Trepke http://www..com HOW TO PREPARE YOUR PET FOR THE COLD http://www.organicstyle.com/archives/home_winterpetcare.html Adapted from New Choices in Natural Healing for Dogs and Cats, by Amy D. Shojai and the Editors of Prevention Pets (Rodale, 1999). Cold weather is just around the corner, and our beloved pets will soon be affected by it. Here are three simple ways to start preparing your cat or dog for the cold now, to prevent health problems and discomfort later on. 1. Supplement with fatty acids. In order to maintain a thick, protective coat, dogs and cats need to get fatty acids in their diet. Start giving fatty-acid supplements, available in pet supply stores, toward the end of summer, which will cause the coat to grow in a bit thicker for the cold months. It's not too late to start supplementation now! 2. Give your pet extra calories. Pets that spend time outside need extra calories in the cold months. Add some flaxseed oil or olive oil to her food. Dogs over 50 pounds can have a tablespoon per day. Anything smaller can have a teaspoon of oil. 3. Prepare your pet slowly. Take your pet outside for short periods at first to give him time to get used to the cold. ===== Fidyl Live Simply So That Others May Simply Live Yoga-With-Nancy-SoFla/ SignSoFla/ SoFlaVegans/ SoFlaSchools/
