Dear Heritage Foods Supporter,

As we tentatively take our first steps into August, the least pork friendly month of the year, we wanted to take this opportunity to alert you to some of the exciting products we will feature in the coming months.

In August and September we will celebrate the return of Indian Game Dark Cornish Heritage Chickens from Good Shepherd Ranch!

August also means the running of wild salmon at Lummi Island. Our fishing friends are camping out at the foot of the great reef where the salmon arrive each year. This salmon is only fresh a couple of weeks a year, so you won’t want to miss the season.

Paw Paws, the largest native North American fruit, are ripe but a couple of weeks a year. They should be ready to ship in early September.

Also in September, we will proudly feature a product over a year in the making: Virginia Traditions Heritage Proscuitto! We believe this cured product stands up to any produced in Europe!

And of course, stay tuned for Heritage fresh turkeys, ducks and geese, which you will be able to pre-order for the holidays.

Finally, we are thrilled to announce a very special event. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Mario Batali will join Heritage Foods USA and the Animal Welfare Institute to honor Frank Reese, the preeminent poultry expert in the United States, at a luncheon on Tuesday, September 25 from noon to 3:00 pm. Following lunch at Chef Batali’s Otto Enoteca Pizzeria Restaurant in New York City, Mr. Kennedy and Chef Batali will greet luncheon guests. Tickets for the lunch are $125. Proceeds from this event will support the Animal Welfare Institute and the Waterkeeper Alliance. We will extend a formal invitation and begin accepting RSVPs shortly.

Well, with all that we really have nothing extraordinary to sell this week! But we do hope you will consider making a purchase to help us through this lean month!

All the best as always,

I knew what Paw Paw was and always wanted to grow it when I was in IL but had no room for the tree in my tiny backyard.

Last year there was a little native Paw Paw bush, not edible, that was on the next property.

I didn't know what a Paw Paw was, but the name intrigued me, lol, so i looked it up:http://www.crfg.org/pubs/ff/pawpaw.html

Has anyone ever eaten one? Are they yummy?Cyndi

I have not, but thought I would like them just from the descriptions. Too bad I can not grow them here, now that I have room.
