Guest guest Report post Posted May 7, 2010 PRIYA BHAGAVAT BANDUVULLARA! VOICE OF THE RISHIS: 36 COURTEY SHRI RAPARLA JANARDHANA RAO KEERTI MRIDDHIN DADAATUME SREE SOOKTAM " Let us be glorious more and more " is the imploration to Goddess Laxmi given in the holy text " stree sooktam " . This text contains several verses to Goddess Laxmi, the cohort of Sree Mahavishnu. People in want and poverty who do not attain any status in` society who prod on their lives without any recognition, if chant the verses in Sree sooktam obtain in return the riches of the world and also status. This verse relates to " Keerti " or name and fame. The devotee prays to the Goddess, to enhance his fame (Keerti vriddhim dadaatume). Man needs recognition in the society or in modern terms it is called " social validation " for the mental health, promotion of self confidence or self esteem. This requirement states that fame also is needed. Hence the prayer to become more and more popular ascending the ladder of success and social recognition is significant. Popularity (or keerti) is not an easy one to be obtained. It is the net result of several good qualities like honesty, compassion, selflessness, bravery, hard work and other good qualities. This verse also reminds us to be wary of doing anything that makes man lose his popularity. By doing great desirable social acts only, man becomes famous. To enhance his fame he should strive more and more to help others and to help himself, by tightening the belt. He should also desist from doing anti-social acts if he desires to increase his name day by day.
