Rituals: Prasava Punyahavachanam - theetu

Dear Vaasuvadhyaar,

Adiyen has two questions about rituals related to child birth.

Adiyen was blessed with the child on Wednesday who we intend to name

Aprameya.

Q1) How many more names are to be given?

Q2) Is the theetu applicable to the father's brother? and during the theetu

period (10 days?) the brother should not perform perumal Aaradhanam at home?

Not even light a lamp?

Q3) If punyajanam cannot be done on the 11th day after birth (due to

non-availability of priest at short notice), is there any alternative?

Many thanks.

Adiyen

Tirupati Kumara Sridharan.

A 1) Naming on the day of Punyaha vahcanam is not a proper ritual. It is just a

sampradayam. The actual Namakaranam which is the real naming ritual will be done

at the time of Upanayanam. Only one name can be used in Namakaranam. At the time

of punyaha vachanam you can put as many names you wish.

A 2) 10 days theetu is applicable for all your chithappa, periyappa, and married

sons of them. The perumal sannidhi should be closed (with a curtain) for all

those theetu days.

A 3) The theetu will be automatically cleared on the 11th day for all the

persons, but the punyaham is required for the sudhdhi of materials which are

used in the Perumal Aaradhanam (which are all can not be undergone for snaanam).

So, you can lit the lamp from 11th day onwards. The punyaha vachanam can be

performed on any Odd day after that.
