Dear Deendayalan ji,

[ 1 ] Propitiating sun and mars is not going to change their

enemosity towards Rahu , its going to be there and therefore the

hostile drishti too.

[ 2 ] Selecting the upaya is simple, I will provide Rahu the

protection of Jupiter which is a friend of sun and mars and is

neutral to Rahu. Thus sun and mars can not do any harm to a planet

already under the protection { sharan mein } of their friend.

[ 3 ] No the upaya will not reduce the effects of Rahu.

sincerely,

upadhyay

Gentlemen,

Please permit me to comment on this topic. Unfortunately, I 've been unable to participate in any of the LalKitab forum discussions, lately. But a thought provoking discussion has been initiated by the two of you and I wish to express my take on the issue.

Principles of aspects, as given in LalKitab are well and good but the detailed effects of the aspects are generally not specified and thus we continue to run in circles. After years of frustration, I started looking for answers in the LalKitab itself. And, I have not been disappointed (most of the times.) Here is my personal take - I don't know how flawed my approach is, but I am deriving everything out of the original LalKitabs by Pt Roop Chand Jee.SUN+MARS in general, yield good results provided Mercury, Rahu and Ketu are NOT malefic in the horoscope. At least in the initial years of one's life (up to the age of 22, if I am not mistaken), the two will provide good results. So, we have to know what the native's current age is and based on that, we will get a hint regarding the nature of the two working together (and thus of Rahu also.) If these two are malefic, the native is likely to get destroyed regardless - may die in the battlefield etc. (Second house).

Now take a look at Rahu. In the sixth, it is very likely to give good results - "phansee kaatnay wala haathi" But if it posited in an evil way; for example, if any one of the three conditions are met:1. Mars in 12th 2. Mercury in 12 ALONG WITH Sun in 2nd 3. Mercury or Ketu debilitated Then it is likely to not only give bad results but is also likey to mess up Sun+Mars (regardless of which house the combine is in.)Even though Rahu is all powerful and benefic in the sixth, yet the native's environmental factors can botch it up. For example, if he has inimical relations with his brothers, he is likely to get destroyed; no amount of help from other planets, however strong or benefic, will do the native any good. Similarly, if he has been losing money or having undiagnosable diseases, provides a hint that Rahu in the sixth is in malefic condition. The only remedial measure specified is that one keeps a piece of black glass or lead

with him/her. For Sun in the 2nd (in relation to Rahu in the 6th), a remedial measure for Sun itself will help (although in some cases, you may need to perform Saturn's measures - depends on the circumstances - Please see LalKitab 1952. Introductory text on Sun.) Again, I wish we had some examples or explanatory text in the LalKitab itself about how to interpret aspects but a thorough study of the original classic may point one in the right direction. I invite your comments.Respectfully,Rajinder Bhatia
