search on chronic fatique syndrome, leaky gut and candida

overgrowth. not saying you have those but i trust you will uncover a

good deal of related info in those areas...

Do you sometimes fall asleep without warning?

Sit down in a chair, open your eyes, only to find a hour or two have passed.

Is it cyclical?

Your feeling ok for a while ( a day or just feeling good thru the mourning)

then it's like someone flips a switch and turns off your energy supply?

When it goes on long enough, eventually the doctors throw up their hands and

render a diagnosis of " chronic fatigue syndrome " or something like it.

That's really most of what they have to offer.

I'm somewhat surprised that no thyroid function tests have been ordered. At

least it's a good idea to rule that out. When the thryoid is down, it gets

a little tricky, and knowing precisely the nature of the situation is important.

Through my previous experience as an environmental consultant, i found that

many homes and offices are spewing out all sorts of things that can cause

this kind of fatigue. In Germany, there is now a widespread network of

private practitioners who specialize in this, and they are very effective.

Finding such a professional in your area would be a good idea. There is a

web site that lists many North American practitioners, which you can get

from me privately, off the list.

I've only just fallen asleep like that once or twice, and those were times that I was extremely tired and should have been in bed long ago.

I've recently noticed that a few times a week I'll feel nice and energetic, but that is for the morning and tapers off at around 4 pm. It is like you said, someone flipped a switch on my energy. (great description, btw)

This sounds like the same thing that I've had. Mine started after I got E.Coli.

March of 99. The Dr. I went to had me on Cipro for 3 1/2 months. He also

said that

from his experience that it took people 2-5 years to get over the effects

of it.

I said yeah right..............

There was one week that I slept for 5 days. I layed down A Saturday around

1:30 pm and didn't wake up until11:00 am the next day. I was awake for just

long enough to eat and went back to sleep.Woke up a little after 9:00pm took

a shower and ate. Was back asleep by 10:30. This went on until Thursday I woke

up around 10:00 am and didn't go back to sleep until that night.

But ever so often I'd sit down in my chair, then I'd wake up and 2-3 hours

had passed.

And I never remembered going to sleep. My dog was usually the one waking me up.

I never could find anything that helped. The truth is I was too tired to

care or think.

But it seemed that I was slowly getting better.

The energy days were becoming more then lack of energy day's. I read the

" Nutritional Approach to Beating Candidiasis " that I sent to the list today.

I read it back in November. Which was about the same time I joined the list.

I got on the net and ordered in Pau D'Arco Tea and started taking it.

I took it for 3 days and I started to feel better. I am now back up to

running speed.

I've been taking it everyday since.

It is very nice to have energy again. My wife said that she could tell a

difference after I

took the stuff for a week.

If you decide to try it email me off list I know a good source for it.

Nortina...

Fatigue could be representative of many things. My suggestion is to check out the website www. aaem.com, click on Referable Physicians and punch in where you live. Try to find someone that is reachable to you. Thyroid problems are usually one of the first areas a physician will and should check.....(which is necessary) but there are numerous causes.... so you need someone who has experience dealing with fatigue as a major symptom...as well as someone who believes in natural medicine principles. I wish you much good luck! Beth :)

Hello everyone.

I've been on this list for awhile, but like many, am not much more than a lurker. My name is Nortina, I have a problem with fatigue and it's been affecting my life so much that I just can't handle it anymore. Tonight was the clincher for me. I feel asleep after bringing my children (twin girls, 3 years) home from dance class. They got their own snack, put their own pyjamas on and put a movie on and went to bed by themselves. All because I was too busy passed out on the couch to do anything for them.

I think that I may be pregnant right now, but I know that is not what is causing me to feel this way since it's been well over two years of constant fatigue and taking naps (at least one) every day just to get through the day. Sometimes I work only a 4 1/ 2 hour shift and will take a nap for my 15 min. break.

Two nights in a row this past week I went to sleep when my kids did (actually, I fell asleep before them) which is about 8:30 pm and didn't wake up until 9 am. I still felt tired and could barely make it through the day. I've tried sleeping less, that doesn't help. I do try to eat healthy foods and I love to exercise, though most times I don't get around to it because I don't have the energy to start in the first place.

