To try left St38 foward Bl57, right should 3 needles. When you finish the

treatment, turn the St38 and move the right arm.

Good Luck!

No, no she just came to me this week. She has been suffering from the

shoulder for a year. I have not begun treating it with anything but

accupressure. I was wondering if anyone on the list had used herbs for

treating it?

Mark,

My teacher called it 50 years old shoulder. I've had very good

results using Tiaokou, Stomach 38. It's the fist point I use prior to

addressing local shoulder points. In my experience, the patient must

feel some form of sensation. I never tell the patient what I expect

from stimulating this point just in case it does not work. However,

I've only seen the point not yield good result once; the pt had bone

cancer and did not know it. Once the patient feels a sensation on

St.38, I ask them to move the shoulder in any fashion they choose.

It's almost like magic. I then proceed to treat the shoulder. I think

an important aspect of treatment for this condition is movement both

passive and active, patient should be encouraged to move the shoulder.

If you choose herbal rx consider including jiang huang on your

prescription.

Regards,

You didn't provide any other specifics - but when a shoulder is 'frozen'

you often seen signs of Cold which leads to Blood stagnation etc... So,

I like formulas that are warm and blood moving, like Shen Tong Zhu Yu

Wan and you can add some envoys. 'They' say that Huang Qi is used for

the right shoulder and Dang Gui is used for the left (which is often the

shoulder women have this problem with). Has she been to the western

docs? Frozen shoulder can have a lot of causes - blood clots, tumours,

dislocations, etc etc.. I think the herbs will be a helpful adjunct,

but you have to also use a lot of heat (TDP, moxa, etc), active

stretching, acupuncture, etc. to get good results. Some cases

spontaneously resolve themselves, but I don't know what %. Get in there

and feel around; there's usually lots of tight bound up tissues /

muscles involved pulling the shoulder out and adhesive tissue build up.

Good luck,

Geoff

I also find ST38 very good. However, I usually needle ipsilateral

GB34 first, asking subject to move shoulder, as Fernando does.

If that does not give ease in 1 minute, I then add ST38 and repeat.

If that does not work in a minute or so, I check for TPs near

shoulder (trapezius, neck, scapular ms, pectorals, upper arm).

I needle any TPs found and add the " Shoulder Triplet " [sI09 + TH14

(or LI15) + pt 1 " above top of anterior axillary crease + 1-2 distant

points on ipsilateral forearm (TH05) or forearm/hand (LI04 or LU09).

I finish the session with a good deep rub of the area with MOOV

[Ayurvedic deep-heat-type rub] or Tiger Balm. I treat once/week for

2-3 sessions.

I ask the subject to use MOOV or Tiger Balm at home. I ask that

the lateral neck, trapezius, scapular muscles and area all around

the shoulder joint be rubbed hard and deep to bring a blush to the

rubbed areas every night, preferably after a hot bath before bed.

Results are very good.

Best regards,

In addition, consider doing the same with SI3, having the patient move

their shoulder while stimulating it.

Hi Leah,

Yes, hot and cold therapy along with the Deep Tissue Repair Oil and massage. Then she needs to begin to work that shoulder as much as she can. This will begin to loosen it. But lots of hot and cold therapy and the Deep Tissure Repair Oil.

hello, my mother had frozen shoulders and had two operations. the dr. told her that she got them by not using her shoulders,,,hardly ever raising her arms, being sedentary. she drinks a lot of cokes which leach calcium from the bones. she also carried a purse too heavy for her. cashiers get this problem from overreaching. anyway, after surgery she did physical therapy, such as arm lifts and push ups against a wall. one dr. suggested that if she had used a hammer and pounded nails on a regular basis, this would have unlocked her frozen shoulder. i suppose the area must be "broken" loose. and maybe lubricated through a good diet. perhaps doing these therapies in advance would prevent the need for surgery. my mother had to use an cooling body bag after surgeries, and these can be rented. my mother has not had a reoccurance as the dr. warned, but she does try to do daily stretches. she is 65. i will pray for your mom.

Has anyone heard of this? My friend has it - she says it started when she was working out one night, she felt some pain, but then as time went on her lower arm went numb, her upper arm is in excrutiating pain. She has tried many alternative therapies - chiropractic, reiki, vitamin therapy, prolotherapy, massage, energy healing - nothing is working and she's at the point where she's scheduled for surgery on Nov 30.Does anyone have any other ideas that stand a good chance of working? My sister suffered with this for two years

of chiropractic treatment and herbs.

Don't do the surgery till you have tried

Recovazon, both topically and internally.

Bowen Therapy for excellent results with Frozen Shoulders.

I have treated clients that have had a Frozen Shoulder for over 10

years who have tried all sort of other therapies.

After one treatment with Bowen Therapy they normally have full use of

the arm again. Depending on the person this can take over 3-5 days

for complete healing.

So far I have had 100% success rate.

After only three weeks a manipulation under anesthesia is ridiculous. If she

truly has acute capsulitis, the pain is severe, she cant lie down on that

shoulder and the pain is felt down arm the best treatment is a steroid injection

(and she may need more than one). In the shoulder, a non weight bearing joint,

steroids are not harmful.

TCM can help but often takes too long and she may develop a true frozen

shoulder (i.e., adhesions).

frozen shoulder

Alon and others,

Can acu/moxa treatments be helpful in resolving frozen shoulder

(adhesive capsulitis)? There is swelling and pain in bursa for about 3

weeks. Patient is a 45 yo woman with CFIDS dx, very pale and thin

(auschwitzean), depressed. She has a pale, thin small tongue; thready

pulses, thin and weak in each system. Due to CFIDS weakness, she cannot

exercise or do most exercise, including taiji. She occasionally tries

to tone up with stretching, which is how she messed up her shoulder. She

is applying fresh comfrey leaf compresses 3 x a day to the shoulder.

She comes twice a week for acupuncure and moxa.

An osteopathic physician has recommended a manipulation of the shoulder

under general anesthesia. Her CFIDS doc says she absolutely cannot take

general anesthesia. Also she is afraid of permanent injury to the

shoulder through manipulation. There is so little to work with. She

may be right.

Thank you

I've had that in both shoulders at the same time. Physical therapy took

care of one. After long suffering , the other showed a bone spur

pressing on the bursa. All Xrays missed it, til I held sand bags while

taking another Xray.

Here is an ABC article on

prolotherapy:

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/PainManagement/Story?id=4230591 & page=1

It's explained oddly when they talk about

scarring. In reality they take a Proliferant

like dextrose and inject it in the pain

pathway. It proliferates or irritates and

produces not scar tissue but new tissue and mends

ligaments and tendons so they can't hit on the

nerves and cause you pain. This is why it is

called the cure for chronic pain. I've known

people who had frozen shoulders and such who had

no further problems after the treatment.

Dr. Hackett invented prolotherapy and Dr. Gustav

Hemwall was trained by him. I had brought him

some patients when he died in his 90's of a

stroke, still working. I remember when I first

met him he said " never call it scar tissue. The

reason people who have back surgery only get

worse is because they are trying to get a 'hold'

with scar tissue, but they cut through more

tendons and ligaments to get to the area, and

cause more problems. This creates new tissue and

mends tendons and ligaments. " In fact, I still

have the medical text he wrote on it. Dr. Ross

Hauser in Oak Park, Illinois,

www.caringmedical.com took over Dr. Hemwall's

practice after his death. Then he wrote his own

book on web. Dr. Hemwall use to say he could

cure a migraine in one treatment so I sent him

the worst patient I had ever seen with migraines

and he cured her. I miss him fondly. He was a

brilliant humanitarian and traveled the world

giving seminars and teaching physicians to cure chronic pain.

I learned about prolotherapy from a physician

here who referred me to a woman here in Atlanta

who had been bedridden for 9 years. Dr. Hemwall had cured her.

All my best,

Betty

About Frozen Shoulder

I have never had frozen Shoulder myself but I found this massage oil recipe I

received recently for treating it. 1/2 Argan oil 1/2 Pomegranate oil as the

base oil and Everlasting essential oil. I don't know the exact dilution of

Everlasting in the carrier oils or how often to apply, however this might be of

some help to you.

Hi Prue

This sounds like a good recipe,Everlasting Oil is another name for Helichrysum

oil....it is VERY expensive(crazy expensive!!!), and if you are planning on

trying this recipe, gradually add the Heli so you are only adding what you

need... " more is not always better " . Increase a couple drops at a time until you

notice relief. Heli is known to be FANTASTIC for pain and does not just " mask "

the pain but is actually helping. I have Heli but have been using just a couple

drops in my face oil (which is Squalene Oil).Heli is the best for mature skin!!

Squalene Oil to me would be the more cost effective oil to use for the noted

recipe as it is not as expensive and it penetrates deeper and more readily than

other oils.Argan trees are a protected tree now also.

As I mentioned,Squalene Oil can also be used as a face moisturizer (just drops

will do).My husband uses it on his rough hands at night. It is a natural

bactericide and healer and has been shown to have effects in the management of

dermatitis and skin cancer!!
