IT seems many are suffering so badly! This conversation with a mother on the

essential oils forum, who has no idea about Ayurveda but had good success with

an oil I didn't know could be used here, frankincense. Shared with her

approval. - I had asked if anyone had worked with the first two which are very

gentle. - Ysha

Hi Ysha,

I don't have any specific experience for either chamomile or rosewood in regards

to thrush.

I fought thrush with my both of my children. My daughter had a terrible diaper

rash from it. I used the frankincense neat in her mouth, on my nipples, and on

her bottom. It worked. My nipples cracked with my son's thrush – it happened

before I knew it and that is THE worst experience possible when breastfeeding.

I was so grateful for frankincense and helichrysum (neat on nipples for healing)

and lansinoh.

I battled a yeast infection for months when I was pregnant with my son. It was

horrible. I tried so many different things - yogurt suppositories, vinegar

douches, hydrogen peroxide douches, fresh essence mouthwash douches, all laced

with oils of course – with no relief. It wasn't until I combined the melaleuca,

the claraderm spray, and two Life 5 (probiotic) capsules each evening (vaginal)

that I got relief.

Hi Katilyn -

Sounds like horrible experiences and powerful learning ones. I had cracked and

bleeding nipples with my first baby about 36 years ago....what worked best was

the lanolyn and 5-10 min/day n the sun (I figure Vit D there). An ayurvedic

doc, Claudia Welsch whom I've heard speak swears also by meleleuca for vaginal

yeast. Strong doses actually, don't have my notes handy on it.

We don't see so much of these things as Ayurvedic doulas. Thrush and other

yeast infections are related to very poor metabolism of foods - weak or

irregular " agni " . and often, high heat creating foods, not just sugars. Yours

is the first time I've heard use of Frankincense for thrush, sounds like great

choice in terms of being milder tasting. May I post your experience on the

perinatalayurveda forum ()? We have a file on the subject also, some in

depth analyses by ayurvedic practitioners working with it, and other oily mom's

experiences.

Warm Regards,

Ysha

> Hi Amy,

> I am a current breastfeeding Mom. I have dealt with Thrush by using

Frankincense oil. It is very mild to the taste and gentle to the nipples.

Apply it neat AT LEAST every time the baby nurses, both before AND after the

nursing to both nipples, regardless of use. If there is major soreness wait

until the oil is absorbed and then apply Lansinoh Lanolin, also both before and

after the nursing. If possible, give the nipples a lot of air (wait to apply

the Lansinoh). Wash clothes, bras, breast pads, teethers, toys, everything that

could have touched the nipples or the baby's mouth really well and often. The

frankincense oil can be put directly in the baby's mouth if thrush is really

bad. There is hardly any flavor. It can also be applied to the baby's bottom

neat if there is a rash from the thrush. If the mother also has a yeast

infection use capsules of Melaleuca Alternifolia inserted into the vagina

followed by ClaraDerm spray. Feel free to email me with more questions.

I wish I knew what some of these things are on this forum and where to find them

and how to use them.

It sometimes sounds like the world is being taken over by fungus:)

I usually tell moms not to use Lansinoh, It is made from sheep oil and some may

be allergic to wool, hence, Lansinoh. It also holds moisture and fungus against

the nipple. Moms like it when their nipples are dry. I wonder if coconut oil

wouldn't be better for that.

As a Lactation Consultant I always ask mothers not to use Lansinoh or any

barrier type ointment on their nipples and even on babies bottom.

I suggest Olive oil or Coconut oil as both has antifungal properties and they

work very well for diaper rush too.

Vicky and All -

Please, always just ask for which you are looking, or for clarification on

anything that is unclear to you. We all will do our best, just like you do.

Sometimes things posted are mostly from India, but most things someone can share

where/how to get them in the US, Australia, Europe, wherever someone is.

Vicky, Katilyn mentioned several products available from Young Living. You need

to be able to help your clients order these things, we can help you with that

bast on a phone call. I don't try to stock any inventory (business advice here)

except herbs usually, though I keep enough of favorite postpartum products to

give people experience sample so they can decide if they want to work with it.

Love,

Ysha