I am 21 years old, and I feel so old right now :) I've got to two different doctors, they don't even take me seriously and just say I must not be sleeping enough. I got blood tests taken, only at my insistence, and was told that everything "looked fine". I am sick of feeling this way, and was hoping that there could be some help found here.

Many thanks,

nortina

Having been diagnosed with CFS myself, many years ago, I can relate.

Mine started after the birth of my second child (my second

ceasarian). The doctors were useless. In fact, that is how I began

studying alternative health and nutrition. I used a lot of

supplements, which did help, because at the time I didn't know what

else to do. Some things that I have found helpful now (after more

study :-) are brewer's yeast (2 T. in a glass of organic, unfiltered

apple juice tastes great), eating about 6 small meals a day & be sure

to include enough protein, apple cider vinegar (unfiltered) and raw

honey {mix 1 tsp. of each in a glass of water three times a day and

drink - doesn't taste bad}, lots of fresh, raw fruits & veges

(organic if possible, but don't NOT eat them if you can't get

organic), whole grains (slow cooked on a low heat) and of course a

good cleanse is in order. The bowel not functioning can be a MAJOR

source of fatigue.

Wishing you health,

Nancy

Fatigue can be for a variety of reasons but I would have to say in general

to do a good bowel cleanse (total body cleanse is highly needed) and go on a

organic fresh juice fast to help in the cleansing. 7 to 14 days is needed

for the fast.

Hi Robin! I think you're right to investigate the causes of your low energy.

Check red blood cells, hemoglobin, as possibly being low. I've been treated,

over some years, with Chinese herbal medicines (not recently, though). A

primary symptom I had, as with others in my group, was fatigue. It worked very

well for me. Blood building formulas, ginseng (there are different types of

ginseng), immune modulating fungi & herbs, and in our cases, antiviral herbs,

were fairly effective for us. Learning the root of the fatigue is important,

and a doctor of Chinese medicine can diagnose (from their perspective: which can

seem really odd to Westerners). Western lab tests are compatible with

traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis, and is worthwhile--but lab tests won't

give you all the answers, necessarily. Ginseng needs to be used judiciously, as

if you have an infection, it can become worse, receiving the energy of the

ginseng. I've found, too, that if I have an overgrowth of bacteria/yeast in my

gut, taking ginseng seems to result in gas. If all is well, ginseng really can

give a boost. I find the best way to buy it (prices seem astronomical) is to

get the finely chopped root, measured at about $20.00 worth, which lasts me a

month. $120.00/ounce then seems not so outrageous. Do check out the cause of

your fatigue, and maybe consider a doctor of T.C.M. Good luck! Steve

Fatigue

At my GP's appointment what would the team suggest I ask him to check?

I was thinking of a wide spectrum blood test, but of what? I do not have an

under active thyroid.

I had written to him thus:

" For most of my life I have not had bouncy energy and lack drive. I have

low energy reserves. I tend to retreat into doing things that I can do,

because of the lack of energy to tackle new things.

Ginseng is renowned as an energy booster that counters fatigue, but I do

not wish to take it until I have eliminated any known reasons for a low

energy levels. Is there someone you can refer me to who will carry out a

chemical investigation. I do not want a psychology type treatment, nor do

I want mind bending drugs such as prosaic. I think it is dangerous "

I am in my mid 50s. In good health. No current illnesses other than

slightly elevated Cholesterol.

My GP wrote in reply:

" Tiredness is a non specific symptom so it is hard to know what to suggest.

I am sure that I ought to see you first to examine you and we can decide

where to go from there. "

I am to see him early next week.

Respected members,

I would be very grateful to you for your opinion on this matter.

The problem: For the past 3 months, when I wake up in the morning I

feel very tired. It is as if somebody woke me up in the middle of the

night. I feel very drowsy, and can get up with difficulty even after

10-12 hours of sleep. The drowsiness lasts till 5-6 pm every day. In

fact, by 6 pm I feel that I should go to bed, but I cannot because I

am in my lab. In the evening I almost always feel warmer, and my

temperature is about 99.0-99.2 at this time. (may be this is normal,

but in general i feel also as if I had fever). I go to sleep by 12 at

night.

About my diet: I take a glass of milk in the morning, usually with

chocolate mix. (morning means about 10:30 am....I wake up with

difficulty by ten). By 1 o'clock, I have a cup of tea with some snacks.

