Guest guest
Got this in today from Kim and it is for anyone in the UK or with connections over there. Still in early stages but they are gearing up to help both British troops in Afghanistan and Haiti efforts with chair massage and supplies. If you are over the pond, please connect with your country's team, and spread the word over there. However not all of you know that I am a founder member and director of a charity called REST UK. We were formed after we worked in New York at Ground Zero in 2001-2002. Our aim is to help rescue workers in the UK by offering them chair massages when there has been a major incident. This is very successful. We are all volunteers and receive no public funding. I am writing to ask if you would consider helping me with a new project? Could I ask you if you would kindly read my proposal and feedback to me if you think you can help please? Our UK fire fighters have just returned from Haiti. They are known as UKISAR - UK International Search and Rescue. We work with them when there are incidents in the UK but can't do this when they are abroad unfortunately. However, I am considering sending them aromatherapy supplies that they can take with them when they respond to an earthquake disaster as well as giving them chair massages now they are home. Our Troops in Afghanistan As aromatherapists, I am also considering collecting and sending aromatherapy supplies to our heroes in Afghanistan. When we worked in New York, aromatherapists from across the US ( and UK) sent in supplies to help the rescue workers at Ground Zero and these were very much appreciated by the firefighters and others working in the debris of the Twin Towers. We could do the same for our troops and international rescue teams. I have an acquaintance who has been out to Afghanistan and is due to go back again. She described to me how their hands are cut to shreds with the dust, how they desperately need creams, insect repellent sprays and much more. Our International rescue teams also experience these hardships. My dear friend Sylla Shephard-Hanger is already doing sterling work in the US for the American troops, as she did for rescue workers after 9.11, I'm sure we could do the same here in the UK. You can read about her work on her website www.unitedaromatherapy.org Please let me have your thoughts on this matter as it is still in the early stages of discussion. Already I have had this feedback from the West Midlands Borough Commander who had 14 of his West Mids UKISAR team out in Haiti. Hi Kim, Many thanks for your kind words of support and yes most certainly, we in the West Midlands would certainly be interested in chair massages for the team at our Fire Service HQ, I dare say that our support staff that work at FSHQ would also be interested, we have a brand new Fire Service HQ building and the entrance Foyer or Bistro area would be ideal for you and your colleagues. West Midlands sent 14 of our personnel to Haiti. As for storing and distribution of any consumable items whilst in theatre, that is the domain of West Sussex and St John (Singe) Stanley, so I've copied him into this reply. Kind Regards, Alan Alan Pellowe Commander Borough of Solihull My friend is going to be speaking to her High Commanding Officer to see about us sending supplies to Afghanistan. If you would like to lend your support in this venture or have other ideas that could be useful, I would love to hear from you. Thank you for taking the time to read this email Take care, Kim Kim Wooldridge Managing Director and Founder Member of REST UK Reg.
