Guest guest Report post Posted April 3, 2010 Namaste, At the bookstore tonight I came across a set of cards that are illustrations from " In a World of Gods and Goddesses " Illustrated by Indra Sharma. One of the cards depicts " Mohini Murti " which I found very interesting. I did a little online research and I see a lot (naturally) about the Vishnu and Siva stories, texts, folklore, sculpture... etc. But I was wondering if there are any texts that relate Mohini to Durga. Guest guest Report post Posted April 14, 2010 Mohini is a name that simply means " a charming woman " or " a captivating woman, " etc. A woman who is fascinating. Durga is referred to as Mohini, as are other forms of Devi, but this is unrelated to the Mohini form of Vishnu. The Lalitasahasranama and I believe also the Kali sahasranama list Mohini as one of the names of Devi. Mohini also forms a part of longer names, like Visvavimohini. As per " Sri Surga Sapta Shati " -- Lod Vishnu will be in Yoga Nidra - Nothing but Deep Meditation (Balada Krishya Mohaya Maha Maya Prayachati) , He is great devotee of Maha Maya. And As per Explanation Out of all Differant Mayas Only Yoga Maya is under control of Lord Vishu. As per Sacred text -This Maha Maya helped Vishnu in battle with Madhu-Kaitabh. By this Mohini will be on of the avatara of Maha Maya. This is summary of what I have understood. Why do we not simply leave the creative power of the feminine divine resident in a Goddess? I am curious about this.
