Guest guest
Hi, I have a friend who is about to give birth but her baby is breeched. I know that some mothers have great response communicating with the baby, however, what other suggestions do you all have? Also, in response to the " bathing infants " email, here's Ysha's recipe for soap pudding (Ysha, I hope it's ok to share it here...). This soap pudding is applied to the baby's body right after the full body massage: * 1 tblsp. finely milled chick pea (Garbanzo or Besan) flour * 1/3 cup milk In your smallest saucepan (1 cup gravy or butter pan is best), mix flour with enough milk to make a paste. Add the rest of the cool milk. Put on high or medium heat, stirring constantly with a whisk or wooden spoon. When it bubbles, it will begin to thicken. Another ½ minute and it's ready. Cover the pot and place it on a hot pad so you can carry it to the bathroom. This mixture cools quickly and you don't want it to go from lukewarm to evaporating into cool on your baby. Apply warm on the whole body of your baby. This " soap " makes your baby quite slippery, so it's important to make sure that you are ready to bathe your baby right afterwards. Also, to prevent that your baby getting cold, it's important to bathe right afterwards. This " soap " is wonderful for the baby's skin. It removes excess oil from the oil massage and cleanses the pores leaving baby's skin soft and silky. This " soap " is not strong enough, however, to get all the oil out of hair, therefore, you may need to use some mild glycerine soap or baby shampoo. Enjoy and have fun [] Sincerely, Heidi (I am currently working on the requirements to become a certified AyurDoula - I participated in Ysha's intensive program in Boulder, CO, this summer)
Guest guest
Hi Heidi - Check your essential oils class notes pp 31-34 - some mothers have great results with myrrh oil on the belly, or peppermint oil near the baby's face location. There are more ideas and links to a natural childbirth website with great collection/list in that section also (pregnancy, last trimester notes on essential oils, you may not have reviewed all the notes yet from the class...The links to more ideas include www.birthrite.org and the really good one, http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/breechcl.html. The myrrh story is by Dr. David Stewart's son and daughter in law and their journey to birth in famous midwife Ina Mae's care, who is skilled at deliverying breeches, last minute turning without her help. From Ayurveda I have not been given any such wisdom, tho a rose by any name is still a rose, and can be described in ayurvedic terms. Thanks for sharing the soap recipe. Keep us posted on this breech experience? Namaste; Ysha
