FDA claims the low levels found in Nestle Nutrition's Good Start

Supreme Infant Formula with Iron and Mead Johnson's Enfamil Lipil with

Iron are safe, though before claiming none was safe they have reversed

their position. Breastfeeding, of course is so much better, but not

every client is doing so, some even have real reasons they cant

(adoption being top of my list). Anyway, in compassionate concern, we

need to stay educated.

If nothing else, it would be good for adoptive moms or others who can't nurse to

at least get some donor breastmilk for the first week to seal the intestines

before cows milk gets in there.

Hi Vicky -

Good advice! Colostrum especialy. Especially good approach as to

arrange for long term surrogate nursings is a daunting consideration;

first week much easier to think about and more likely to happen.

I would expect that is also part of the role of the traditional

Ayurvedic use in INdia and Nepal of a small amount as linctus of ghee

(and raw honey and few grains of calamus or brushing of gold, though

these are especially used as first immunization).
