Guest guest
I had cataract surgery on both eyes in May (yes, even we sweet young things get cataracts - genetic factors contribute (thanks, Mom)). In one eye, he also did a bit of additional cutting to tend to extreme astigmatism in that eye. I now see better than I have in my entire life - after starting wearing glasses at age 9. I don't need glasses at all, at all, and have just a little problem with seeing things that are very close. I am a total chicken**** when it comes to needles, knives, etc., but these surgeries were great. They gave me a ton of happy juice, and my surgeon and anesthetist have a wonderful sense of humor. For those facing eye surgery, I am sorry. Detached retinas, etc. (yes, Mom had those, too) are nothing to mess with. And some doctors and surgery centers have done a great job of making the experience positive overall. I wish I'd had the cataracts done a year before I did. Guest guest
Somehow, Trish, I would have never thought of you as being here in the 'chicken' club when it comes to surgery or needles, what with some of the gruesome conditions you might be faced with out there in Sierra Leone. Thanks for you good advice. I have a follow up visit Feb 12 and have my fingers crossed that retina won't detach between now and then. I do now feel a very slight soreness in the affected eye and blurriness in addition to the pacman floater. I call him that because he's c-shaped and opens and closes as he travels across my line of vision. Cataracts probably will need attention eventually. I like looking at things closely, so I won't procrastinate (much as I might want to just put my head in the sand) whatever needs to be done either now or then.
