Chapter12- The creations of Brahma

Brahma first created the negative impulses like self-deception, the sense of death, anger after frustration, the sense of false ownership, and the illusory bodily conception, or forgetfulness of one's real identity and he got dissatisfied with his creations and meditated on the Lord. This implies the absence of knowledge at the outset and hence the creations were the effects of ajnana, nescience. Meditating on the Lord he acquired jnana and created Sanaka, Sanathana, Sanathkumara and Sanaathana. There is srshti in each kalpa of Sankaadhi. Brahma then told them to produce off-springs but born out of jnana they were intent on acquiring Athmajnana only and went away to do thapas. Brahma was angered at their disobedience and out of his anger Rudra was created from the middle of the eyebrows of Brahma. He was neelalohitha, a mixture of red and blue. He was the first of the deitires and acquired the name rudra because he cried not knowing his place and name (rodhanaath rudrah). Brahm assigned to Him eleven places, namely, hrth, heart, indhriyani, senses, asu, vital air, vyoma, sky, vaayu, wind, agni, fire, jalam, water, mahee, earth, soorya, Sun, chandhra , moon, and thapa, austerity.. He was given eleven names in the eleven places, namely, Manyu, Manu, Mahinasa, Mahan, ´Siva, RÌ£tadhvaja, Ugrareta, Bhava, Kala, Vamadeva and DhrÌ£tavrata and thus the eleven rudras came into being who were given eleven consorts as well , Dhi, DhrÌ£ti, Rasala, Uma, Niyut, Sarpi, Ila, Ambika, Iravati, Svadha and DiksÌ£Ä.

The principal rudra started creating off-springs as fierce looking as himself and seeing this Brahma told him to stop creation and go and do thapas. Then Braham created ten sons from his body and mind to carry on the reproduction of beings. They were. Marici, Atri, A´ngira, Pulastya, Pulaha, Kratu, BhrÌ£gu, VasisÌ£tÌ£ha, DaksÌ£a, and Narada.

Simadbhagvatham tells us also about the creation of vak, by Brhama who took a feminine form commonly known later as Sarasvati . with whom Brahma fell in love but his sons turned him away from his desire as she was his daughter. This tradition is prevalent in the North where they hold Sarasvati as the daughter of Brahma and not the consort as generally believed in mythology.

When Brahma was contemplating creation the four Vedas were born from his four faces and then the vedangas and as the fifth , purnas and ithihasa came into being. Thus all the sasthras and varnasrama dharmas were established.

Then the body of Brahma was divided into two parts and a male and female , Svaayambhuva Manu and Satharoopa were created from the two parts and they two married and produced off-springs from whom the whole creation of humans for that kalpa came into being.

Satharoopa gave birth to two sons and three daughters. The sons were Priyavratha and Utthanapadha and the daughters were Aahoothi, Dhevahoothi and Prasoothi. Dhruva was the son of Utthanapadha and from the vamsA OF Priyamvratha came the illustiour rshbha deva and Bharatha after whom the Bharathavarsha was named. Ahoothi was given in matrriage to Ruchi, Devahoothi to Kardama and Prasoothi to Daksha.
