Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya! I came across the following Newsweek article and wanted to share: By Lisa Miller | NEWSWEEK Published Aug 15, 2009 From the magazine issue dated Aug 31, 2009 America is not a Christian nation. We are, it is true, a nation founded by Christians, and according to a 2008 survey, 76 percent of us continue to identify as Christian (still, that's the lowest percentage in American history). Of course, we are not a Hindu—or Muslim, or Jewish, or Wiccan—nation, either. A million-plus Hindus live in the United States, a fraction of the billion who live on Earth. But recent poll data show that conceptually, at least, we are slowly becoming more like Hindus and less like traditional Christians in the ways we think about God, our selves, each other, and eternity. The Rig Veda, the most ancient Hindu scripture, says this: " Truth is One, but the sages speak of it by many names. " A Hindu believes there are many paths to God. Jesus is one way, the Qur'an is another, yoga practice is a third. None is better than any other; all are equal. The most traditional, conservative Christians have not been taught to think like this. They learn in Sunday school that their religion is true, and others are false. Jesus said, " I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me. " Americans are no longer buying it. According to a 2008 Pew Forum survey, 65 percent of us believe that " many religions can lead to eternal life " —including 37 percent of white evangelicals, the group most likely to believe that salvation is theirs alone. Also, the number of people who seek spiritual truth outside church is growing. Thirty percent of Americans call themselves " spiritual, not religious, " according to a 2009 NEWSWEEK Poll, up from 24 percent in 2005. Stephen Prothero, religion professor at Boston University, has long framed the American propensity for " the divine-deli-cafeteria religion " as " very much in the spirit of Hinduism. You're not picking and choosing from different religions, because they're all the same, " he says. " It isn't about orthodoxy. It's about whatever works. If going to yoga works, great—and if going to Catholic mass works, great. And if going to Catholic mass plus the yoga plus the Buddhist retreat works, that's great, too. " Then there's the question of what happens when you die. Christians traditionally believe that bodies and souls are sacred, that together they comprise the " self, " and that at the end of time they will be reunited in the Resurrection. You need both, in other words, and you need them forever. Hindus believe no such thing. At death, the body burns on a pyre, while the spirit—where identity resides—escapes. In reincarnation, central to Hinduism, selves come back to earth again and again in different bodies. So here is another way in which Americans are becoming more Hindu: 24 percent of Americans say they believe in reincarnation, according to a 2008 Harris poll. So agnostic are we about the ultimate fates of our bodies that we're burning them—like Hindus—after death. More than a third of Americans now choose cremation, according to the Cremation Association of North America, up from 6 percent in 1975. " I do think the more spiritual role of religion tends to deemphasize some of the more starkly literal interpretations of the Resurrection, " agrees Diana Eck, professor of comparative religion at Harvard. So let us all say " om. " Sad Gurunath Maharaj Ki Jay! joanelyia
Guest guest
Dear joanelyia, Namaskar! Yes all religions are equal, but we also have some religions which are more developed in analysis of spiritual experiences, in the sense the concept are more developed or refined and others are more premitive.Having made some attempts at religous studies,I think so. For example,we have ten incarnations, das avatar in which God incarnates as various stages including Ram, krishna, Buddha and Kalki. The concept of only Jesus saving every body, will be modified as time passes. He is, in my view, of the stage of Ram only.Ram's remaining in the cave of Sugriva in the thirteenth year of his banabas is the stage of crucifixion, coming out of the cave is of the stage of resurection and his victory is of the stage of ascension of Jesus. Thus in my view resurrection is the separation of the spirit from the body and ascension is actually dissolution into space or mokshya. The second coming of Jesus in the new Jerusalem is something like the stage of Kalki in the golden age. This is also known as millenium as describd by apostle John.In this he has also mentioned about Gog Megog which in Kalki purana is described as Kok Bikok.they should mean the same. Harimalla, Yours is the type of comment that I was hoping for when I posted. I am woefully ignorant about the correlations between religions, and I was very interested in your comparisons. I would love to hear more comments about how all religions are different and yet the same. I admit to being astonished at your parallels between Jesus and Ram. If anyone else has wisdom to impart on this subject, I'd love to hear it. Thank you for your comments. Om Namah Shivaya! joanelyia

