Barack Obama or John McCain: last thoughts

Thank you, dear Brian...

Although there may be some question about the birth certificates of both

candidates, I have been using them with good results.

I think it is quite possible that the certificates are authentic, which

makes reading the charts quite easy using Systems' Approach.

Best wishes to you, as always, my dear friend...

Nice interpretation, David. It is interesting how often the most simple

elements in the horoscope give rise to what is really going on.

Give us a break. How can you congratulate David on a successful

prediction when it was made many hours into the election on the very

day. Exit polls had already been posted as well as the many polls for

weeks showing Obama leading the popular vote as well as the important

electoral college states. My own 7 year old successfully predicted the

outcome of the election as well on those terms alone. Should I then

consider that a " astrological prediction " too? Anyway, there is a

50/50 chance of making the right " prediction " by that point.

Now, if David had made this prediction 2 months ago I would consider

that a legitimate prediction, but don't say almost halfway into an

second by second news media frenzy who the winner is and consider that

a fulfilled prediction.

All the Best,

Draupadi

Hello Draupadi,

It is possible the prediction was made earlier but shared on SAMVA only

recently.

In any event, the focus is now on drawing lessons from the outcome, including

rectifying the chart for Obama.

One additional point on list interaction, with my hat on as list moderator.

While new members are invited and encouraged to post they are asked to please do

so in a spirit of respect and consideration for the scholarly and helpful

contributions of others.

Best wishes,

Hello dear Mr. Peter,

Well this is a long period for seeing whether the prediction is right or wrong. But the figure of 30000 is too distant a vision. As per SAMVA USA chart, which I and most of the members of the group believe, the period of Saturn sub period would run in the main period of Venus after the current sub period of Jupiter is over. Saturn is lord of the eighth house and Venus is placed in the sixth house. The duration of this sub period is 38 months.

Best wishes.

tyring to devil's advocate here - is it possible that Obama's chart

is accurate but McCain's chart is not? Can that explain why McCain

lost (and not necessarily why Obama won?).

lord of the eighth house and Venus is placed in the sixth house. The

Dear Draupadi:

Your point is well taken...and indeed, if it was the first time I had

predicted this, it would have come at a late hour.

However, that was not my first attempt; but rather, it was a reinforcement

of earlier predictions.

For example, this is what I wrote in my weekly column on October 22nd:

”Note: Assuming the birth certificates are accurate, Senators Barack Obama

and John McCain are Capricorn and Aquarius rising signs, respectively. Both

have transit afflictions in their charts between now and on the day of the

election, so expect the unexpected. The sub period rulers, however, seem to

give the edge to Senator Obama. "

The problem all along has been with trying to obtain the proper birth times.

Several sets of birth times have been offered throughout this campaign by

both candidates and different newsgroups, so this has made the task more

difficult than in cases where the birth time is verified and easily

available.

Either way, welcome to the SAMVA newsgroup and I hope you will join us with

the study of Systems' Approach and its application in Vedic astrology.

Best wishes,

David Hawthorne

Re: Barack Obama or John McCain: last thoughts

Draupadi

Obama has won the election because Saturn was asking for a change. McCain would not be a change since he was going to carry Bush Policies and Republican Policies of giving tax cut to rich people. --- On Thu, 11/6/08, cosmologer <cosmologer wrote:

Hello Peter,

The increasingly difficult economic situation became an advantage for the candidacy of the opposition party. In as much as the policies of the prior administration were the cause of the difficulties, changing them will avoid such problems in the future. At the same time, it is possible the new policies will not leade to the same kind of situation of rapid credit growth and rising asset values. As such, they may take longer to generate a moderate and more sustainable growth of incomes. The coming Venus-Saturn sub period in the SAMVA USA chart (Perpetual Union) suggests there will be no quick resolution to the difficulties in the coming three years.

Best wishes,

Thor

Hello Peter,

In a message on SAMVA on November 6, 2008, made the following statement:

"As per SAMVA USA chart, which I and most of the members of the group believe, the period of Saturn sub period would run in the main period of Venus after the current sub period of Jupiter is over. Saturn is lord of the eighth house and Venus is placed in the sixth house. The duration of this sub period is 38 months."

Best wishes,

Thor

Dear list members,

To better understand the Saturn sub-period in the SAMVA USA chart, I share with you a list of these periods in US history.

Major Minor Period Period

period period begins ends

Moon Saturn 19.7.1786 17.2.1788

Mars Saturn 9.9.1794 18.10.1795

Rahu Saturn 26.5.1804 1.4.1807

Jupiter Saturn 7.6.1819 19.12.1821

Saturn Saturn 19.4.1833 22.4.1836

Mercury Saturn 10.8.1866 19.4.1869

Ketu Saturn 14.3.1874 23.4.1875

Venus Saturn 17.2.1889 19.12.1892

Moon Saturn 19.7.1906 17.2.1908

Mars Saturn 9.9.1914 18.10.1915

Rahu Saturn 26.5.1924 1.4.1927

Jupiter Saturn 7.6.1939 19.12.1941

Saturn Saturn 19.4.1953 22.4.1956

Mercury Saturn 10.8.1986 19.4.1989

Ketu Saturn 14.3.1994 23.4.1995

Venus Saturn 17.2.2009 19.12.2012

Only once before have we had the Venus-Saturn period, from 1889-1892. In the SAMVA USA chart, the Venus-Saturn period has the following placements

VENUS is 4th lord of fixed assets, natural resources, communal harmony and conveyances. It is a general indicator of women's issues, luxuries and knowledge. Its indications become important during its operation. Venus is placed in the 6th house and its indications can become involved in conflict, controversy, disturbances, health problems and judicial matters. As KETU afflicts the 4th house, there can be sudden disturbances to the indications of the 4th house, including such things as setbacks in race relations. As RAHU aspects the 6th house, there can be sudden crisis involving 6th house matters.

