Guest guest
I pass this on. -Achyut ************************************************ Aum Amriteshwaryai Namah Dear Ones, This email is to bring to your attention a peculiar disease that is spreading rapidly amongst Amma's children at AIMS and other ashram centers and institutions. It is a contagious disease, a real epidemic. Its origin is somewhere in the United States—I think, in California, around the Mata Amritanandamayi Center. You may wonder what this serious disease is. I will tell you. It is known as Obsessive Psycho Abbreviation (OPA) or Omitting Namah Sivaya Syndrome (ONSS). The victims of this disease will have a strong tendency to abbreviate all spiritual terms. Recently, I had an encounter with such a patient. At the end of an email, this person put her name and then signed off " IAS. " I couldn't figure out what it meant. Eventually, I called her for clarification. To my utter shock, I discovered " IAS " stood for " In Amma's Service. " I helped her to understand the adharma of her actions and she immediately discontinued the practice. Basically, I told her that, by not writing out " In Amma's Service, " she was denying the person to whom she was writing an opportunity to remember the selfless service of Amma and, thereby, a chance to contemplate and meditate upon the age-old value-system of compassionately serving the poor and needy, for which Amma is a living example. Dear brothers and sisters, have you ever thought of the consequences of this mistake many of you are committing either consciously or unconsciously? I could not be more serious when I say that the consequences are grave. Let me explain: 1. You completely disregard the fact that " Aum Namah Sivaya " is the sacred mantra that our most beloved Amma—our God and Satguru—constantly utters. Thus, you disrespect the mantra as well as Amma. Is there any day in Amma's life, when She doesn't sing 'Aum Namah Sivaya' during bhajans, no matter She is in India or abroad? 2. When you fail to write the mantra fully, you are committing a sin by not allowing the recipient of your mail to remember and repeat the powerful Panchakshari Mantra, which would help him or her in their material and spiritual lives. 3. Worst of all, as Amma's devotee/disciple, you are becoming instrumental in spreading an adharmic message to other members of society and thus are bringing down the reputation of Amma and Her esteemed organization. I am sure you understand my concerns, will take them seriously and do the needful to correct the situation. In Amma's Infinite Love & Light, With Prayers, Swami Amritaswarupananda Aum Amriteshwaryai Namah In Amma's Compassion, With Love and Prayers, Swami Amritaswarupananda
Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya, We use the term ONS on this list, and I will be the one to take resposibility for this phenomina possibly beginning from the Ammachi . I was asked to explain the origin of ONS. Babaji is speaking to several people through email, and He is singing off His name as ONS. This particular mantra is Babaji's name, and this is why it was perpetuated. Guest guest
Good to know that Big Swami is so concerned about the children's actions. As it should be. There once was a yogi who came to see Amma in the ashram. He pushed everyone aside as he strode up front to see her. Then he sat down next to her on her asana and put his arm around her. Beloved Amma giggled. Ask that Big Swami to tell his story about this particular yogi. He used to reside near Pathanamthitta. Let him tell his story about meeting this yogi in the ashram. Guest guest
If you spent most of your time on tour with Amma and giving satsang, it's conceivable you'd be out of touch with the serious problems of the world. Amma recommends for 'sadhaks' not to watch the news (distraction, depressant). Besides, things are changing so fast, he'd have to watch a lot of TV or other internet news source to keep up. I just found out that TomKat might be separating. Wow, like no one saw that coming. (funny SouthPark Scientology clip) http://youtube.com/watch?v=urgqYr3ekAg I'm not done chewing on you-know-who, so don't get me started on another over-rated robed person... Guest guest
Om Amriteshwaryai Namaha It is indeed unfortunate that when ruffled people go to any lengths. I think it is a very unworthy thing to do, criticize Big Swami. Especially when what he says makes absolute sense. The very purpose of " Om Namaha Shivaya " or " Om Amriteshwaryai Namaha " is to induce recollection of the holy name and the principles behind it. If that is just mechanical typing of a few letters, we may as well write any sort of non sense with no one the better off. And in what way would he gain by this? It is us who are affected, not him. Secondly using such cheap words simply seems to suggest lack of refinement. Now that the writer has saved time by using those acronyms and spent it instead to master the news doing the rounds, how exactly has he uplifted the suffering? Any sort of alleviation, solace, consolation? We just seem too full of ourselves. Om Namaha Shivaya Save all your chat conversations. Guest guest
