Hello-

I’m new here and am very interested

in this issue. Following is a message I sent to several other health-related

last week. Check it out. I don’t know what I will do without

supplements. I have Lyme disease and mercury toxicity and have relied heavily

on supplements for the last 18 years.

Regards,

Dana B.

Hello

All-

First

a question: What would you do if you no longer had access to alpha lipoic acid?

Or Samento? Or vitamin C in doses larger than 500 mg?

Or whole food forms of nutrients? Or effective forms of minerals such as

selenium or magnesium? I know from reading messages from our various groups

(related to both Lyme disease and chelation as well as for those taking

supplements for general health) that most of us take some form of nutritional

supplements -- vitamins, minerals, herbs, etc. In 1994 the US Congress enacted

the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), which

protected our access to and use of dietary supplements. We have enjoyed over 10

years of " health freedom " as a result. I, for one, have been very

grateful for this.

Unfortunately,

today there is a world wide effort to undermine our access to these substances

from which most of us derive so much benefit. Because of our (US)

membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO), we will be forced to go along

with (harmonize) whatever the " world community " decides on the

supplement issue. Many of us believe that our US

laws will override these international regulations, but because of

international trade agreements, we will be forced to go along or face very

stiff trade sanctions.

The

regulations being proposed in the European Union (the EU has 17 WTO votes vs.

one vote for the US)

address what is referred to as " safe upper limits " for supplements.

These limits end up being very small amounts of allowable substances (many would

be not much more than the recommended dietary allowances (RDA), which is

usually only the amount needed to prevent overt

disease). And the experts have estimated that if these regulations become law,

we will lose access to approximately 75% of the supplements we have access to

today, including the greatest share (if not all) of the most effective,

innovative supplements. In addition, we will have access to only those

supplements on the " allowable " list. If it's not on the list, it goes

away.

Along

with the international actions currently afoot relating to supplements, our own

FDA is moving to seriously weaken our DSHEA law. This could have the same

effect in the US

as the EU regulations will have world wide.

In

trying to be brief here, I have only touched on this subject, but as you might

imagine there is much information on the Internet. Also, many well known

alternative doctors are in support of efforts to protect our access to

supplements: Jonathan Wright, MD, Steven Levine, PhD (of Allergy Research Group/Nutricology),

Dr. Joseph Mercola, Jeffrey Bland, PhD, Alan Gaby, MD, Citizens

for Health, and many more. . .

Following

are some links from which you can learn more, as well as finding out what you

can do to support US and international efforts currently underway to protect

our health freedom:

Citizens for Health is

promoting efforts to reign in the FDA on this issue. On their site you can sign

a letter to the FDA voicing concerns over their proposed actions: http://www.citizens.org/

Alliance

for Natural Health is a UK

organization which has initiated a lawsuit in the EU courts, which would go a

very long way to protecting our access to supplements. Experts on this issue

believe the ANHs lawsuit has a good chance of success, but they do need

financial help. Their site contains much information on this topic. The lawsuit

is due to be heard on January 25th, so we don't have much time on this. You can

make a donation on ANHs site, and even $5 would help. Just stop and imagine

having very little access to supplements; how much would you pay to have them

back? http://www.alliance-natural-health.org/

Here's

a link to a very informative video on this subject which can be viewed online: http://www.glycommunity.com/iahf/

And finally the site of John C. Hammell, President

of International Advocates for Health Freedom (IAHF).

John is a " one man band " who has been working tirelessly for years world wide to help protect our supplement access. He

gets a bit " over the edge " on this at times, but he is a great

resource for all that's happening on this issue: http://www.iahf.com/

Please,

if this issue is important to you, do what you can to help us all with this

issue, and also, please forward this to anyone you know who might be

interested, as well. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Dana

Black

I sent letters to all the officials in NH and even to the President himself. I

also sent the message on to all my family and friends to get them involved.

Hi everyone...

I just finished making my phone calls to support and oppose these

bills, and it turns out that- my officials at least- have NOT had a

lot of phone calls about these issues! Please make sure to take the

time to voice your opinion... If you need help finding contact

information for your officals please see the links below...
