Please remember, that Rahu and Ketu are chaya-grahas, i.e. having no physical

body, so

their calculation does not necessarily rely upon actual astronomical movements

of heavenly

bodies. Usually thet are identified as the north and sout nodes of the Moon,

i.e. taken as

positioned on the intersection of the tracks followed by the Moon and the Sun as

viewed

from the Earth. This same position is taken in western astrology, and they call

it true

nodes. Many ephemeris tables will give it. But we may see that true nodes will

turn direct

from time to time, although they basically go into the retrograde direcion. But

Maharishi

Parashara is defining the nodes as being always retrograde. So for the actual

position of

the nodes we take that they move always beckwards with a constant angular speed.

This is

called mean nodes and this is suggested for use in chart reading, as the mean

nodes will

actually be always retrograde and thus will be able to act as karmic control

planets. Most

Jyotish programs have the option of choosing from the two methods of

calculation.

Dear Samir & Gauranga

aS PER THE SHASTRA, THE NODES ARE POLES APART IN NATURE, CHARACTER AND GOALS

AND ARE ALWAYS RETROGRADE. this last is possible for what is popularly

called mean nodes. " Mean' in every sence!!
