Kundalini yoga and transcendental meditation

Hi. I have practiced transcendental meditation off and on since 1976.

I started practicing kundalini yoga over one year ago. I would like

to know if there is any potential conflict between the two, whether

they can be practiced together, or if it makes no difference.

I am asking because I would like to " change over " to kundali yoga

meditations or kriyas with meditation components and am not sure how

to go about this or whether it is necessary to do so.

Is there a danger in using different mantras? Thanks.

Sat Nam.

Hello Fiona,

I am not an expert, this is my opinion, and my experience:

I have done Kundalini Yoga off and on for 30 years.

During that time I have done various other meditative practices,

Buddhist, for example, altho never Transcendental.

I did my own meditation, I practiced Women's spirituality.

I cannot think of any reason why you cannot do both Kundalini and TM.

Perhaps doing two mantras would be confusing.

I suspect that after doing both for a while, you will probably be

drawn to one or the other.

so - my opinion is - try both and see.

I'm no expert, but can only give you my experience. I've practice TM since

about 1974, and K-Yoga for years along with Hatha, focusing more on K-Yoga

since July this year. I see no conflict -- meditation can be practiced many

way. TM uses a mantra, and K-Yoga generally uses chants and sometimes

breath. I sometimes do a Kriya and sometimes practice TM depending on what

I feel will work best for me at the time -- or what I feel I need more at

the time.

I believe that all meditation is trying to get us to the same place -- a

quiet mind so we can connect with the universal spirit more easily -- or,

rather, since we are always connected with the universal spirit, meditation

can help us be aware of that fact -- and " hear " or " see " the truth.

Namaste,

Pamela

Sat Nam, my wife practiced TM for a few years before finding out about KY. She

simply made the switch, no harm, no foul! BTW She still won't tell me what her

TM mantra was!
