That is beautiful indeed!

Her " Ardas " of the crimson series was

highly inspirational for me when I first came across it.

I had not listened to this one until today.

Thank You!

I found the lyrics for " Mender of Hearts " at

http://blog.360./blog-l16yy60ieqhTMgviWNrHwYwVdVE9Fw--?

cq=1 & p=229

Waahay Guroo Waahay Guroo

Waahay Guroo Waahay Jeeo

You are the mender, the mender of of hearts.

You are the sustainer of all.

You are the mender of the wounds of life.

You are the sustainer of all.

In your heart You care for everyone.

Within all hearts, in everyone.

In Your heart You care for everyone.

Within all hearts, within all hearts You're there.

O my mind, meditate forever on the Holy One.

You are the mender of the wounds of life.

You are the sustainer of all.

So remember Him who alone will carry you,

Who alone will carry you to your destination.

Meditate forever on the One.

O my mind, meditate forever on the One.

Mender of Hearts by Singh Kaur. (For Love)

This love song to the Infinite, the mender of hearts, has the ability

to heal the heart and re-awaken your joy and enthusiasm for life.

This is a love song in the purest sense: a love song to the infinite

within each of us and the infinite that unites us all, the one who

is " the mender of all hearts, the mender of the wounds of life...the

sustainer of all. "

Mender of Hearts lyrics: some verses from the " Peace Lagoon "

translation of the Sikh scriptures (Adi Granth, Guru Granth Sahib)

adapted for the Mender of Hearts album: " The Crimson Collection,

Volume 5, " Singh Kaur and Kim Robertson

Sat Nam Sat Prem,

I have the original (cassette) recording of " Mender of Hearts " aka Wahe

Guru Jio, which my husband Amar Singh and I recorded with Singh Kaur in

1985 in St. Louis. I just dug it out and got the lyrics for you. I

don't have the Crimson version, which she recorded with Kim Robertson

on harp, but I believe she changed it to " You are the mender " instead

of " the Lord is the mender. " On the original recording, we played piano

and viola instrumentals. Also on the tape version, Singh Kaur

interwove the shabd " Nam Ki Vadaee Daiee Guru Ram Das Ko " into the

song. The other side of the tape has no English on it, only the mantra

Wahe Guru Jio.

This tape version has not been remastered yet, nor has the Aap Sahee

Hoa/Remember Him tape - both extremely worthy of being preserved. Seva

Singh has been working on remastering these older recordings of Singh

Kaur and has made CDs of Peace Lagoon, Peace Lagoon II and Rakhe

Rakhenhar so far. The REMASTERED CD of Rakhe Rakhenhar was released

recently by Spirit Voyage. This is the only authorized version. The one

being sold by Ancient Healing Ways is NOT authorized and not

remastered, so please buy it only from Spirit Voyage. Seva Singh has

done an incredible job at preserving this priceless music.

Below are the words from the cassette version for Mender of Hearts.

Wahe Guru Wahe Guru Wahe Guru Wahe Jio.

Oh my mind

Meditate forever on the Lord.

The Lord is the mender of the wounds of life.

He is the sustainer of all.

In his heart he cares for everyone.

Within all hearts he’s there in everyone.

In his heart he cares for everyone.

Within all hearts he’s there, within all hearts he’s there.

Oh my mind

Meditate forever on the Lord.

Wahe Guru Wahe Guru Wahe Guru Wahe Jio.

Nam ki vadaee daiee Guru Ram Das ko … (entire shabd)

Oh my mind

Meditate forever on the Lord.

The Lord is the mender of the wounds of life.

He is the sustainer of all.

So remember Him who alone will carry you,

Who alone will carry you to your destination.

Oh my mind

Meditate forever on the Lord.

Wahe Guru Wahe Guru Wahe Guru Wahe Jio.

Humbly yours,

Sahib-Amar Kaur

Sat Nam Sat Prem!

How wonderful to hear from someone that recorded with Singh Kaur!

Thank you so much for sharing with us about this!

I am not familiar, at least not by name, with the shabd " Nam Ki

Vadaee Daiee Guru Ram Das Ko " so I am excited now to go find it and

study it.

My dear compatriot and study partner Gobind Kaur lived in St Louis

and began her Sikh life there as a result of shopping at the Sikh run

health food store in which tapes of Singh Kaur were often (always?)

being played. That may have been before Singh Kaur was recording

commercially. The music really got to her in a profound way (just as

the chanting of Snatam Kaur had brought me to sikhism); and she began

talking to the sikhs in the store. They invited her to visit the

Ashram for a weekend. She went and never left.

I mention this because I thought you may have known her. I think

Gobind Kaur's experiences there began in the late 70s.

Sat Nam, Nam Hari,

I think you got our names mixed up. I was the one that answered Sat

Prem's e-mail. Anyway, my husband Amar Singh & I lived in St. Louis for

six years in the early '80s (1981-1987) and we both played music and

did a lot of recording with Singh Kaur. And for a time, we worked in

the health food store you mentioned, which still survives in St. Louis,

in a different location. Singh Kaur made a number of tapes - in fact

everything back then was tape - apart from her work with Invincible on

the Crimson series. Another one I forgot to mention was " Joyful Vision "

which has some extremely beautiful songs on it. I hope this will also

be reissued as a CD.

Blessings,

Sahib-Amar Kaur

Sat Nam;

Yes Sahib-Amar Kaur I did get your name crossed with Sat Prem - but

only the names.

I spoke with Gobind Kaur about all this Thursday - and had a printout

of what you wrote so I had your name right and she remembers you. She

said you were here around the time of Snatam Kaur's engagement party -

which would have been August 2006. She said you were in Eugene in

relation to your son moving here or away. She saw you and recognized

you but was not able to connect with you at that time.

Gobind Kaur sends a hello and her blessings. She was tickled to hear

news about you; and very happy to hear that you had posted to the

group (even though about Mender of Hearts rather the " I would make

myself a slave " ) - and she was happy to hear all the information

being shared here about these various Guru Ram Das writings and the

Singh Kaur songs made from them. She and I spend one afternoon a week

sharing what has been inspiring and uplifting for us - especially

such inspirations emerging from lines of Gurbani.

I looked up and found the shabad you mentioned that Singh Kaur had

embedded in the middle of " Mender of Hearts. " Appears to be about

when Guru Ram Das first was given the supreme Blessing of the Naam.

Very lovely. I hope to hear it chanted sometime. Only older style

printouts of that shabad were in the main cabinet so I suspect it is

not chanted here on Sundays very often.

Thank you for sharing your information with us!

Sat Nam,

I bet some of the " old-timers " in Eugene will know that shabd. Ask them

to sing it for you. We remember Gobind Kaur from long ago in St. Louis

too so please send her our love. Our son Ram Dass lived in Eugene and

went to the University for a year. He is now touring with Snatam as a

member of her band (clarinet, keyboard and vocals). Their new live

recording just came out on Spirit Voyage.

On the topic of Singh Kaur's music, here's another recommendation -

her last two CDs are not to be missed: Fairy Night Songs and This

Universe, both available from Spirit Voyage or Sequoia Records (located

in Ashland, OR). This Universe has a long version of Aad Guray Nameh

(originally heard on Peace Lagoon). Amar Atma asked me if we had our

own CDs for sale. The answer is no. But we are on some old Khalsa

String Band recordings as well as many of Singh Kaur's non-Crimson

recordings.
