Guest guest Report post Posted July 14, 2001 Hello: I am new to the list. I have searched the archives, but did not find anything to help me. After losing a son and father 3 years ago, i went into quite a rage and depression. Although i hate taking chemicals, nothing was helping except the Zoloft. I have tried herbs - Melissa, St. JW, etc etc. they do nothing but give me an allergic reaction. <weak smile> I want - very badly - to get off Zoloft. Please can anyone help me? Guest guest Report post Posted July 15, 2001 There could be a few different reasons for your illness.... Do you have mercury fillings? Sometimes they cause these symptoms. Please can anyone help me? Hi Dr. Ann, You are probably low in SamE or low in Serotonin or high in Homocystine, any of which are involved in depression. To boost SamE & drop Homocystine you need to eat protein foods with Methionine (a precursor) then take at least 1,000 ug of Folate, 1,000 ug of B12, 200 mg of B6 and 500 mg of TMG. This provides ample precursors and conversion factors to reduce Homocystine & boost SamE production. For Serotonin you need Thyptopan rich proteins (soy protein isolates, eggs, etc.), a small amount of 5TTP & 200 mg of B6 as the liver will convert Thyptopan into B6 if it is low. Hyperium at lower doses than you have been taking may also help as it reduces the reuptake in the nerve synapse. If I had your problem I would take the following in the morning: 30 g of protein powder (in a low GI smoothie), 1,000 ug of B12, 1,000 ug of Folate 200 mg of B6 Mild dose of Hyperium Mild dose of 5TTP Hope this helps, sorry I missed your original message, Greg
Guest guest Report post Posted July 19, 2001 Dear Greg, Thanks for the effort but she unsub'd right after her tirade. Psych drugs can create this kind of "attack" phenomenon, so please don't worry about. It's not you. Love, Doc Ian "Doc" Shillington N.D.505-772-5889Dr.IanShillington > Hello: I am new to the list. Guest guest Report post Posted October 29, 2002 Just a thought. Maybe she isn't digesting protein? Taking digestive enzymes that digest protein may help. And since we get certain amino acids from protien if she is not digesting this then couldn't it produce a craving to eat more? Just talked about amino acids helping depression. I wish I had some kind of study in this area. My mother had bad migrains and they used antidepressants to remedy this. Seems that migrains and tension headaches shows up with an imbalance in the body. I hope she didn't stop her medicine suddenly because that will cause many serious symptoms, especially if she was on a high dose. Drop one tablet a month or every two weeks. Ask me about sewing and I can spill all! Liz D. Gettingwell, " Alobar " <alobar@b...> wrote: > I have a friend who has gotten herself off Zoloft and is > experiencing protein cravings. Guest guest Report post Posted October 29, 2002 Just thought of this. I was on antidepressant for about 5 or 6 years straight and I knew it wasn't mental. I have been having problems with my hormones and no doctor would even test me. Found a natralpathic doctor that tested my estrogen and progesterone levels. My progesterone levels were very low. So he did two things. One, he gave me natural progesterone cream untill we found the right dose. (you can buy it at the health food store.) Then he supplemented me with low thyroid medication. Both problems presented depression and fatigue. Also to note that my thyroid test tested normal. So a new doctor I saw suggested me to stop the thyroid medication and to take alfalfa capsules. Alfalfa contains many minerals to support the thyroid and the body. When female homones are out of balance it can cause migrains, I wonder now if that was my mothers problem at the time or not? Anyway I just thought of this and couldn't miss mentioning this information because it saved my sanity. Liz D. Guest guest Report post Posted October 29, 2002 Hi Alobar, Yes, the craving for protein is quite common when coming off these medications. There are so many symptoms involved and this drug affects almost all systems of the body it is hard to know what is causing what. These type of drugs are very dangerous even though they are widely prescribed. There are 4 or 5 links on our link page that cover psychotropic medications. She should read them all even the ones not specifically for antidepressants. These drugs can cause huge changes in the body and mind that may take years to recover from. I do hope that she came off this medication with a gradual taper. They common prescribing info is that they are not habit forming. This is not true. They are very habit forming but different from craving an opiate or something. One Pharma company is being sued for this falsehood. Please s and take a good look at some of what these drugs can do to you.
