My apologies for not providing complete information. Here is what you need to do to read this sample document. You need to go to www.baraha.com and download the free software. This will also download the fonts (including Hindi fonts) that I used for creating the sample document. Once this is done, then you can click on the Word document sent by me (lk39_pages_1_2.rtf) and you will be able to see the transliterated pages. Mr. Dheendsa very kindly experimented with this test tonight and it took him less than two minutes to download Baraha, complete the install and see the document in Hindi. You can compare the Hindi and English transliterations and figure out most of the transliteration rules. Please let me know if you need additional help with this. Guest guest
Pankaj Jee, I have included the Hindi file in the Files section in the Group home. As far as your suggestion of containing my own comments etc. are concerned, I dare not pollute the sanctity of the original text of LalKitab. The task at hand is transliteration, as purely as possible to the best of my abilities. Each transliterated line should correspond to the line in the original text; each page contain should contain the same number of lines as are in the original text - that is my desire and attempt. Also, I refer to the planet Venus as shukkar - this is how it is in LalKitab - in Hindi transliteration rather than shukra (as it should be written in pure Hindi.) Just as in the original text, the planet Saturn has been written as Saneechar rather than Shanishchar; I am trying to be as faithful to the original phonetics and spellings as possible. Similarly, I have tried to be faithful to Urdu by writing the word qudarat rather than kudarat and qismat versus kismat. (Incidentally, Baraha font requires 'q' sound - the 'ka' with a dot underneath - as 'kx' as you may have noticed in the "Roman English" transliteration.) Along the way, I know that I will make mistakes and I also know that the purist Shri YogRaj jee will not let me rest till each mistake is corrected and rectified. I invite all my Urdu-Hindi knowing friends to correct me; after all, my Urdu is all self-taught from a 50 paise wala "Teach yourself Urdu from Hindi" qAydA. Commenting on the text and giving my own amplifications is a separate, far more, challenging task which is to be tackled some other day. But I hope this group will have many of those amplifications, footnotes and detailed discussions as we go down the line. Thanks for your hauslaa-afzaaee, though.
