Ayurvedic Nutrition & Food Theory

Sundays, 2-6pm)

(15 Instructional Hours; 30 Study Hours)

 

This course, one of a series comprising our Ayurvedic Practitioner

Training Program, will include an introduction to Ayurvedic

nutritional science, and include lectures / demonstrations on:

 

The Modern Nutritional Situation, Biochemical Nutrition, the

Mechanical Model and the Holistic Nutritional Model; Review of the

Tri-Dosha Theory with Physical & Psychological Profiles;

the Psychophysiological role of the Six Tastes;

Vipava (post-digestive effect);

Physiology of Digestion, Food Assimilation and Tissue Nutrition;

Environmental Issues;

Food Quality;

Local Food;

Understanding Time factors including Seasonal and Daily Rhythms;

Food Combinations;

Individually Structured Diets with Food Lists;

Survey of Ayurvedic Diagnosis - Determining Constitution; the Five

Elements and Six Tastes: Toxic Accumulation and Metabolic Imbalance

in Nutrition;

Effects of Dieting and Poor Nutrition;

How to Correct Digestion and Metabolism;

Descriptions of Foods by Category - fruits, vegetables, grains, etc.;

How to Treat Disease Nutritionally;

List of Diseases with effective Food Cures;

Issues relating to Clinical Practice;

Case Studies.

 

This course will be taught by Aparna Bapat, B.A.M.S. Dr. Aparna Bapat

is the Ayurvedic Program Director and Principal Instructor at

Starseed's New Jersey Institute of Ayurveda, and instructs the

Foundation-Level Certification course, Ayurvedic nutrition and food

theory, physical diagnosis and assessment, pathology and other

applied and clinical disciplines. She is an experienced Ayurvedic

physician who graduated from the renowned Pune University Faculty of

Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery in India. Dr. Bapat was a senior

lecturer at the College of Ayurveda in London and is now a visiting

lecturer at Ayurvedic facilities in London and Belgium. She is a

writer/contributor to the health columns of India Weekly and numerous

professional medical publications in Europe and the United States,

has been on television and radio health programs as an Ayurveda

authority in the United Kingdom, and is a member of the Board ofs of both the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA)

and the Association of Ayurvedic Professionals in North america

(AAPNA).

 

This is a credit-bearing course in our Ayurvedic Practitioner

Program. Registrants desiring credit for this course will be subject
