Wolf Moon Musings for the new year, Part I

 

The Full Moon of today is known as the Wolf Moon, and marks mid winter. This

Full Moon of the year was a herald and a marker for the Native Americans who

knew that the harsh winter season had peaked. Even if the worst wasn't over, it

was going to get better. How fitting a symbol in context of recent indicators

of the world economy showing a few tender shoots of getting better.

 

It is always a period of introspection of the past and " thing-ish " thought of

what future the year will bring for me... A time when I usually blow off the

dust on the chart I use for the United States and do some mundane astrology.

 

Let's be introspective first about some recent events just to get in the mundane

groove of chart interpretation.

 

So, what's been happening? We all heard about the failed airliner bombing on

Christmas Day where a Nigerian man attempted to set off an explosive device on a

Amsterdam-Detroit flight. The plane fortunately landed safely after the suspect

was overpowered by passengers and crew. Violent transiting Ketu, was exactly

conjunct the bhava madhya of the 12th house of secret enemies and war in Gemini,

both the sign for the US and Nigeria. Interestingly, the sign Gemini is also

symbolic of the Arab Peninsula. The accused bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab,

had co-ordinated the plot with members of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

Umar told US investigators that al-Qaeda operatives in Yemen had supplied him

with the bomb and trained him in how to detonate it. Transiting Mercury, ruler

of communications was exactly conjunct transiting Rahu on the 6th house cusp

that very day clouding the US intelligence that could have prevented it and the

following US Administration blowout about screening and security.

 

The earthquake that struck offshore of Northern California on the morning of

January10th, 2010 left no one hurt, but was sort of a prelude to the January

12th 7.0-magnitude earthquake occurring in Haiti. The severe quake devastated

the nation's capital, Port-au-Prince and would fall under the sudden violence of

Ketu in the 12th house of calamities because the US is such a close neighbor and

would help. I don't have a chart of Haiti to see the indicators there, but on

January 10th and 13, 2010, when the transiting Sun and Venus became conjunct the

stationary nodal axis, events like this would be possible and likely.

 

But, astrology is always easy after the fact, so we'll move more into prediction

now.

 

Rahu's diplomatic moves, manipulations and deceitful influence as it hovers

around the the cusp of the 6th house of health since November of 2009, can be

seen on the health care bill now before the House and Senate. Rahu will keep

things very cloudy through early February when transiting Mercury will conjunct

Rahu again on February 3rd. After that, especially after Rahu moves off station

in the middle of February, the health care bill will gel, but the damage of

Rahu's negative manipulations will have been done. The ruler of the US 6th house

is badly placed in the 8th house of obstructions and as such is to weak to

counter the cheats and bring the badly needed reforms to the American people.

 

Long awaited, Jupiter entered Aquarius on December 20th, 2009, leaving

debilitation in Capricorn. Jupiter passed out of infancy by January 13th and

world economic and market pundits have been more hopeful since then. Jupiter in

humanitarian and idealistic Aquarius should bring more honesty and a sensitivity

to the judiciary, needs of children and banking systems. The United Nations has

designated 2010 the International Year of Youth. Overall, Jupiter in Aquarius is

much better economically speaking.

 

Transiting Ketu after leaving the 12th house cusp will be in orb to contact the

natal Moon in the US chart in early March, but we'll talk about that next

time... Perhaps there will be time to look at the upcoming Jupiter and Saturn

opposition this summer.
