Dear VAsu VAdhyAr,

Namaskarams! Due to unavoidable circumstances it has not been possible

to perform the last three mAsiyams for adiyen's father, who attained

Acharyan Thiruvadigal in Aug 2006. The previous Oonams and mAsyams

have been performed. The next mAsiyam is occuring on Jan 9th and there

is no way this one can be performed - the pratham karthA will not be

in station. Following this, the shanmAsika Oonam is occuring in

February. Adiyen is told that it is possible to perform the 4 (four)

missed mAsiyams along with the Oonam. Adiyen would like to have some

clarifications from Swamin regarding this. Should the combined

mAsiyams be performed on the day of the Oonam or before, the previous

day? How is this done? what are the general rules to perform missed

mAsiyams? How many can be combined and when should they be performed

at the latest?

Many thanks.

Adiyen,

Tirupati Kumara Sridharan

***

1. oonams and masyam(s) can not be combined.

2. There are four oonams only

a) Aadhya Oonam should be performed (including the day of death) between 28 & 30

days.

b) Thraipakshika Oonam should be done between 41 & 45 days.

c) Oona Shaan masikam should be done between 171 & 180 days.

d) Oona aapthikam should be done between 341 & 355 days.

All oonams should be performed before the masikam if it occurs in the given

duration.

All masikams should be performed on the thithi in which a person demised. The

thithi will be mentioned in panchangams as " Chradha thithi " . Chrdhdha thithi may

differ from the one listed in the details, because for chradhams, the day in

which the amont of thithi in the " Kudhapa Kaalam " is determined as Chradhdha

thithi.

Any number of masyams can be combined but it is not good for custom.