Guest guest
Dear Joanelyia, Namaskar!Thank you for your interest. Yes I will try to impart certain things which I may be knowing in the comprative religious studies. Since we are in the Om namah shivaya forum I would firstly like to compare the obvious symobls of Shiva's body with the symbols of other religions. 1.The trident which Shiva holds on his left hand is equal to the cross of the Christians. 2. The damaru he holds in his right hand is like the star of David of the Jews. 3.The crescent on his head is like the crescent of the Moslems. 4.The ganga he holds on the top of his head, is the ushnisha lotus of the Buddhists, shown on Buddha's head with curled hair and the ushnisa flame at the centre. Now coming to the three stories about Shiva his marriage with Sati devi is Karma yoga. His marriage with Parvati is Bhakti yoga and his marriage with Ganga is Gyan yoga. The story of karma yoga is embraced by Christianity. It is the religion of social service. The sun is their centre. The story of Bhakti yoga is embraced by the Moslems, with their absolute devotion to Allah.Their centre of attention is the lunar orbit. The Kaaba in Mecca is the centre of the lunar orbit, where Adam and Eve are said to have met. The story of Gyan yoga is embraced by the Buddhists.Their centre of attention is the centre of the star system. You may have seen the Tibetan Buddhists with their prayer wheel in hand. When they rotate it, they are trying to look around the star world. Ganga on Shiva's head is the circle of the star world or milky way. The knowledge of the circle of stars is known as gyan yoga. The star world is also known as paradise or Eden in the old testament Bible. The Garden east of Eden is the earth orbit around the sun or our world. The Hindus call this garden as Bharat varsha and all the pilgrimages are set accordingly to represnt the various positions of the earth while it travels around the sun. I have given the basics of the basic knowledge of religious studies. If any doubt please do not hesitate to ask, I will tell what I know.thank you. Guest guest
Dear Gopal Narayan, What you say is also true.Lord Krishna says all paths leads to Him. As long as humans are trying to go to him and not away from him, they are all equal in his eyes, may not be so in our eyes. For example, although hinduism is so elaboarate and liberal,I find they are not as moral as the judeo-christians, in the practical sense. Thus something we have, something else they have. Our philosophy is definitely higher, but in practice we may not be as perfect. It may also depends on the indvidual person rather than the religion itself. One thing I would like to point out is how we are backward in practice. Take our festivals, they are out of sequence with the seasons set by the rishis for over five hundred years. Discussions to set it right has been going for nearly two hundred years now but we have not suceeded to correct them so far. They, the Christians, set it right in a simpler way four hundred years back by pope Gregory by correcting ten days in their calendar. Our system is more complicated due to coordination of the seasonal, solar and the lunar dates, thus we have not been able to settle it even after two hundred years of discussions. But our philosophy still remains uncontested. The ultimate goal of our religion is not to make a simple moral christian, but to evolve into Christ himself,by the by, life after life. Thus also this is a more difficult task. Guest guest
very interesting post Shri Harimalla. Can you kindly explain, how can one evolve into a Christ ?And you talk about Krishna and quote him saying that everything leads to him.Have you studied Gita? If so, in 18 chapters of Gita, can you be kind enoughto tell us which other book talks at length, the way Gita talks and what are all the comparisons with other theologies? Since you havebeen one doing a comaparitive study of religions, it might be easy?cheers--- On Tue, 18/8/09, harimalla <harimalla wrote:harimalla <harimalla Re: So Let Us All Say "OM" Date: Tuesday, 18 August, 2009, 5:17 PM Dear Gopal Narayan, What you say is also true.Lord Krishna says all paths leads to Him. Guest guest
Dear Gopal Naryanji, As a Hindu myself, I am tempted to agree with you. But I remember how Vivekananda spread the tone of liberality by saying all religions are equal. We should also realise as humans how we are weak and not perfect like the rishis or the prophets. If we criticize them they will criticize us.For harmony perhaps and to maintain freindship this is the best attitude to take.To say as friends we are equal there is a better chance of peace and harmony. For example today we are mostly trying to copy the western culture. WE admire the scientific culture which has poured from the west.Inspite of our lofty ideals of adwait, our masses are attracted by their lifestyle. Thus we should gradually try to reach harmony but knowing that truth will prevail, in the end. Jesus did not hate anybody. We should judge him by his own