Let us look at one of the oldest and authentic references regarding matching of horoscopes. The following quote from "Sasanka Saradeeya" tells us why and how two charts should be matched - Nissantane Sasunum, Niravadhi karunam nirdaye, nisvatadye Nistulyam vittanadham, Saruja aruji cha, Kshmajusham jatakeshu, Vidya vridham cha vidya rahita, iti mritistana dosham, 'samanalokya' - (A)nishta khetan muhurapi manasa yojayet budhisali. (from Sasanka Saradeeyam) Meaning, while matching the horscope, one should try to match - * The chart that indicate lack of children with the chart that indicates the possibility of children. * The chart that indicates kindlessness with the chart that indicates kindness and compaction * The chart that indicates lack of wealth with the chart that indicates wealth and prosperity * The chart that indicates trouble some periods due to diseases with the chart that indicates health during that period. * The chart the indicates knowledgeable with the chart that indicates very less amount of knowledge. * SIMILARLY the conditions regarding longevity or widowhood should also be checked considering the malefic planets. After evaluating the chart fully in this way, proper couples should be selected and suggested by the astrologer. This is the meaning and message of the above sloka. Here the points that should be noted and the lessons we should understand are - * The acharyas are trying to balance the demerits found in the charts in such a ways that an average and BALANCED life should possible to the couple. * The complementary nature of the charts are given maximum importance. * The word 'SIMILARLY' used in this and many other quotes is the culprit which caused much confusion. The advice of the acharyas is that - if the chart of the husband indicate untimely death of the wife, then we should select an woman’s chart that shows good longevity and prosperous life with the husband; if the chart of the wife shows that her husband will not leave long, then we should select a mans chart which indicates good longevity and prosperous life with the wife. It is the mis-interpretation of the word "samanalokya" or "Tat samye" related to the discussion of Papa samya that should be objected and discarded. It is just a case of applying common sense. I agree with you about the fact that logical summersalt alone will not help us in identifying how the actual results will manifest - we need to check in and validate with real horoscope to ensure - whether the selection of "both husband and wife having Mars in 8th"; "both having a malefic in 7th" etc manifested in support of the arguments - * 'Samya' means similar malefic in similar houses * 'Samya' means planetary position that cures the malefic effects. For example as per the second school of thought, if one of the horoscope indicate Vaidhvya the other horoscope should indicate Deerkha mangalya yoga. Where as, as per the first school, if one of the horoscope indicate Vaidhavya the other horoscope should also indicate Vaidhavya - because both the results cannot manifest at the same time and one of them will get cancelled. We need to check and ensure - which of these schools of thought is correct, in real experience. I request the group members to present the charts that would help us to verify the same.
