I always hesitate to weigh in on conversations about educational

standards, evaluating courseware, creating certification programs. I

had a 25+ year career in doing all that, plus creating courses,

improving processes, and designing organizations.

Creating a certification program is difficult. If you have this weird-

ball, arcane knowledge, you can do it faster if the powers will leave

you alone to do it. As so many folks don't understand or place much

value on this kind of work, they often mistrust practitioners (or what

is worse, they think it doesn't require special skills and knowledge,

so they do it themselves. Then they hire - and annoy - experts who

have to clean up their messes. I really didn't enjoy my career all

that much, overall.)

I tried to work with the ARC for a while, but see the above

paragraph. I did evaluate several programs while I was looking for

the one I ultimately chose to take, and a few since. Unfortunately,

the fear of intellectual property theft prevents many programs from

effectively allowing someone to evaluate a program (and no, I don't

need to see the entire program to evaluate it). What is worse, the IP

theft is rampant.

I offered to work with a couple of folks for minimal dollars (about

1/10 of what I usually charge), but no one was interested.

So, I am left with the conclusion that few, if any, program

administrators are really interested in creating a quality program -

at least not interested enough to invest even the time to talk

seriously to me. This is the first industry I've seen where the

" thought leaders " are so complacent.

If you know the folks who run these programs, you might point them my

way. I'd even give 2 hours of free consultation (a $500 value at my

normal rates). I'm not worried about anyone taking me up on my offer!!

btw, we have had an offer on our San Francisco house. Yay. you can

see it at www.215-10thavenue.com. It took us 8 years to remodel it,

mostly by ourselves. We're about 2/3rds moved to our " retirement "

home in Gualala (Mendocino County on the Northern California coast).

I so look forward to finishing the remodel on this house!