standards.WE need not hate him because he was not a vegeteranian or that he drank wine or recommended castration as was their custome. But the fact that he had the courage to say he was divine is surely like our Adwait. When he says, I and my father are one, is it not like saying Shiboham,I am Shiva or Aham Brhamasmi or I am Brahmah. The Christians also have developed the idea of divine Jesus, of which every body are said to be parts of it. Does not their word Holy Communion not remind you of our Yoga which also means 'joining to'.In my view their 'joing to' or communion is in the sense of karma yoga, i.e. through good work, which in our scriptures is illlustrated by the story of Shiva and Sati. Sati is goodness or since she is the daughter of Dakshya, meaning one's skill, refers to Karma yoga or Yoga through good work. Thus my interpretation of this story is, if we offer the fruit of our good work or skill to God or Shiva, we are getting Sati married to Shiva. This 'marriage' we call as karma 'yoga', and they call it as holy communion. Guest guest
Dear Ramsesh Krishmoorthyji, Namaskar! Did you know that the Hindu religious festivals are being celebrated on the wrong dates as precribed by the rishis. The present festival dates lags one month behind the original seasons specified to them? Perhaps this is the reason why the Hindus are so weak. They succumbed to all invasions and lost strength not having the proper concept of time. You know time is the most powerful and when one loses the concept of time that person or religion is bound to be weak. Hello Ramesh Krishnamoorthy, When I submitted the original article, my intent was not to give reason for harsh words to be submitted to our group. The intent was to open lines of communication between all TOLERANT peoples. I disagree with your above comments. I believe that if someone is so small that they have to criticize another's religion, then that is the time for tolerance on the part of the person whose religion was criticized. In Christianity, that is the parable of " Turning the other cheek. " I feel that you are angry over a perceived situation that exists for you. I hope that you will not take this as a criticism, but a gentle reminder that we are all failable human beings and need to treat one another with kindness and gentleness. Guest guest
Dear Ram mohan anantha Paiji, namaskar! Let me elaborate what others have said.Vivekananda says Christ was a Adwaitin. But is a Hindu who says Aham Bramahasmi same as Jesus Christ? Ram krishna param hamsa has the answer. There is the difference between a normal enlightened person and an Avatar. He compares the Avatar with an ordinary enlightened person and says they are different like the difference between a small boat and a big ship. Both float on water but one carries say a few persons but another carries hundreds and even thousand of persons. How does the Avatar have the capacity to do so? Even when he is enlightened, he continues to take birth by volutarily avoiding mokshya, and collects lots and lots of energy till he is very very powerful and when he shows his avatarhood, he really proves by saving a good proportion of humanity. This voluntary avoiding of mokshya, is done by people practcising Mahayan Budhism who want to be saved only in the end or by our Vaishnavas who like to take birth life after life just to serve the lord and do not want salvation for themselves. This is how I understand. Will the christians accept my explantion? I doubt since they do not believe in rebirth. But I am explaining to a fellow hindu, who I hope, will accept. > > So much for today, thank you. > > Regards, > > Hari Malla > > > > om_namah_shivaya_ group@ s.com, gopal narayan <gopalnarayan123@ ...> wrote: > > > > > > jai gurudev > > > > > > > > > dear harimallaji, > > > > > > > > > u have not read bible, pls read it. > > > > > > > > > www.evilbible. com > > > > > > > > > www.nobeliefs. com > > > > > > > > > www.islam.watch. com > > > > > > > > > > > > u delusion to compare advaith with hate based judeo-christianity/ islam > > > will be shatters immediately. > > > > > > pls desist from comparing our gods with semitic hate mongers. > > > > > > > > > > > > om shakti > > > > > > gopal > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > On 8/19/09, harimalla@ . <harimalla@ ..> wrote: > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > parvasudhar2065 <parvasudhar2065% 40. com>, > > > > " harimalla@ " <harimalla@> wrote: > > > > > > > > Dear Ram mohan anantha Paiji, > > > > Namaskar! Guest guest
Dear Shree Hari Malla,Perhaps you are correct. The Hindus lost their glory because they forgot their great past. The past where the Vedic religion was prevailing. But I have never lost hope in this great religion because our forefather Rishis are more than intelligent. They have made this religion not only fault tolerant, but also with the power to reckon from any sabotage. I say, Sanskrit must be made the National and Official language. This will take off the barrier across the states and people will be more connected. The more connected they are, the more united they will become. Sanatana Dharma, Sanskrit, Renunciation & Spirituality are the essence of this great Country. Guest guest
