ten fold.

We still harvest what we sow. Hence, start planting some happiness,

light, hope and love -- today.

THE TOP TEN REASONS TO TELL YOUR KIDS STORIES

Copyright Mark Brandenburg

Used with permission. All rights reserved.

http://www.markbrandenburg.com

In today's busy world, many fathers have lost the art of telling

their stories to their kids. Here are some reasons why these

stories are so beneficial:

1) Use them to teach lessons about life. Stories will stimulate

conversations with your kids more easily than lecturing can.

There are a lot of issues happening for kids these days, stories

give them a chance to reflect on them.

2) Stories connect your kids with previous generations. In a

society that seems to have families spread out all over, it's

vitally important to have ways to have your kids feel connected

to their extended families.

3) Stories stimulate your kids' imagination. One of the best

ways to prepare your kids for the world is to engage them in

vivid stories that stir their imagination. Kids who are exposed

to these kinds of stories will be the creative problem-solvers

of the future.

4) Kids who are exposed to stories will continue the tradition

with their own families. Knowing that your family traditions and

stories will be carried on by future generations is very comforting.

5) Stories can encourage your kids when they're discouraged.

Childhood can get pretty discouraging sometimes. Kids are

encouraged by knowing that Mom or Dad have gone through

the same kinds of things and have survived.

6) Telling your stories has you remembering your own childhood.

Telling your kids about your childhood is a great way for you to

remember and reflect on what was important about your younger

years.

7) Telling stories helps to create depth and soul in your kids. In

a TV and media-crazy culture, telling stories can capture your

kids' attention and convey real meaning.

8) Telling stories to your kids tells them they're worth the time.

Is there anything more important than conveying to your kids

that you want to spend intimate time with them?

9) Telling stories is a great chance to convey your values. Your

kids will be getting quite a few messages from their friends and

from popular culture. Stories are a great opportunity to sneak

in a few of your cherished values for your kids to hear.

10) Well-crafted stories create a wonderful mind-set for your kids

before they fall asleep. Kids will fall asleep faster and with healthier

images when you tell them your stories.

Re: Simple writing encouragement for children

To encourage my young daughter to write poetry, I decided to start

by example. I wrote her a poem and then asked for one back. My

poetry writing is a little rusty, but it was delightful to see her light

up to the idea of swapping beautiful prose with her old man! We've

been exchanging poems now all week and we're both getting much

better. She has been reading more poetry to get ideas and we have

been discussing each other's work, as well.