I have lunch by 4p.m. ( i had to adopt this schedule so that I can go

home have lunch). Then I have dinner at 8-8:30 p.m.

I don't like junk food, but do sometimes succumb to cake. Other than

that, I have home-cooked vegetarian food. I suspected iron deficiency

because of the fatigue, so I try to incorporate chhole, rajma and daal

in my diet, which i usually cook with a little ghee. I am also fond of

greens, like mustard, spinach, raddish greens etc which i cook in

mustard oil. I avoid vegetable oil as much as possible. Also no fried

foods or sweets. Having completely home-cooked food has solved my

problem of constipation and bloating, which I also suffered from off

and on.

I am not sure about my body type, but I think kapha dosha

predominates. I am calm and peaceful in nature, and don't lose my

temper easily. I also have a tendency to put on weight, especially in

the abdominal area. Fond of mostly salty snacks, and achar etc. Also

love bitter foods like karela. Sometimes can get very stressed out. In

the past year I suffered repeatedly from constipation and bloating. I

am suffering from rheumatoid arthritis since 5 years, for which I have

to take allopathic medication- Disease modifying drugs, no NSAIDs.

also 2mg (very small dose) of prednisone. I cannot go without these

medicines for even a day. In fact, There is a direct correlation

between the lowering of the dose in January, and my feeling tired and

sluggish. I talked to my doctor about it, but he wasn't very helpful.

I even had spells of feeling faint and dizzy in the beginning. My

blood tests are all normal. I am single, female, and 27 years of age,

based in the US, a student, and unable to spend any more than I

already do on the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, which is at one

of the best hospitals here. Also, I believe more in attacking the root

of the problem, hence I am turning to Ayurveda.

I am sorry if the account was too long, but I felt that you should

know all the details and medical history. I saw the file on '8 day

detox program', and was wondering if it would be helpful. But it would

be extremely difficult for me to stop my medication for 8 days.

May be i am a hypochondriac, but even people around me constantly tell

me these days that I look pale and tired. Please help me. I don't want

to take any more allopathic medicines than I already do.

Have you tried going to bed about 10 pm, waking at 6 am and getting up soon

after, meditating for a while and doing some hatha yoga, stretching and

pranayam after a few glasses of pure water.

Taking a little fresh fruit and some green tea or chai without milk for

breakfast around 8 am and then drinking a further 6 or 7 glasses of quality

water throughout the day - even starting in this direction you would feel

more alive and vibrant unless you have some serious underlying pathology.

The more vital and alive the diet the more vital and alive the consumer.

At your age you also need exercise as well as the hatha routine - and

walking in the fresh air, if any is to be found close to where you live or

work.

Best,

Jane

Hi,

Thanks for your replies.

I do believe I follow a healthy lifestyle, much more than many people

my age. I am not particularly stressed out either. I do meditation

whenever possible. I have warm water, no cold water or ice cream etc.

I already said I don't eat junk food.

My concern is that I may be suffering from low grade fever. For about

a 2 weeks I felt feverish, but my temperature would never be more than

99.2 F. I don't get good sleep at night. Its not like I can't fall

asleep, more like I probably don't fall into deep sleep. I think that

what I am experiencing is not normal. Especially since this has been

going on for the past 3 months. I feel tired and sleepy all day long

in spite of getting more than 10 hrs of sleep a day. Surely this is

not because of what time I have my lunch?? And believe me I have tried

other times, but due to factors out of my control, it is not possible

for me to change my current timings.

I don't want to go to doctors because I don't want to be put on

antibiotics or any more symptomatic medicines. My concern is that the

arthritis medicines might have caused some toxicity in my body. I also

have some congestion. Anyways, I will try to follow the advice given

by members here, but I don't have much hope since I have already tried

most of the things here.

Dear Alpana,

If your temperature stays at 99.2 then you may be suffering from some toxins

in the body.It could also be due to a mild viral or bacterial infection.

Some medicines have this effect of increasing acidity of blood which could

lead to warm body.

Try using rice kanji ( rice boiled in excess water with salt and cinnamon

pwder and then mashed)

Fry cumin seeds in ghee and add this kanji to it.

Take it thrice a day.

Stay away from wheat and other eatables.

It may also be good that you try to take rest and let the body recover.

Guduchi kashaya will also be good for you.

All the best,

Shruti.
