Guest guest
Sai Ram All, I am, currently, recovering from a recent surgical procedure (3 weeks ago). However, I was blessed to attend the Walk for Values (USA), in New York City, on June 22nd, 2008, even though I could not actively participate. As many of you already know, this event was NOT a fund-raiser, protest, or demonstration. The purpose of the “Walk” was to draw attention to the need for all people to commit to the practice of the core universal Human Values: Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Love, and Nonviolence. The event was absolutely, beautiful!! The Walk was based in Battery Park, in lower Manhattan. Participants were asked to choose one value (Love, Nonviolence, Peace, etc.) and commit to practicing the value in their daily lives. “Sai extended” a lovely blessing to my sister, Audrey, when organizers asked that she sing the National Anthem, at the start of the Walk. A group of Swami's young people composed and sang a beautiful theme song, and the Walk began. I believe they walked 1.4 miles, carrying beautifully made signs with inspiring messages which incorporated the 5 universal Human Values. The walk took them around what has become known as " Ground Zero " ; the former site of the World Trade Center; where so many lost their lives during the terrible events of " 9-11-01 " , and back to Battery Park. Upon the return of the participants, we enjoyed additional cultural programs/performances, and shared lunch, provided by devotees. My medical condition, unfortunately, dictated that I remain in the park, during the Walk. I, however, felt so blessed to be there. In fact, I felt enveloped in Sai's beautiful, loving energy. And the sight of so many people making a commitment to change this world, by changing themselves was magnificent. The occasion reminded me of the touching and inspiring lyrics to one of Michael Jackson's songs, MAN IN THE MIRROR: " I'm starting with the man in the mirror I'm asking him to change his ways And no message could have been any clearer If you wanna make the world a better place Take a look at yourself, and then make a change " Jai Sai Ram my brothers and sisters, April Bailey www.thebaileysisters.com
