and his extraordinary acumen to hold the Sri matam and its

temples together at a most critical time against

the machinations of the government ill wishers

at the time of HH's long reign as the PeetAdhipathi .

Mukkur Srimat Azhagiyasingar

 

 

Dear Swamin,

 

This is the Thirunakshatra month of our revered Acharya, 44th Srimat

Azhagiyasingar-Srivan Sathakopa Sri Vedanta Desika Yateendra Mahadesikan.

 

I was told that the Poorvika Grama of our 44th HH is not 'Mukkur', but it is

actually 'Kal-pundi'. 44th HH initially had his Kavya-nataka, and samanya

sastra learning under Thillaisthanam swami (there were actually

Thillaisthanam brothers) at Kumbakonam. I was also told that one can easily

distinguish the sisya's of Thillaisthanam swamy. That was the brand on those

days.

 

Subsequently 44th HH did Aradhanam in Sri Mutt at Mannarkudi. For quite ling

time he was referred as Mannarkudi Rajagopalachariar. I also heard that when

the announcement came in the daily that 44th HH has taken over at

Naimisaranyam, it referred as one Mannarkudi Rajagopalachariar. HH had some

landed property at Mukkur through his maternal side. Hence, he came to

Mukkur and settled there.

 

From there on he re-established HH's absolute right over Sri Muth and fought

with the Govt. similar to Swami Desika at Thiruahidrapuram with

Bahya-kutrishtikals (paramada-pour).

 

Two important such instances I shall narrate them separately. May be most of

us may not know them at all. It is very important that they should go on

records. These instances will clearly demonstrate the administrative

abilities of our 44th HH and the power of how Lord Lakshmi Narasimha's

anupravesa.

 

On these occassions my father was totally involved and did all the leg work

and hence I could get the first hand information.

 

This, like the number 44 - Forty Four, is the only one in the number system,

our HH is also very unique in the Sri Mutt hierarchy.
