Naturopathy : Saw Palmetto And Zinc for the Prostate

Q: MY husband recently had a prostate operation. Now he finds that he needs to

wait in the toilet after urinating as urine comes out again after a few minutes.

Quite often, he wets his briefs. He usually drinks alcohol with his friends over

the weekend.

A: DRIBBLING effects in urination is a common symptom of an enlarged prostate

gland. I would advise your husband to go on a zinc supplement as zinc deficiency

can lead to benign prostatic enlargement.

Saw palmetto is the best herb for prostate conditions, particularly when

combined with pumpkin seed. Scientists think the main beneficial effects of saw

palmetto is its rich source of plant sterols, very similar to those found in

pumpkin seeds.

Your husband should try taking this combination of herbs together with the zinc

supplement for at least three to four months.

He should also avoid drinking alcohol as it leads to a relative zinc deficiency

in the body. Alcohol also reduces active vitamin B6 levels and this leads to

further reduction in zinc absorption.
