Guest guest
Hmm. Thank you, Audrey, for noticing this. I won't allow any more posts from this group again. I have no clue why a focus group would have to be in a certain age range, but it certainly wasn't explained if or why it is necessary. It felt a little " spammy " despite being free, but that just about puts the lid on the can. Why don't a bunch of folks call good old Jimmy or Mckinley and gripe about it? Guest guest
I doubt if Caroline Myss would approve of that DAH comment about 18-50. I don't think an intelligent woman like herself would say you must be between 18 & 50. That 'jimmy' (?) has to go? Carolyn Myss is okay in my book. Guest guest
FYI The reason for the " age range " is simple.... This is a FOCUS group - and a VERY WIDE age range at that! The reason for the age range is to try to gauge WHO will be watching (demographic wise) ! EVERYONE regardless of their age is welcome to attend this focus group and the tapings of Caroline's upcoming show! My name is Jimmy Floyd- and if you have any further questions - feel free to let me know!
Guest guest
Ms. Abreu, My name is Jimmy Floyd - I am the person who posted the above mentioned invitation to you and your folks. First - let me apologize for what has obviously been mis-interpreted as an " ageist " - or discriminatory line in this invitation. I should have made the reason for the age range clear. EVERYONE - no matter what age - is ALWAYS welcome to attend any and all tapings of Caroline's show. This however is a FOCUS GROUP - where EVERY age range MUST be represented to present to executives that make the decisions on whether a show is in deed catering to ALL of the age ranges that watch a network! I do want to also mention that I am a freelance casting director / audience coordinator - and any and all " calls for guests " come from me , and my company Jimmy Hank Promotions ... not Caroline Myss or Oxygen Network - so any and all blame should be one ME ...no-one else. But Please - let me explain myself - My job as a casting director is to be sure that the age ranges are represented. We already had several folks that were over 50 yrs old booked for this event... and we needed the other age ranges specifically! Since we only have room for 60 folks - I had to put a " call " out for the other ages to be represented! For instance - for this focus group I have the following : 20 yr old range : 12 guests 30 yr old range : 12 guests 40 yr old range : 12 guests 50 yr old range : 12 guests 60 and above range : 12 guests (in this group we have folks right up to 79 years old!) I write all this to again apologize, and explain myself to you. I feel awful that anyone would mis-interpret what I was trying to achieve. I think that your site/ group is wonderful, and very well done.... the last thing I would ever want to do is offend anyone! By the way - someone made the comment that I " must be 16 yrs old " No !! LOL... I just turned 36 last week. If I can answer anymore questions for you ...or explain further - PLEASE contact me directly at this screen name - or by phone at 212-651-9332. Again - please be assured that we welcome everyone to the tapings of Caroline's show (we start taping them in October!)..... All My Very Best, Jimmy Floyd Jimmy Hank Promotions
Guest guest
No... I apologize again for this.. I feel awful It was all about having limited space - and already having a higher age range represented... I would never descriminate for age - or anything else! I feel SO blessed to be a part of this project... Caroline is so talented and awsome... and we are all working so hard to see her kind of energy and message is out there to the masses! Guest guest
We already had several folks who signed up when we did The pilot for the show etc.... and again - this is just a focus group - normally there would never be ages listed at all! As I said before - everyone is welcome ! Thank you for taking the time to talk to me about this - I hope that My answers etc show that I am very concerned how everyone feels...and I am doing my best to convey that ! jimmy
Guest guest
Thank you--36 yr old Jimmy! Sounds like you had a lesson in promotion! And a lesson in communication! Yes, this is a great group, and thought is deep! I am 61, and so much more in-tuned now at this age. I also have much greater understanding of what I went 'through' previously in life! I speak for many. Apology accepted! I am sorry that I did not understand, ---what I did not see stated. I am after all 'intuitive', however, I must 'see' you, to 'feel' what you mean to say. I hope your group are fantastic! The carolyn Myss program-(?). will it AIR/ When, HOWQ etc. Will you let us know???
Guest guest
The way I figure it, those under 18 can not legally enter into any purchase agreements, some of which may include substantial financial repercussions. Those over 50 may be considered somewhat difficult in terms of inticing into those very same agreements because they tend to be a bit tighter with their finances. Basically, those sponsoring the event may have deduced that the demographics indicates those between the ages of 18 and 50 are most likely to part with their hard-earned resources. Just a guess, Mani >I doubt if Caroline Myss would approve of that DAH comment about 18-50. Guest guest
I thought, because it said those who *appear* to be the ages of... that maybe it was going to be taped and made into a commercial or a video. Whenever there are tapings, they use this same wording. Guest guest
Jimmy, Next time just don't put an age on it, that would take care of the problem. Not sure how you already got only 60+ year olds, maybe you could give us specifics on that because it sounds suspect. I live near Hollywood and get things all the time for screenings and such. 18 - 50 is standard and it's ageism, plain and simple. Guest guest
Come on now, I'm sure there are many of us who are over 50 and " appear " to be between those ages. I mean, if I say I appear to look 40, then who's gonna argue? It's subjective. What are they gonna say if I'm 35 and appear to look 60 because I have cancer, am dying and would really like some help from Miz Myss? Are they gonna discriminate against me because I don't " look " the right age from an illness? I think this sounds like its from producers rather than from Oprah or Miss Myss. I certainly am going to forward that email to the Myss and Oprah web site as many times as I can just so they can re read that sentence a bunch of times. Currently I appear to be 60, but my personality appears to be about 17 years old. But in age I'm 50 so just made the cut off line. But of course I'm in the wrong state. I'm in a psychotic state, does that count? LOL oh well, if they were doing so good, they wouldn't have to be soliciting for people to go to the programs for FREE!!! Heck, I woulda paid to go. So they're not real smart. This irked me too, as you can see. Guest guest
Hello! Thank you for being so understanding I really was sad when I realized that people misunderstoof the whole " age " thing within that invitation - ugh - never dawned on me that I should explain that - but of course I should have (and always will in the future) . As for the actual SHOW - Yes! Happily I can report that after shooting a pilot (shot two months ago) the Oxygen Network has ordered 10 episodes! We will be shooting the first 5 shows the first week of October , and the second half in November ! I want to invite everyone from this group (bodymind) when we have exact times etc for the October tapings Jimmy
Guest guest
Read it again. It says " must APPEAR to be between the ages of 18 and 50. " (emphasis mine) It says nothing about actual ages. Guest guest
I can't see how this makes any difference! No! It makes it worse! 'Let's only show peoples faces who look like they are between the ages of 18 to 50.' Incouraging the age/appearance obsesiveness of our culture. Guest guest
Jimmy, Let me add my appologies too. I also hit the reply before reading on to the rest of the posts (typical of me). I'm sure we'd all love to know when (etc) the show will air. Guest guest
Audrey, I certainly wasn't excusing it! I was surmising why the age limitation was put in there. Jimmy has apologized which I think is great. Frankly, I don't believe him that he already had the over-60 crowd lined up. Producers *always* put appear to be 18 - 50. That's who they want. I think we made him think and that's what I'm grateful for. Linda audreylee wrote: > I can't see how this makes any difference! No! It makes it > worse!
