Guest guest
Hmm, not to get too negative, but there is educaton in my opinion to be attended to here, which is why I teach a couple hours on the subject of antidepressant medications during the AyurDoula training for a heads up with some resources. Here's a bit just came thru the wires from www.drugawareness.org. A good resource for those already on antidepressants to have certain needed tools. The following is with political implications from Dr. Tracy's analysis (below) who is one of the international proponents most strongly protecting us from the heavily monied emphasis on SSRI drug misuse. Her research implicates thes medicines not only with major blood sugar problems such as diabetes, asthma, joint problems, suicide, depression (!), cancer, and 40 - 80 pound average weight gain, cortisol inspired at levels way beyond caffienne, sugar, and many other life stressors. I offer this info to not only because of the high incidence of perinatal use still, but to possibly open some conversation about the ayurvedic implications. To begin, this class of medications covers up the symptoms which tell us we are out of balance in vata and pitta ways especially, while increasing the vata a nd pitta aggravations by the nature of the drug effects. It becomes a much more complicated management picture to reverse without very clear and effective tools. These tools and guidance need to be from a qualified ayurvedic medical practitioner or ayurvedic MD. It is not something an AyurDoula is qualified to do. Warm Regards; Ysha DONATIONS TIE DRUG MAKERS TO NONPROFIT CONSUMER GROUPS .... The ties between drug companies and everyone in between who could encourage the use of their drugs has been a very well kept secret for much, much too long! To see such exposure in a major newspaper is refreshing to say the least. Bravo to Thomas Ginsberg for a great article! A few of the major points: " The ADA [American Diabetes Assoc.], which received 5 percent to 10 percent of its revenue last year from drug companies, reported little initially in 2004 about suspected diabetes risks from antidepressants. Instead, Tuncer, its spokeswoman, said it convened an expert conference - funded by drug companies - and ended up echoing the concerns. . . . " The longer drug companies can stall in allowing such information to reach the public, the fewer lawsuits they will face because the statue of limitations - the time period in which a suit can be filed for damages - runs out in generally a short two years. This link between antidepressants and the huge increase in diabetes is something I have shouted very loudly about for over a decade and a half. The damage to the pancreas by this group of drugs was my first concern. And as I point out in my book I feel it is ABSOLUTELY NO COINCIDENCE that the company who introduced the first SSRI to the US, Eli Lilly (Prozac), is also the biggest manufacturer of diabetic products.... more at the website maintained by Dr. Ann Blake Tracey, www.drugawareness.org.
