Hi Everybody!

All materials dissolve in water. The degree of solution depends upon the material and temperature of water.

At room temperature, plastics and PVC do not dissolve or leach chemicals in water. They have a chemical dioxin, which leaches into water at elevated temperature. The rate of leaching is practically nil at room temperature but is increased at near boiling temperatures. Still the rate is miniscule but harmful for long term usage. PVC is better for food storage than plastics as it is more impervious to leaching out of dioxin. Dioxin is carcinogenic

Safely use food grade PVC for water and food to be stored at room or lower than room temperatures but do not use plastic containers. Do not use PVC vessels for boiling water or for microwave cooking. In no case use plastic trays or containers for reheating in microwave ovens or for reheating in boiling water. Same goes for the cling films used for covering microwave cooking. Use glass lids.

Hopkins Institute has issued no warning. Read Encyclopaedias and or Wikipedia for finding out facts about dioxin and emails making tall claims.

[HealthyIndia] Urban legend - John Hopkins Article

Good Day Brothers and Sisters,

Its Tuesday, 23rd October 2007

Hello My dear Brothers and Sisters,

Good Morning and a Great New Day full of laughter,

joy and peace to you all,

There is an article on the web detailing the link between

plastic and cancer from the John Hopkins Institute ...

I received a reply from one of my friends directing me

to the www.snopes.com website, showing me

How the article may be a fraud/urban legend ...

The link in case you want to check it right away is

http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/cookplastic.asp

I get a lot of information emails from various people about various topics. I have found some of them to be real and some are false. So, before I pass on info these days, I always check with http://www.snopes.com -- a site that posts urban legends particularly those that circulate via email. I looked up the info about John Hopkins and cancer. I only found something about microwaving food in plastic containers but it looks like this email is similar to the one circulating on the web Check it out here:
