Hi Debby, thanks for the welcome.

I must admit that I'm a bit confused about your " letters " . I believe

(correct me if I'm wrong) that D.C. means you're a chiropractor, but I

don't know the designation QME. I hope I'm not being a doofus.

Are you a practicing acupuncturist? If so, I would appreciate any tips

you can give me for starting my own practice. I'm hoping to set up out

of my home to start, but I also want to work out of a chiropractic or

other alternative health office. Have you any suggestions as to what

sort of places I should apply to, keeping in mind that I have relatively

little practical experience?

I hope to hear from you soon.

Christine.

Hi! Christine,

The QME stands for Qualified medical examiner. I do a lot of worker's

compensation cases. I am a D.C.. I am trained in acupuncture as a post

graduate degree. I have only 200 hours in actual hands on training. I have

practiced acupuncture for 10 years in my practice. I have resorted to doing

ryodoraku and work for the type of injuries I see. I am not an acupuncturist

per se. I am a homeopath though and as a homeopath, chiropractor,

cranial/sacral therapist and little bit of acupuncture, I believe in

stimulating the vital force, chi, innate intelligence whatever you want to

call it. I am mostly interested in balancing according to the law of the

five elements. I just have to get back into it. I was never given good

classes on pulse diagnosis so for many years I used electrical equipment to

do this for me. I am a mother of 3 so, it is hard for me to get to seminars.

I was hoping to learn from this list.

As far as practicing goes, come to my town and work with me? I live in

Calif.. There is only 1 other acupuncturist in the area. I think going into

a chiropractic office is a great idea. I am not sure of your laws up there

and how the best way to set it up would be. A lot will depend on the laws

that govern a chiro's practice. Many chiro's have abandoned the theory of

stimulating the vital force of the body through an adjustment. They are what

I kindly refer to as a doc in the box(sorry). They have given up their

theory to mold to what the medical profession has wanted us to be thrown

into for a long time. I do not know of anyone in Ontario. You could check

the web site www.chiroweb.com. You can do a search for chiro's in your area.

I know a great guy in British Columbia(?). When you go and interview people

to practice with, be sure you get a feel for how they respect your

profession. Do they approach health care from the same perspective you do?

Are they open to learning? Be sure to question ethics. I have come right out

and ask someone if their billing was on the up and up. I told them I would

have nothing to do with any questionable activity. I very good prospect

turned immediately cold and we never spoke again. Now I deal with them alot

with work comp cases and see why. What a shady group.

BE SURE EVERYTHING IS IN WRITING. THE ENTIRE AGREEMENT AS TO WHAT IS

EXPECTED OF EACH OF YOU. If I have learned anything it is this. I will do it

with my best friend. It truly is a way of SAVING relationships down the

road. I am feeling the consequences now of 2 incidence I didn't put things

on writing. I have been to an attorney and I have enough evidence to support

myself but still I have to confront it. It is stressful, costly and I have

animosity with someone in my community. The other people have just come back

and apologized and asked to make restitution with me. Praise God for that

one. hope this helps. E-mail back with anything else.

Jasmine,

I was wondering what school you are attending for acupuncture, and your

opinion on it?

I'll be at Tri-state in New York in sept(hopefully) and just wanted someone's

feedback about the program, in general.

Thanks

Hi Lauren. I live in California and am going to Samra University. It is the

oldest and one of the largest acupuncture schools in the country. They have

an on-site clinic that stocks over 400 Chinese Herbs. I am originally from NY

and am curious to know if your school is located in Manhattan.

The acupuncture program I am taking is a 3-4 year program and upon graduation,

you receive a Masters in Oriental Medicine and can then take the boards to

become licensed in Acupuncture. Does your school offer an internship program?

How many hours is it in total? Mine is about 900 hours of clinical time and

1600 hours of classroom time. The program is great! You will learn so much.

Dont worry if you feel overwhelmed at first; some of the info. you will be

learning may seem difficult to grasp because concepts of are

so different from what we are taught in regular schools. But, dont worry,

you'll be studying just as much, if not more!! It's worth it, though. Have

you already attended college and if so, did you take any courses in anatomy

and physiology? People who never took such courses are having a hard time at

my school, so keep that in mind!

If you have any other questions or comments, please write back!

Jasmine

Hello, and I apologize for taking so long for a reply...haven't been on line

in a while:)

But Yes, the school is located in Manhattan, and is called the Tri State

Institute of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture. It's a total of 3 years for the

program, with about 1200 hours of work (including observation with a trained

acupuncturist)And upon graduation, receive a master's level diploma in

Acupuncture.I believe there is a separate 2 year program that specializes in

Herbs. I'm attending college now, and have taken Biology, and now am studying

Anatomy and Physiology. Both of which I find fascinating...But of course I'm

kinda nervous about all the things I will be doing at Tri State(especially

trying to figure out how I'm going to pay for it:)

Good luck in Cali, and keep me posted on how thing are going!!

PS- I was also wondering if anyone who is on this list has attended Tri

Dear Gloria,

Not too much at all. Thank you for your response. I especially appreciated

your thoughts on how to determine who you will use this therapy with. I have

had clients with mental health problems. Some who commit to taking some

responsibility, however, end up just coming for a " feel good " session and

don't actually want to do the work. It is sometimes hard for me to decide

whether or not to continue working with them.

thanks again,

Stacy

Hello Berlee

Most of my people have the label of Schizophrenia. The paranoia

would constitute some difficulties with Healing Touch unless there was a

bond between the therapist and the client. This would only develop over

time and in our program, individuals are in for the long haul.

The process you describe would make anyone paranoid!!

Unfortunately, there are no easy answers here either. The system

perpetuates keeping clients in an " illness " model.

Good Luck! Is there any Support Groups in your area who would help

you out? Unfortunately, most of them to the Medical Model. I

would suggest reading a book by Peter Breggin called " Toxic Psyciatry " . He

is a Psychiatrist and has a web site. They will also answer questions of

people who write in. Give him a try.

Hi everyone, my name is Debra, I am 43 and live in the Dallas, Texas area. I am

very interested in energy work or healing hands. I seem to have a natural

ability to do this but I have not had anyone to guide me. I did try once to do

healing work without touching and it worked. I did read a book once about it

that was very informative. I am interested in learning as much as I can.

Thanks, Debra

Diane, have you learned how to reframe your inner dialog, so that you

can create positive affirmations from your negative voices? It is so

important to feed yourself the " good food " of compliments and

reinforcement when you are undergoing therapy.

It is also vital to realize that ALL EMOTIONS ARE GOOD. We tend to

have judgement about emotions, thinking that things like joy, and

love, and happiness are all good, and that sadness, anger, etc are

bad. Well, newsflash, people, we have to get real with ourselves; we

are not made of spun sugar and candle wax... sometimes we have to

experience the dips as well as the swells.

Know too that you can fake laugh just like you can fake cry; in " 12

stepping " that is called " Fake it 'til you make it " and it is very

effective in personal mood and attitude. If you want to feel up, then

dress " up " ... shed the dark colors, get the hair out of your eyes,

stop trying to emulate Marilyn Manson and lose the black nail polish

;-) Take a firm hand with your environment, so that it is clean and

uncluttered, but still soft and inviting for you.

Here's another one for you... ignorance is not knowing any better;

stupidity is knowing better but not acting on it. If you take a

careful look at yourself, I'll bet you will see more ignorance than

stupidity, eh? And ignorance can be taken care of, with awareness and

education. So now you know better, you can tell that voice you ain't

stupid, because you have learned you don't have to listen to it

anymore. We are *all* ignorant of many things... that's our job, to

learn!

Good luck with your progress along your path :-)

I appreicate your words. Ive come a long way ,but ive got along way to go

But my Spirit isnt about logic. Its about what is in my heart and Soul.

I need to ask you Crow or any one else...I can not connect any postive,

I feel like I am one of the few people that wishes there was no such thing as

Di:

This last post of yours disturbs me on several levels; for one thing,

I am wondering if you can see the correlation between your rejection

of your sexual feelings and your lack of connection with your body

functions? This is a very important connection for you to explore; the

energy that facilitates procreation and reproduction is also the same

useful energy that fuels our creativity and our will to survive.

It is vital that you befriend your personal energy and your body; no

matter what your history, no matter what your memories, you are not

living in the past, but in the present, and in the present your body

is not supporting you because you are not fully living in it.

I am not normally so forceful with my responses to folks here but your

posts appear to be more than a litany of complaints, rather more like

a cry for help... and honestly, that help will primarily have to arise

from inside your being. As a whole being, do not forget that you must

not avoid your physical being in a misguided attempt to enhance your

spiritual or intellectual growth; an imbalance will not serve your

progress. As a soul you chose to be in a body, and as your temple, it

can teach you many lessons in patience, unconditionality and service.

It is not perfect, but it is beautiful because it is your home while

you are alive.

Sexual energy is a good and natural method for beings like us to

reproduce ourselves. Like all good things, it can be perverted,

damaged, or misused, but that does not impinge upon its inherent

goodness. Even if you chose not to have children, or even decided to

be celibate, this energy is a powerful force for motivation and

productivity... we give birth to ideas, art, movements...

possibilities! I would suggest you purchase a book on the energetic

body and the chakras, and pay close attention to the lower three

chakras, the root, the sacral, and the solar plexus. These areas focus

more directly with the physical than the upper chakras and would seem

to be what you need to focus on right now. If you check the archives

for you can find information about each of these chakras by

searching for " Root " , " Sacral " and " Solar Plexus " . Even if energy

centers are not within your philosophical mindset, the developmental

lessons of the chakras correlate with Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, and

show us how we progress from task to task in development. No stage is

superfluous.

You can choose not to accept that you need and want sexual feelings;

you are free to decide to do anything you want. However, you are not

doing yourself or anyone else a service by behaving reactively instead

of proactively to your negative feelings. Repression can result in

myriad other problems, including emotional and physical symptoms. I

find it interesting that your moniker is " Redtail " . Red is an

important color for grounding and connection to the root chakra, your

base to communicate with the earth. There is nothing dirty about you

or your feelings. Your body is your friend, and if it doesn't appear

to be cooperating with you, perhaps it is because you are not

communicating clearly with it... maybe you've " got your wires crossed "

and something is shorting out... maybe you're not grounding your

energy properly?

I cannot diagnose you, obviously. But keep your mind open, and if your

therapist is not addressing this issue of abuse with you and you are

ready to deal with it, I think you should honor that and find someone

who can help you process your feelings.

When you feel a bit more comfortable here, perhaps you will be a bit more

who can offer you advice if they know a bit more about your situation.

Dear Florie Gray: Thank you for caring first of all. I have Idiopathic

Electrical Malfunction that results in Sudden Cardiac Death episodes. I have

clinically 'died' seven times and was implanted with an automatic

implantable pacer cardioverter defibrillator. I have received 155 shocks to

date and have begun my 'bradydown' period so the pacemaker has delivered at

last count 141 paces. That was 3 mos ago and I'm due to be downloaded again

soon. Basically my heart shorts and I go into V-Tach or in my case V-Fib

immediately. Why? Well there is the problem, no one knows why. I have gone

through multiple near death experiences and now seem to be experiencing out

of body ones when my heart slows to a stop (prior the pacemaker pacing.) I'm

have been searching for the spiritual guidance and now is the time for me to

expand my knowledge once again. Thus my joining this group.

Any help you could give me, would be greatly appreciated during this

journey. Love, Jeannie

Dear Jeannie;

I don't even know where to begin...

The challenge that you face each day is inconceivable to me. I cannot begin

to relate to it, and can only marvel at the grace with which you accept it.

You must be a remarkably strong individual!

I think it's important for you to know that many members of this list are

experienced bodyworkers and practitioners of complementary/alternative

therapies, many with a great deal of medical training. They are all quite

talented; more importantly, they are all extremely responsible in the advice

and suggestions that they give to others. You will receive the spiritual

guidance you've requested--probably as many different suggestions as there

are people on the list...every one worth exploring, too!

If, at any time in the future, you would like to share your perceptions of

your near-death experiences, I'm sure that many people would be very

interested in reading about them. I know that I would be extremely curious

about your sensations and emotions at that time. Sorry to pry--if it's a

sensitive subject, by all means stay away from it. However, if it was a

comfort to you, perhaps the sharing would bring comfort to others as well.

Either way, you've come to the right place--for answers *and* questions.

My best,

Florie

Dear Victor,

Welcome to the list.

You can post your problems directly to the list and many (including me ;o) will offer you advice on how to handle your condition (IE. The place to start on your high BP is with a dramatic increase in your fresh raw organic garlic intake).

Major cleansing is also indicated.

Best regards,

Doc

My name is Victor and I live currently in south middle TN (the Columbia area). I am looking for a doctor of natural medicine around the area, if anyone knows of any. I am a 37 year old white male and frankly, I am overweight with HBP and the MDs here haven't done me much good. Their prescriptions make me feel worse than the symptoms.Anyway just a quick hello,Victor