Unfortunately some devotees don't understand when Amma-devotees aren't her disciple's devotees. We all have the right to our opinions. But, if Big Swami did indeed send out that email (though I think he was joking about it being a disease) and the chain email with Balaji in it, I've lost any respect I had for him. Throughout history, Mahatmas have taken ordinary souls as their senior disciples. With SOME exceptions, most never amounted to much. That's the Lunar Path of discipleship. Never compare such ones to those who follow the Solar Path of direct experience. I personally am reminded of the mantras when someone uses the abbreviations and I appreciate the brevity. I find it pretentious when someone spells these out. What about other abbreviations like M.A.Center and IAM? tom Puhleeeez = the phonetic spelling out of the word " please " , drawn out sarcastically like an Italian-New Yorker says the phrase: " Oh Please... " . Guest guest
What is all this quibbling about??? Honestly it took me awhile to figure out what ONS meant when I first joined this group. And, perhaps we should pay attention to that. If even swamis and devotees do not understand the codification then who else can benefit? Our attachments are so insidious! This is not an attachment of mine, but it may as well be...in the end they all have the same effect...they tether us to our egos and we still struggle to be free! Guest guest
Aum Amriteshwaryai Namaha, Namaste to Everyone, It is entirely in line with Amma's approach to sometimes point out our shortcomings with humor. This way, the teaching does not become a dogma, but rather a gentle friendly nudge. And if we miss it, Amma will repeat later and perhaps some situation will appear as a learning experience for us. As now ! In any case, it doesn't really matter, for me, who wrote it. These mantras are a favorite of Amma's: Aum Namah Sivaya, Siva, Siva, Siva, Ma, Ma, Ma, Amma, Amma, Amma, Om Santi Santi Santihi, Lokaha Samastha Sukhino Bhavantu, Aum Amriteshwaryai Namaha And they all help me to go from the " ego in the head " to Amma's Love in my Heart. So, I Love to hear them, read them, or write them. Guest guest
Perhaps Swamiji should've included a better explanation to show his jest? I understand the meaning behind his email, but there's a tendency to take Her disciples as Teachers, and to force or manipulate OTHER DEVOTEES to accept them as teachers also. That's cult-behavior (the forcing or manipulating others part). So is the idea that her disciples " aren't perfect " , yet apparently above reproach at the same time. For Big Swami to send out a chain email (the Balaji one) is 110% inappropriate and Amma should take punitive measures to teach him a lesson. The 10% extra is for being a senior disciple whom people will follow as an example. And if he was serious about the abbreviations, he would've done an open letter and asked for feedback instead of playing guru. He's certainly welcome in this Ammachi if he wanted to discuss this. Taking both emails together, neither one sounds like the Big Swami I'd like to think he is, but confirms my suspicions if they are authentic. You don't have to like what I say or write, just read it. If you ignore me or other's who seem to 'bother' you, it's your own mind that's the problem. You want an Amma-world of your own choosing. Because, gee, what if I'm actually right? tom Ammachi , " amarnath " <anatol_zinc wrote: > > It is entirely in line with Amma's approach to sometimes point out our shortcomings with humor. Guest guest
Isn't it obvious she hasn't? Let no one tell another when they're wrong, even if they are, and we'll all run around in our ignorance. O' Happy Day! Surely Amma will correct us, or we'll " just know " when it's Her speaking through another person or a sign in nature. That's New Age. Carry thoughts through to their conclusion and they make more sense. tom Ammachi , Max Dashu <maxdashu wrote: > > >For Big Swami to send out a chain email (the Balaji one) is 110% > >inappropriate and Amma should take punitive measures to teach him a > >lesson. > > How has Amma managed all these years without your input? > > Max >

Guest guest
The whole cry by Tom is Lord cBalaji photo. He is anti Hindu and doesn't like Sanathana Dharma. He always criticizes India and otherwise his criticism and saying Amma should punish Swamiji is totally scandalous and rascal behavior. I don't know what he wants in Amma group. Let me Quote Sri Adi Shankar Acharya who explained the importance of 'Group discussions' in achieving salvation. satsangatve nissngatvam nissangatve nirmohatvam nirmohatve nishchalatattvam nishcalatattve jiivanmuktih satsangatvam ( courtship with good people) is one of the steping stones to ultimate liberation. For Tom Consider yourself as Servant of Servants of God. Consider yourself as Servant of the Swamiji. Stop your stupid and arrogant and cynical behavior. Let me quote Rig Veda " Let noble thoughts to come to you from all sides " . Tom read Vedanta, Bhagavad Gita, read Sri Adi Shankar Acharya's great works- Bhaja Govindam, Brahma Sutrams, Vivekachudamani, Govinda Lahari etc. Focus and faith are important things for any progress in life.
