Bhurja Patra

Sai Ram. It is the bark of the Himayalan birch tree. Here patra does not refer

to leaf but to the use of the bark as paper.

 

A google search brought up quite a few sites from one of which, the following is

reproduced.

 

The birch, especially, has historical significance in Indian culture due to the

extensive use of birch paper (Sanskrit: bhurja patra) as parchment ...