Dear Gopal Narayanji, Yes we should leave no stone unturned to reclaim it. One of our weakness seems to be our religious calendar which has gone out of sequence with time.It would be a good idea if we can discuss this matter too. If we do not cure a disease in time, it goes on increasing and our religion becomes more and more diseased. Thus let us please take some interest in it and discuss it.Thank you. Guest guest
jai gurudev dear friend, i request u to pls study astrologically and astronomically the festivals. say lord krishna jamna : it must happen only when sun is in leo and moon in taurus,in rohini nakshatra.we cant go by english calander,if we want to celebrate his real birthday. we r folloing moon and sun in their rashis and nakshatras for observing the festivals,so we have to celebrate based on this. solar calander is 365 days, but the lunar calander is 28 days x 12 months,so to compensate for this we have every 4 yrs an ADHIK MAAS - extra month added. so our system is ok. hindu dharma does not condemn anyone to imaginary hell if they dont believe in the calander etc. so we can fllow solar calander for normal life and the hindu calander for festivals. it does not matter. also ours is a sidereal calander,if u study astrology u will understand what i am talking abt. i am doing astronomy and astrology for last 20 yrs +. anyway we must protect dharma by exposing the lies of the hate based dwaitwadis semitic ideology and the peaceful and liberal approach to salvation of sanatan dharma. this is the easiest and most non voilent way to spread truth and win ove rthe others. this is best way to peace and avoiding nuke world war 3. om shakti gopal On 8/20/09, harimalla <harimalla wrote: Dear Gopal Narayanji,Yes we should leave no stone unturned to reclaim it. Guest guest
Dear Gopal narayanji, Namaskar!I am very hapy to learn that you have studied astrology for the last 20 years. I have worked for calendar reform for the last 7 years. In connection with the sideral and tropical issues, I have found that although our system is sidereal, the sidereal system has a limit. The sideral system is limited by the lunar fluctuation zone. Thus our system may be called as lunar tropical or lunar sidereal. We may have sidereal uttarayan only for a maximum period of one month travel of precession of the equinoxes. In our religioun uttaryan and dakhinayan has great value. Thus we have to keep uttaryan or dakhinayan only when the lunar tithi is being touched by them.At present we start our magh snana on poush fullmoon. Poush full moon is the lunar uttarayan. Now a days, since poush purnima does not touch the actual uttaryan, we have to shift the solar uttarayan to dhanu sankranti from makar sankranti. This is, we have to shift both the tithi and sannkranti by one full month. Then only we will be vedic . Since we have not shifted it , our dharnma has been destroyed and our glory has also beeen lost by clelebrating on the wrong date of one month delay. Time is the most important thing perhaps, we may not go to hell but we will not have the strength to face the attacks of other lower developed religions. Thus to be strong again we have to corelate our fesativals with correct time.time is devi whichis our mother.Onlyu the mother can take us to our father.Thank you, sincerely yours, Hari Malla , gopal narayan <gopalnarayan123 wrote: > > jai gurudev > > > dear friend, > > > i request u to pls study astrologically and astronomically > the festivals. > > say lord krishna jamna : it must happen only when sun is in > leo and moon in taurus,in rohini nakshatra.we cant go by english > calander,if we want to celebrate his real birthday. > > we r folloing moon and sun in their rashis and nakshatras for > observing the festivals,so we have to celebrate based on this. > > solar calander is 365 days, but the lunar calander is > 28 days x 12 months,so to compensate for this we > have every 4 yrs an ADHIK MAAS - extra month added. > > so our system is ok. > > hindu dharma does not condemn anyone to imaginary hell > if they dont believe in the calander etc. > > so we can fllow solar calander for normal life > and the hindu calander for festivals. > > it does not matter. > > also ours is a sidereal calander,if u study astrology > u will understand what i am talking abt. > > i am doing astronomy and astrology for last 20 yrs +. > > anyway we must protect dharma by exposing the lies of > the hate based dwaitwadis semitic ideology and the peaceful > and liberal approach to salvation of sanatan dharma. > > this is the easiest and most non voilent way to spread > truth and win ove rthe others. > > this is best way to peace and avoiding nuke world war 3. > > > om shakti > > gopal > > > > > > > > On 8/20/09, harimalla <harimalla wrote: > > > > > > > > Dear Gopal Narayanji, > > Yes we should leave no stone unturned to reclaim it. Guest guest
