Hello Everyone!

I have a question. Is the Kalika Sahasranama best chanted aloud, or is

it equally effective when just read in mind?

And a request, I'm reading the Kalika sahasranama (i got it on the web)

would someone kindly tell what the phalashruti says (dont know sanskrit).

Goodday!

Namaste

Swami and Maa suggest chanting aloud when beginning a new text. If you have

listened to the Devi Mandir family chanting the Chandi every Sunday morning 9:30

AM Pacific time, on the live web broadcast, you will feel the unified power and

strength of the group chanting aloud together with Maa and Swami.

Even reading alone, aloud, one feels a very different vibration and effect than

when chanting inwards without sound. Swami has explained that there are stages

of chanting, and one advanced step is chanting the words, while moving the lips,

to oneself. More advance, chanting inwards without moving tongue or lips. Most

advanced: the text is memorized and you chant with eyes closed, inside.

If you are using Swami's Kali text, an additional advantage is that you can read

the English and understand the meaning of the mantras as you chant. It adds a

greater dimension to understand what one is chanting. All of Swami's and Maa's

texts are available at the Mandir web site, www.shreemaa.org, or Amazon.com

Hope this answered your question. Enjoy your chanting and experiment. You will

see and feel the difference, then decide for yourself which works best for you.

It is my experience that when chanting a new text, it is best to chant aloud so

that I can hear myself and feel the vibrations. When I have chanted a text for

a long time and am very familiar with it, I do chant silently. Texts I have

memorized, like Shiva puja, I chant silently, sometimes with eyes closed. It is

a rich experience but takes much attention to focus totally on the mantras

without reading a text and/or looking at a Deity on my altar while chanting with

eyes open.
