Guest guest
Hi all. I'm a new member here. I've had fluid in my right ear for 4+ years now and all the doctors have offered me so far are daily Entex, Flonase, and maybe surgery down the road (puncturing my ear drum-- ouch!!) I think the fluid has something to do with allergies and my eustachian tube being too thin or whatever. It's not painful but it's very annoying cause I can't swim deep and I hear better in my left ear. Are there any natural rememdies for removing this fluid? Thanks, KC
Guest guest
A sensitivity or allergy to dairy products (or anything else, but very often dairy) can lead to fluid in the ears. If you have any idea of what the allergies might be, you can try avoiding them for a few weeks and see what happens then. If an allergy is causing it, then if you avoid the allergen it should clear eventually. Guest guest
Hi KC, You could try doing some ear candling. This procedure involves taking linen that has been dipped in wax and rolled into a tapered candle shape with holes in both ends. What happens is by putting the tapered end in the ear, you'll create a vacuum if done correctly and it will draw the moisture and other, shall we say less desirable materials, out of your ears. My suggestion is to have someone assist you. The way I've done this with success in the past is to take a small paper or plastic plate, cut a small enough hole in th middle for the candle to fit through but not crush it, have the person getting the treatment lay on their side and place the tapered end in the ear. You want to make sure you get a good seal. Then have the person assisting light the other end and periodically trim the burnt section as it melts down. Trying to do this yourself is not recommended due to the fire hazards involved. You can purchase these at any Herb or Organic Food stores and once you've had a treatment you'll wonder why you took so long! I'd recommend alternating ears, first one ear, roll over, do the other ear and since you've never had the treatment before, do a second round. I will warn you that there may be a rather unpleasant odor, but that's to be expected. Ear Wax itself isn't the most pleasant of smells and you add any number or bacteria and who knows. I wish you luck and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Keith luvmy4shihtzus <luvmy4shihtzus wrote: Hi all. I'm a new member here. Guest guest
Carol, I wish I knew what I was allergic to. The doctors have been no help in this regard. They keep prescribing different medications which haven't helped. I don't eat much dairy anyway, but I could try to eliminate it and see what happens. I seem to remember that this ear fluid problem started right about the time that I began drinking a lot of coffee! I wonder if that can cause ear problems? It's just my right ear, though. My left ear is fine, although my nose is plugged up every day as well--especially the right side. The whole right side of my body is out of whack for some reason! Guest guest
Hi Keith, Thanks for the tip. I've heard about ear candling, but never tried it. I always thought it was for ear wax only. My right ear is clear of wax but there is definitely fluid behind the ear drum, at least that's what the docs tell me. I'm hesitant to have surgery because in my experience it fixes one problem but creates another! So, you're supposed to lay on your side to do ear candling? How does the fluid drain out if you're on your side, ear facing up? I guess I'll have to research this more. I'm willing to try just about anything right now. The last couple of days my right ear has been throbbing, popping, swishing, and when I breathe out of my nose I can feel it go out my ear! I can't sleep on my right side anymore because the fluid pressure makes my ear very painful and sore when I wake up. Guest guest
Hi KC, Could be coffee but dairy is more likely - any chance you have milk or cream in your coffee? Maybe it was an increase in dairy that set it off? The easiest way is to go COMPLETELY off dairy - but you have to read ingredient labels on everything to be sure you are totally off. Guest guest
I have allergies to my three dogs. At first I used accupuncture with great success. Now all I do is in the winter when the house is closed up I take Quercitin, Stinging Nettle and Vit C. That really works for me. If I have a flare up I will resort to something like Nasalcrom for maybe two days at most to keep the inflamation from getting bad. In the past I would end up with an ear infection. I have been following this for about 5 years now. Sue F.
Guest guest
Hi KC, I have had ear candling done many times and during it you can actually hear the fluid - you will hear hissing and crackling - the heat causes that and the fluid will reduce. However, if fluid is continuing to be produced, it may simply fill up again. It is definitely worth a try - it's a very relaxing process anyways, doesn't take that long, and isn't that expensive. Guest guest
I've tried the candling a couple of times and one time it worked great to remove excess wax. (I haven't had a problem with fluid build-up.) But one time the candling left my ear way too dry and I ended up with a terrible earache and I could hardly touch my ear without pain. So I would warn to be very careful with the amount of time you let the candle burn. I did follow directions and did it exactly the same each time, but still had a problem.
