NKT Higher secondary school was abuzz with activity on a Sunday. Why?

Srimaan Trust 's months long campaign of propagating the spirit of srImadrAmAyaNa reached its eventful pinnacle on 2nd

September 2007 . The finals of srIrAmAyaNa contest were held in presence of eminent judges just around afternoon . It was a treat to the auditory impulses as children with great devotion and commitment recited several sweet verses from the Adi kAvyam .

The function of prize distribution and commemorative display was scheduled at 4 p.m. that very day . While Sri Bhattar swami was meticulously making arrangements , SrImath paramahamsEthyAthi Sri U.Ve. Appan Parakala Ramanuja Embar Jeeyar swami graced the venue . Lead by Bhattar swami, the organizers accorded a very warm welcome to the jeeyar swami . Isn't it the most fitting for an event based on " rAghava simham " to be blessed by the srIvaishnava simham (jeeyar)?!! Sri U.Ve. VV Ramanujam swami and Sri U.Ve K.B. Devarajan swami also graced the occasion. A large crowd had gathered to witness the occasion . The crowd took advantage of the early arrival of Sri Jeeyar swami by getting swami's blessings. Sri U.Ve . PrathivAdi Bhayankaram Sampath Kumar svami welcomed the Jeeyar swami and mahavidvans and as well the audience .

The function started with prayer song . Illustrious students from Srimaan Bhattar KuzhAm characterized the cultural events with a touch of professionalism driving an aura of rAmabhakthi around the arena . A vibrant debate on the four mahapurushas of Sri Ramayana – srI Rama , lakshmana , Bharatha and shatrugNa took place. The points entailed by the participants for each of the four sons of Dasaratha drew awe and appreciation from all sections of audience. Many wonderful events followed like Harikatha and Non-stop RamayaNa , making the very appreciative crowd burst into parades of applause whenever the SBK students struck a note of excellency in the wisdom of their topics.

Sri U.Ve . Parashara Badri NarAyaNa Bhattar swami then delivered the founder's address . Bhattar swami as ever was very fluent and authoritative on the priciples of his mission . Swami clearly explained to the imaginative audience the goals, objectives and activities of Srimaan Trust. Using many simple examples and illustrations , swami brought out the current situation of the world, the prevalence of EmberumAnAr darisanam, the problems and driving solutions . The crowd was very much impressed and moved by the speech of bhattar swami; who kept reiterating out of all humility that all this kainkaryam was done through his volunteers .

 

The prize distribution commenced soon after swami's address. It was a treat to the eye to see hundreds of children lining up to receive awards. Just awards?? Prizes and mostly importantly, the grace of the Jeeyar swami and the other vidvAns. Students were awarded trophies, books on sampradayam, CDs and certificates.

 

Subsequently , the guest of honour Sri Embar Jeeyar swami with rapturous quotations from Divya prabhandams, Upadesaratna malai, Acharya hrudayam and thirukkural blessed the audience with a soul capturing address. The address though short over flowed with enlightenment. Sri U.ve VV Ramanujan svami delivered his blessings in the form of a talk on " siraiyirunthavaL yERRam " . SriUVe KB Devarajan swami talked about the changing customs and the need to protect our srivaishnava culture especially aahaara niyamam.

This was followed by a very wonderful demonstration by SBK students on " the event of parAnkusan and parakAlan meeting " . The audience was full of admiration of this event . The function concluded with a talk by volunteers on the need and requirements of Srimaan Trust . The convener of the trust at Chennai proposed the vote of thanks. By the grace of AzhvAr EmberumAnAr and Jeeyar and the maha purushas who graced the occasion the entire function was a roaring success.

Taking some cues from the event based on SrimadramayaNa, we, motivated by the great service of lakshmana , bharata or shatruGna, should atleast try to do the kainkaryam of the squirrel . We are still budding at this stage and small drops can make an ocean. With your support and the grace of the acharyas who blessed varthadAm abhivarthadAm , the objectives of Srimaan Trust will soon attain perfection.