SATURN is 8th lord of easy gains, beliefs of the masses, obstacles and endings. It is a general indicator of working people, mining, structures and steel. It is placed in the 5th house of creativity, university education, speculative tendencies and communal harmony. As Saturn aspects the SUN as 2nd lord of wealth, it can bring sudden easy gains of wealth. As 8th lord SATURN can also bring setbacks for the indications of the Sun.

During the Venus-Saturn period

- Easy gains: Six states were admitted to the Union. In 1889, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana and Washington and in 1890, Idaho and Wyoming. Oklahoma Territory was organized in 1890.

- Labor issues: the American Federation of Labour (AFL) was founded by S Gompers in 1890, to strengthen the bargaining position of working peoples. The Sherman Antitrust Act was passed in 1890, to stop abusive anti-competitive practices of the "Robber Barons". Strike at Carnegie Steel results in ten deaths in 1892.

- Womens issues: National American Woman Suffrage Association founded in 1890.

- Native peoples issues: Ghost Dance in 1889 [1], Apache chief Geronimo surrenders in 1898, Massacre at Wounded Knee, SD in 1890 and Cherokee Outlet in Indian Territory opened to settlement in 1892.

Best wishes,

Thor

A one-term president

1889 – 1893: Benjamin Harrison, Republican from Ohio, served as President of the USA

Benjamin Harrison, a Republican, was elected to the presidency in 1888, defeating the Democrat Grover Cleveland. He was the first, and to date only, president from the state of Indiana. His presidential administration is best known for its economic legislation, including the McKinley Tariff and the Sherman Antitrust Act, and for annual federal spending that reached one billion dollars for the first time. Democrats attacked the "Billion Dollar Congress", and used the issue to defeat the Republican Party, both in the 1890 mid-term elections and in Harrison's bid for reelection in 1892.

It is interesting that in transit, Saturn is running through Virgo, a bit later than in the present Venus-Saturn period and Jupiter is running through Capricorn. It was when a stationary Saturn hit the MEP of the 3rd house that the railroads came under severe strain and a panic broke out. A different set of transits resulted in the big banking bust up of 2008.

Economy: Panic of 1893

The 1880s had seen a period of remarkable economic expansion in the United States. In time, the expansion became driven by speculation, much like the "tech bubble" of the late 1990s, except that the preferred industry was railroads. Railroads were vastly over-built, and many companies tried to take over many others, seriously endangering their own stability to do so. In addition, many mines were opened (frequently with rail connections), and their products, especially silver, began to flood the market. One of the first signs of trouble was the bankruptcy of the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad, which had greatly over-extended itself, on February 23, 1893.

Footnotes

[1] "Noted in historical accounts as the Ghost Dance of 1890, the Ghost Dance was a religious movement incorporated into numerous Native American belief systems. The traditional ritual used in the Ghost Dance, the circle dance, has been used by many Native Americans since prehistoric times, but was first performed in accordance with Jack Wilson's teachings among the Nevada Paiute in 1889. The practice swept throughout much of the American West, quickly reaching areas of California and Oklahoma. As the Ghost Dance spread from its original source, Native American tribes synthesized selective aspects of the ritual with their own beliefs, often creating change in both the society that integrated it and the ritual itself. At the core of the movement was the prophet of

peace Jack Wilson, known as Wovoka among the Paiute, who prophesied a peaceful end to white American expansion while preaching messages of clean living, an honest life, and cross-cultural cooperation. Perhaps the best known facet of the Ghost Dance movement is the role it reportedly played in instigating the Wounded Knee massacre in 1890, which resulted in the deaths of at least 153 Lakota Sioux. The Sioux variation on the Ghost Dance tended towards millenarianism, an innovation which distinguished the Sioux interpretation from Jack Wilson's original teachings."

Thor

In 1889, North Dakota , South Dakota , Montana and Washington and in 1890, Idaho and Wyoming.

- Native peoples issues: Ghost Dance in 1889 [1], Apache chief Geronimo surrenders in 1898, Massacre at Wounded Knee , SD in 1890 and Cherokee Outlet in Indian Territory opened to settlement in 1892.

Best wishes,

It is interesting that in transit, Saturn is running through Virgo, a bit later than in the present Venus-Saturn period and Jupiter is running through Capricorn. It was when a stationary Saturn hit the MEP of the 3rd house that the railroads came under severe strain and a panic broke out. A different set of transits resulted in the big banking bust up of 2008.

Economy: Panic of 1893

The 1880s had seen a period of remarkable economic expansion in the United States .

The practice swept throughout much of the American West, quickly reaching areas of California and Oklahoma . As the Ghost Dance spread from its original source, Native American tribes synthesized selective aspects of the ritual with their own beliefs, often creating change in both the society that integrated it and the ritual itself. At the core of the movement was the prophet of peace Jack Wilson, known as Wovoka among the Paiute, who prophesied a peaceful end to white American

expansion while preaching messages of clean living, an honest life, and cross-cultural cooperation.

Thor
