Guest guest
From an Ayurvedic stand point what do you think of allergy shots? I've seen an Ayurvedic practioner, and was pleased. However Dr. Joshi recommended pancha karma---at his facilities he didn't provide housing. So during the process I would've had to stay in a motel. I have what is called Environmental Illness, which has created an autoimmune disorder similar to M.S. Knowing something about Ayurveda, this is a Vata disorder. MY symptoms are worse when I'm exposed to chemicals and certain foods. I react to many that are ok for vata. I've cleaned up my environment [its chemical free etc] and I eat for my dosha probably 60% of the time, but still I need to detox. I just returned from the Environmental Health Center of Dallas--where they did sauna treatments and massages. BUT now they want me to have a series of allergy testing--and I'm not sure I believe allergy shots would be that beneficial. I feel pancha karma would be the way to go, but I can't stay in a motel or even some of the other facilities because of my reactions to chemicals and many natural fragrances. Therefore I'm asking, would it be safe to attempt pancha karma at home, on my own? I see a massage therapist once a week and I'm thinking about purchasing an infra red sauna....which could perhaps assist during PK? Also what do you think about allergy shots? Guest guest
Sherri, Do you know of Dr. Steven Levine's work? It sounds like you should be on high amount of anti-oxidants including Amrit kalash as well as vitamin and mineral antioxidants. That might help you be able to take better advantage of pancha karma in the future. Also, do you know about NAET? Have you considered it? Where are you located? Guest guest
Hi there, and thank you for your reply. Yes I've heard of NAET--but at the moment where I live I'm not sure anyone is doing this. I live in West Texas. I believe there are practioners in Austin, but that's 300 miles from where I am. Do you personally know of anyone who's had the treatments? Also in your opinion and anyone else who cares to reply--what causes such reactions to one's environment? According to the Western Doctors treating what they refer to as Environmental Illness, we that are suseptible are lacking a particular gene that assists in the detoxing process. Which could make sense, but because I'm knowledgable about Ayurveda, I'm thinking there's another explanation. Another curious thing is the fact the majority of those suffering are women, because often this malady results in autoimmune disorders, which is more often than not a woman's disease....Any light you could shed on the subject I'd appreciate. Thanks. Sherri ayurveda , " David " <freeradicalfederation wrote: <snip> > Also, do you know about NAET? Have you considered it? Thanks. hi sherri there is no way anyone can reliably give you specific information you can use via the internet - you should find a practitioner to help you in the states, see: www.americanherbalistsguild.com if you were my patient, i would probably eliminate any processed or refined foods, as well as foods that have been altered by industrial processes such as pasteurized/homogenized dairy and feedlot meat, and have you eat only pesticide/GMO-free food products i would then look at your ancestry and examine their dietary influences, and compare these against your current diet, removing those which are unsuitable - if this isn't perfectly clear (because you don't know or you are of mixed descent) then i would proceed to logically eliminate the most common food allergens from your diet, including dairy, gluten, eggs, peanuts, soy, citrus etc. (i usually do this anyway, as a default), as well as non-food substances such as alcohol, coffee, tobacco, cannabis, NSAIDs and steroids (the latter must be weaned slowly) i would then direct my attention your digestion and the processes of detoxification leaky guts need to be fixed, the ecology restored and the digestive organs properly stimulated this brings the 'heat' back home, back to digestive tract instead of in your skin, joints or wherever a key component of this is working with the liver to balance pitta, or bile i use herbs to support and balance the heat in the liver, which helps to restore phase II detoxification, eliminating the production of reactive metabolites (as pittasama, the toxic bile that incites the autoimmune response) produced by phase I reactions key herbs for this are amla, guduchi, turmeric, milk thistle, licorice, bhumyamalaki, dan shen (salvia), wu wei zi (schizandra) and huang qin (scute root), along with important supplements like N- acetyl cystiene and alpha lipoic acid (as antioxidants), omega 3 fatty acids (to balance inflammation and nourish the body), and vitamin D3; i typically would add other herbs as i see appropriate, working on the blood, nervous system, mucus membranes, adrenals etc - all this can be understood according to tridosha, but i am putting it in western terms you can understand lifestyle measures of course also need to be undertaken as well - this is called dinacharya, the daily regimen, which i would customize for your needs, including factors such as regular exercise and meditation, providing the basis for the firm disciple and commitment required to take back your health a retreat (or ashram) in a natural environment where you could do all this would be ideal, but if not, then setting up your current life so that you can maximize attention to your health your house and home should be free of all industrial products, using natural materials such as wood, stone animal and plant fibers: paints, carpets, and other synthetic building materials all place a toxic load on your system and should be avoided - that you are reactive to them and others are not speaks to their insensitivities just as much to your hyper-sensitivities good luck! best... Guest guest
I certaqinly think you can do a lot with yoga breathing, some herbs to cleanse the liver - goduchi, milk thistle, nettle, snehana - oil and sweat therapy would probably help a lot - i do think though that you should not atempt all of this alone, but should do all under the guidance of a qualified practitioner. I would caution you to do this with good support but am sure it will help you --- sherri_jax <sherri_jax wrote: > From an Ayurvedic stand point what do you think of > allergy shots?<snip>