yes hindus often are seen as weak instead of tolerant (our tolerance has unfortunately been taken as weakness and that is a terrible image that we still allow to pervade) . i agree with these views. also hindus are seen as non violent that is so untrue. dharma should always be upheld and hence if dharma is threatened one must uphold with defense and that means defense of all means. you remember the story related to rakhi. the story of the punjab king and alexander the great don't you. who says that dharma will never be defended by hindus. its about time dharma is once raised high again on the priority list. namaskar, raja gursahani
Guest guest
Dear Shree Hari Malla,While I have no idea about Astronomy or Astrology, anything that will do welfare for India or the Sanatana Dharma should be followed. In that context, in order to spread a new reform, like shifting the calendar for example, we need that to be broadcasted. This broadcasting should be done after proving the facts beyond any doubts (non-believers of astrology can be ignored of course) and should be spread to the masses. In many parts of India, the festivals are celebrated in two different dates, for example, Janmashtami and Deepavali. The Hindus will strictly start observing anything if they feel it makes sense OR if it comes from many a sources. Like the Matts, Acharyas, Spiritual Leaders etc. To quote an example of the above, Saint Shree Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal asked the ladies to refrain from using the silk sarees made of the silk-worms and that had a tremendous impact over the ladies. This is my humble opinion. PranaamRamesh

Guest guest
jai gurudev dear sir, i agree with u that if changes r needed we shud do them. but this has no direct connection with our fighting the semitic arab hindu haters. it is bcoz of stupid politically correct anti hindu people who call themself hindu that the falsehood is spread that " all reliigon preach peace " and such other falsehood. muslims dont want secularism or democracy if they wanetd it it wud have been implimented in saudi arabia by now. the issue is ideology. our ideology is liberal, and their ideology is hate for us as we dont follow to their man who claims to be prophet nor bow to the stone in desert. so i request u not to mix up the issues, but work to expose truth and let world know truth abt hate based judeo-christianity/islam. if u r truly interested to serve truth = dharma, pls send the details and url-www of these sites to all and help spread truth. www.islam-watch.org www.faithfreedom.org www.evilbible.com www.nobeliefs.com www.whydoesgodhateamputees.com www.landoverbaptist.com om shakti gopal On 8/20/09, harimalla <harimalla wrote: Dear Gopal narayanji,Namaskar!I am very hapy to learn that you have studied astrology for the last 20 years. Thus to be strong again we have to corelate our fesativals with correct time.time is devi whichis our mother.Onlyu the mother can take us to our father.Thank you, sincerely yours,Hari Malla , gopal narayan <gopalnarayan123 wrote: >> jai gurudev> > > dear friend,> > > i request u to pls study astrologically and astronomically> the festivals.> > say lord krishna jamna : it must happen only when sun is in > leo and moon in taurus,in rohini nakshatra.we cant go by english> calander,if we want to celebrate his real birthday.> > we r folloing moon and sun in their rashis and nakshatras for> observing the festivals,so we have to celebrate based on this. > > solar calander is 365 days, but the lunar calander is> 28 days x 12 months,so to compensate for this we> have every 4 yrs an ADHIK MAAS - extra month added.> > so our system is ok. > > hindu dharma does not condemn anyone to imaginary hell> if they dont believe in the calander etc.> > so we can fllow solar calander for normal life> and the hindu calander for festivals. > > it does not matter.> > also ours is a sidereal calander,if u study astrology> u will understand what i am talking abt.> > i am doing astronomy and astrology for last 20 yrs +. > > anyway we must protect dharma by exposing the lies of> the hate based dwaitwadis semitic ideology and the peaceful> and liberal approach to salvation of sanatan dharma.> > this is the easiest and most non voilent way to spread > truth and win ove rthe others.> > this is best way to peace and avoiding nuke world war 3.> > > om shakti> > gopal> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > On 8/20/09, harimalla <harimalla wrote:> >> >> >> > Dear Gopal Narayanji, > > Yes we should leave no stone unturned to reclaim it. Guest guest
Dear Raja Gursahaniji, Forthat we need strength. This strength can come with the knowledge of proper time keeping. Thus we need to reform our deformed calendar of festivals for getting the correct knowledge of time. Guest guest
Dear Gopal Narayanji, Namaskar! Yes I do intend to spread the truth. one reason why we are weak is because our festival timings are incorrect by our own standards. Thus let us get it right first. Please visit parvasudhar 2065 forum.I will be sending an invitation separately to you, so we discuss more details and you can also have more details on the issue there.
