hi ysha,

i just want to respond to say that i work with this

population.

i have been a pp doula for over 13 years and have seen

an increase in c sections, not so much low birth

weight, but often times c-sec and inductions done too

early. i see babies with a lot of issues, extreme

fussiness, cant settle, nursing issues. on the

mother's side, i see a lot of emotional issues from

traumatic births, lack of confidence in her mothering

abilities, nursing issues, etc. any suggestions that

you or anyone on this list has to helping would be

great.

i tend to do baby massage and show moms some

techniques. i work with essential oils when they are

open to it.

i would love to learn more about how to help a woman

heal from the csec from an ayurvedic perspective, as i

see more and more women have these types of births.

thanks,

mavis

Dear Mavis;

By my experience and tool set, the maternal dietary and support

systems for rest as well as herbals and essential oils are all really

important, along with warm oily gentle repetitive massage for both of

them. Avoiding cold foods and drinks, leftovers, all those things,

extra ghee are tremendously valuable for the mothers, with EXTRA

attention to babying her digestive system for longer time. I was

taught to consider her focus window for rejuvenation, rest and more

inward/privte time as 8 weeks instead of 6 after surgery.

Be sure bathroom, oil etc context is extra warm and things kept very

simple in the household, even if it means mom and baby hanging out in

one or two rooms. Not to think of as sequestered - and she won't feel

this if she is well fed, warm tub soaks or heat treatments and showers

as soon as ok, well oiled, daily massaged, and rested. It is her

sacred space and time. But the various therapies assist the attention

to go inward instead of outward, this is key for mother and baby.

Baby can receive two warm oil massages daily, no bath after second and

less strokes, more gentle/soothing.

Again, remember the emotional issues are not just from feeling maybe

she didn't " perform " well. It is very much a product of her

physiology at this time, and the delicacy of her system in bonding iin

subtlety as well as derangements from all the sudden changes. TAke

the burden off the psychology as much as you can this way, it is the

truth of the matter that attending to her own care will help both her

ability to mother spontaneously well, and to her baby feeling more at

ease.

In that context, the essential oils then serve to support her

emotional balance to more permanently improve best when she

understands this. They serve as a powerful reminder to the

physiology, but when she feels self-blame and other such emotions, it

can undo itself.

Let me know if this helps;

Warm regards;

Ysha

Hi Mavis;

This evening I have been following up on another forum's posts in

response to my request for research reports for some work I want to

do. In the process, reminded of significant factors you may want to

make a note of with your clients, for the record as well as helping to

understand cause/effect/support relationships with the following

highly correlated in addition to the surgery effects to infant

problems immediate postpartum -

SSRI use during pregnancy, particularly last trimester the incidence

goes high. Many articles here -

In addition to Janel's work which surely is significant, support with

essential oils and I expect flower essences also for the emotional

stressors is significant. Note that in addition, essential oils

(organic only again I must say for first time readers, please see

basics at www.sacredwindow.com/EO-basics)help the body clean and

digest the system clogging accumulations (around glands, nerves, etc)

oils like lemon and the digestives come most to mind here. Noticably

also, the amygdala gland, where record of traumatic effects is stored

and throws it's patterns systemically, this gland is most easily

influenced by the sense of smell. Direct inhilation is very directly

supportive.

Thanks to Rich Winkler for some amazingly responsible attention,

collecting of reports and activism in the field.

I hope this begins to help;

Ysha
