Guest guest
Dear Swamy, Indeed there are different applications, as too, there are differing opinions amongst the sages regarding whether or not to use the ascendant ashtakavarga. There are also four discrepancies between HoraSara and Parasara Hora relating to Moon's Moon, Moon's Mars, Moon's Jupiter, and Venus' Mars. As Braha says: It's difficult to know whether the discrepancies are due to different opinions between the sages, typographical errors, or errors in the actual translations... I can only repeat however that Ashtakavrga, as a separate technique, is my opinion only, and not intended to challenge anyone else's. Believe me, I don't mean to ruffle any feathers, just offering my opinion... Perhaps my point could be best made by using another analogy: Within the medical profession, legal profession, as well as most scientific fraternities; there are specific areas of expertise (or specialties) - which we also find in jyotish. One may wish to specialise in one particular area in order to gain proficiency...as, for instance, Krushna's guru who specialised exclusively in the study of ashtakavarga. Such focused study of a given technique is necessary, in my opinion, to gain a thorough understanding. Even BV Raman in his book " Ashtakavarga System of Prediction " admitted that his understanding of this system was limited and he avoided the controversial issues such as whether the ashtakavarga of Rahu and Lagna are to be considered, or whether the ashtakavarga should be reckoned on the basis of Rasis or Bhavas (in BPHS some reference is made to the reckoning if a Rasi extends to two Bhavas) etc, etc.. Of course we know that BPHS is a compilation of many different techniques. The clear rules favoured by Parashara's vimsottari system are found side by side with Jaimini techniques, ashtakavarga and so forth. I don't advocate one being superior to the other...rather it is Parashara's opinion that vimsottari is supreme in this age of KaliYuga.
